Bozzah
hey guys I need some little advice from you techies out there... The last time I've built my own rig was about 7 years ago Since then, I didn't really pay attention to the new components, so I'm not really up to date. Actually, I'm quite a noob at this again.... Some months ago, I busted my mainboard and I need a new one, but there are so many of them, I cannot really decice which one... .. And I want to play some GTA IV with mods again, but I need my PC back for that reason I know that my mainboard is busted because the CPU overheated and some of the plastic in the socket was molten. also, there are no beep sounds when I turn the pc on... I will get a test cpu today from a friend, but I highly doubt that it will work since the socket seems broken to me. some info: my last motherboard was an Intel p 35p I need a 775 socket for my intel q6600 and mc gpu was an ATI radeon hd 6670 and this RAM : pvs24g6400llk the only good offer I could find is an MSi 975x platinup powerup with a scythe ninja plus cooler on it for 40 bucks (used) ....sadly, that thing is only for 64 bit systems and it wouldn't make any sense to do that with my current components. I want to spend a minimal amount of money since I'm super short on it right now. Can anyone help me here? Flachbau
As for your issue stated in the OP - 775 sockets are dead and they aren't being produced anymore. Your best bet is doing some research on the best 775 socket mobo's and purchasing one off of eBay or Amazon.. your other choice is just simply upgrading to newer tech. I was in your position before. I own a 775 desktop with a E6300 CPU. Bozzah
GG14876
Wow, that is an old chip... Sorry, I had to look it up just to find some info on it and 2007... It doesn't seem that long ago, but it has been ~7 years... If you are looking into upgrading to a new computer, I suggest this site: https://pcpartpicker.com/ They allow you to pick from a wide range of parts and they do (most) compatibility filtering and give you a general idea of price, availability (where to buy from) and energy usage. They even have some "build guides" with set price limits. Just a few bits of info on the recent computer "updates" (I was in your position about a month ago...) nVidia came out with (about a month ago) a pair of new graphics cards, GTX 970 & 980, which seem to be on the "higher end" of graphics cards. GTX 970 is somewhere around 350 USD, the GTX 980 is around 580 USD. Of course, that's for the base models; some makers are offering higher end versions at a higher cost.It is sort of expected that AMD will release some new cards in the coming months to "fight back", at which point these cards will probably drop in price or see some upgrade come out (I keep hearing about a GTX 980 Ti...) Intel has released some new chips as part of their "Haswell Refresh". Most are using the LGA 1150 socket, which seems to be the "current" Intel standard for desktops. I'm not going to get into the new "X99"/LGA 2011-3 chips as that's probably a bit too much to go over in there.Intel is "scheduled" to roll out their new "Broadwell" chips sometime early in 2015 (though some are already out...). It has been reported that some of them should use the same LGA 1150 socket as current Motherboards... There are now "All In One" water cooler systems for CPUs. Water cooled chips are no longer only available to those experienced (or foolhardy) enough to work out custom water cooling systems. Just make sure your case has enough room and the right fan slots to fit the radiator(s). This is probably way out of your scope (like the X99/LGA 2011-3 chips), but there is now a new RAM specification; DDR4 SDRAM. It's essentially an upgraded DDR3 SDRAM, with more capacity (at least 128 GB) and higher "accessibility". It was just released about 3~6 months ago, so prices are still (really) high and there are only a few Motherboards/CPUs capable of using it. (Apparently "Broadwell" might have some chips using them...) But for now, DDR3 SDRAM is still fine; I mean, who has really used 32 GB of DDR3 ram so far? Hope this helps. Bozzah
Damn, I feel like I made a time travel haha Had to read quite some stuff again. looks like I finally found something that will fit my needs, with this one, I will also be able to upgrade to ddr3 ram in a couple months... now I'm just not sure if there is a better one for that money ... I've seen another one by ASRock but Gigabyte seems to be the better choice, I might be wrong on this one though... GG14876
I know it's your decision and you have a restrictive price limit, but it may be better to just save your money for a while and upgrade to something more current. From what I've seen, that board on Amazon is at least ~80$ and has to ship from Japan... Anyway, I hope you get to playing GTA IV again soon. Flachbau
I would also recommend you to save up at least $400 so you could start building a PC.
