The vehicle damage feels scripted in GTA V

Just throw your car against a train, and you'll see how good car deformation is.

And is NG damage worse than last gen?! That is so f*cked up

Compared to GTAIV, cars in GTAV need more brute force to look like that.

Stunning work! How did you do that? :D

If you got hit by a train in last gen you could f*ck your car up like the screenshot. It's impossible to do this in the new gen though.

Yeah the thing is previously you could at least mangle your car like IV although it was harder but now in next gen you can't even dent let alone deform about 40-50% of your vehicle i.e roof and sides which is such a shame.

I fully expect mods for the PC version of V to make the physics all crazy again and for people to find settings that they've disabled on consoles to meet the framerate requirements.

GTA Online sucks though,so without a good online, I doubt it'll have the legs that GTA:SA has had and continues to have with the MTA mod. So I dunno how much it is worth investing into V for the PC just for a few things, if they brought out new story DLC then I could justify it, but I've already played through the lackluster twice and it is super short.

The cars have "soft body" physics, but a very VERY stripped down version of it. I had my Dukes looking like a banana after an encounter with a train, but the passenger compartment wasn't affected. I guarantee this is because of first person mode.

If you watch Achievement Hunters GTA videos, they recently did one where Gavin crashed a Cargobob head-on into Ryan in a Stretch, both moving at full speed. The Stretch twisted like a corkscrew, one tire wouldn't even touch the ground. Yeah that was last gen, but it points out that the damage system is there, just that it takes A LOT to wreck cars that badly and they usually explode first.

Actually they're called rigid body physics (damage is dynamic, but based on a series of algorithms and equations rather than physics simulation). And yes, they downgraded the damage system only to the front and back of the car, the doors and the roof remains intact, just with better scratches. This was made to keep the interior in order and the steering wheel in place, not like in last gen where the steering wheel could appear even in the passenger seat if you're hitted by a train.

For those that want to crumple their cars - are you using a vanilla car or a modded car with armour?

Signatures are dumb anyway.

I don’t get the people that constantly complain about GTA5. If you don’t like the game, well then stop playing it simple as that. I love each GTA game. GTA 5 is just the best one in my opinion do I think they could of kept some stuff from previous games. Yes I do, but I don’t complain about it I just enjoy the game for what it is.

So basically we humans should not complain about anything then, huh? If I buy a car and complain about some of it's issues, I should get rid of it right away? Even though I highly anticipated it's press release and then my custom order for it? No.

Cars actually get deformed more easily in next gen than last gen. Maybe the roof doesnt get too damaged but im positive the cars are more fragile.

The damage seems improved to me. I've noticed some convincing deformation when I crash. I prefer it to that in GTA IV, where the cars deformed a bit like playdough.

Damage is inconsistent. I would like to see more actual dents and deformation on the cars. But it always will be unrealistic. Realistic damage means a sandroad will literally disintegrate your nice Zentorno, a minor bump will break it's suspension and most major impacts would kill instantly.

It's a bit less satisfying to wreck a car than it was in IV where it would crumple like a piece of paper. But less damage means longer chases and bigger action. The actual (visual) damage on the car is a step up from IV. No more bodypanels passing through each other and warping unrealistically. Every bullet hits in the right place, glass splinters more or less realistically and body panels do deform in interesting ways, it just takes a lot more brute force to do it.

I found this image on reddit, some guy talking about a plane falling out the sky near Michaels house. He posted this image and said that the plane must of landed on the car because of the damage. If you take a closer look at the car you can see the exact point which deformation stops. The very back of the car is crumpled due to the impact of the plane which you would expect, but as soon as you cross the imaginary line that signals the start of the first person cockpit you can see the roof is completely unscathed and appears as if brand new. Just thought this was a good example of how Rockstar has changed the damage system from last gen.

They didn't even let the roof and doors get minor dents. They should have left it as it was I mean who the f*ck cares if the camera clips now and then or they could have solved the problem differently like adjusting the camera according to damage or load the cockpit separately and let the car get damaged. Such a shame.

they made the damage alot worse on the new gen version, im especially dissapointed that you cant break open the side of the taco van anymore

----off topic----sort of----

the title of this topic makes me want to be a smart-ass and say that 'of corse the damage is scripted or else the would be no damage ingame'

dont want to be a hater but this Game isnt "Next Gen" at all ! ( except for the 1080p Resolution).

Old Stupid Ai

No AA

No interiors

And the physics, damage And driving is even worse than old gen Games.

Seems like its very easy these days to Impresse the reviewers by only using 1080p And some Vegetation....its sad

Keep moaning about it, it will help.

It will actually, if enough people moan about something Rockstar might actually take notice. I mean there's an 11 page thread on the fact that trees don't move but nobody seems to care about the crippled car damage...

This is the sole reason i stopped playing the game last year and not bothered with the new gen version, i just find it completely dull and very boring, i was hoping to enjoy some epic rolling down the mountain type stuff etc in V but yea...fail.

So, just because you don't like how the cars drive, you stop playing...?

I can't stop laughing!

You expected things that have NOT been announced at all.

Damn, I have lost faith in humanity.

Dang, if Rockstar can't get GTA 5 working right on Next Gen consoles it's downright scary to think what kind of mess GTA 6 is going to be!

The game plays fine. You make it sound like it's unplayable.

Come on guys:

dynamic wind simulation on the trees from the trailers missing in final game

promised improved damage effects are actually worse on Next Gen

no upgraded ai that they promised - police are still robocops with psychic abilities

traffic and ped density nowhere near what the trailers showed

hardly any AA

No new interiors
