The vehicle damage feels scripted in GTA V

I mean it feels like cars are made like they were in GTA 3. VC and SA where they're made from panels that fall off. This is true to life and that is fine, however you can run into objects over and over again and at whatever speed and your car will stay square. All of a sudden though your car will randomly explode and it takes all the fun out of my favorite aspect of GTA games which is driving off of cliffs and what not. In GTA IV you'd always get a warning where it caught on fire and the same with previous GTA games, you knew when to bail, but not the case in V and it sucks.

In GTA IV however you could dynamically crumple up your vehicle and depending on where the engine was, it would never explode. I just turned my cars into squashed up little cubes with lots of angular and sharp metal sticking out all over the place... it just felt so satisfying to do.In GTA V however it is possible to do the same...... but you have to hit certain objects and this is where it feels scripted to me. If I run into a wall over and over again, my car will just explode, if I gently tap a train that isn't even moving and,my car will suddenly be squashed in half..... wtf?

Combine that with how fragile you are in V and I haven't been having as much fun even though it feels like a crazier game than IV.

They updated the damage on Next gen but I agree, the damage is kind of lame

They actually nerfed the damage in next gen, it was a lot better on the old consoles.

How many times do people say 'unlike in 4' or 'but in 4 it was better' there is a GTA 4 section. All the moaning now! The games been out 1 week!

The cars have "soft body" physics, but a very VERY stripped down version of it. I had my Dukes looking like a banana after an encounter with a train, but the passenger compartment wasn't affected. I guarantee this is because of first person mode.

If you watch Achievement Hunters GTA videos, they recently did one where Gavin crashed a Cargobob head-on into Ryan in a Stretch, both moving at full speed. The Stretch twisted like a corkscrew, one tire wouldn't even touch the ground. Yeah that was last gen, but it points out that the damage system is there, just that it takes A LOT to wreck cars that badly and they usually explode first.

Yeah damage is way worse but not scripted though. The passenger compartment no longer deforms in next gen.

Well don't you all think that if your car ended up like that upon first collision would be gamebraking?

OMG EVERYTHING WAS SO MUCH BETTER IN IV.

Hey, kids, if things were so much better in IV, please go to the IV boards and post from the perspective of IV and how it was COMPLETELY RUINED in V.

Because this place could do without constant, perpetual negativity and praise for IV. There are many here that like it, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to find any kind of positivity in here. That's not an indication that V is a bad game, it's an indication that those that are playing and enjoying are being pushed down the board by constant negative comparisons to IV.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

Yeah I wonder why the f*ck these guys aren't going back to play GTA IV if V is so bad. Complaining here will not magically change the damage system. Yesterday, I went on a rampage with my Duke O' Death and the damage was awesome, had a lot of fun for hours, just wrecking cops and random vehicles. Stop being a bunch of whiny f*cks.

On a serious note. I love both IV and V. However, I do not like when people dismiss well founded criticism by demanding people to be positive (fanboyistic) or leave.

Damage in IV was definetly better. ;)

Maybe in GTA V is like that because of the game engine..or...any other thing? IDK why but it's fine how it is anyway. :p

My biggest problem is that you can still totally crumple the car up, but why I said it feels scripted is it depends on what you hit. I drove into the side of a train at low speeds which itself was just pulling away slowly and it totally wrecked the front of it up, however if I drove at 100mph into a wall, it barely has any impact on my car. If I drove off a building in GTA IV and the car got thrown around a bit, it would be wrecked, but in GTA V if I drive off the top of the tallest point and roll down it, it'll get barely damaged and will probably explode. The thing I noticed what happens the most is one of your front tyres gets bent easily and you cannot drive the car any more...

IV was definitely better and my first thought with the PS4 version is it was worse than the PS3, like other things such as the jaggies and the tree's not moving in the wind any more.... maybe these new consoles have worse CPU power, I dunno.

+ I can never knock the mirrors off, they always seem to stay on no matter what, in GTA IV they were a separate thing and you could knock them off by driving too close to a poll or something, in V they just go through the object like they have no collision. If the mirror's ever do come off it is some scripted thing...

Lethal Vaccine

This is why Stunt Jumps are my least favorite aspect for 100% in V. Land awkward? BOOM. Time to reload and try again (to keep the 0 Deaths count in the Stats). It's a real pain in the ass. Same goes for flying out of the windshield. You can hit something going a million miles and hour that you KNOW you will fly out...Yet you don't. Then when you tap into something knowing you will NOT fly out of the windshield....You do. It's really hit or miss as is the Damage System, too. These are some of the complaints of V. However, they still don't bother me that much. I can look past it.

Plus, with the Save Editor on PS3/360, you can make Vehicles indestructible and then you can crash as many times as you want to see the Damage System. It works, but without the Editor, your car would of exploded before you can damage it enough to look like how it does in IV when you collide into things, etc...It CAN happen in V, but it takes so long to get it like that and furthermore it basically only can be done with the Save Editor...

To the people saying "Go play IV". Remember, most of these new gen gamers had mommy and daddy buy them their consoles, and they probably had to get rid of their old gen consoles, making it impossible to play IV unless on PC.
They need to complain because they're spoiled brats.

Why the hell should I play IV when I like V? The only complaint I have is the damage is downgraded and I enjoy it better in the previous game. If the physics were better in the previous game then you should expect them to be improved and not downgraded.

Crimson Flam3s

Rockstar should release a cheat code to keep us happy.

Iv cheatcode: Doubles the damage to cars so they don't feel like tanks, cars go on fire instead of randomly exploding, and theres a toned down slidey cars cheat for that handling.

Damage is worse on NextGen, even though they claimed it was enhanced.

It is SLIGHTLY enhanced, just a bit. The scratches on the vehicles have some sort of alpha texture or tessellation effect to them. (Probably not what it is.) Either way whatever effect they are now using gives it a "3d" effect. The scratches look like they have depth to them rather then simple textures.

Same with the blood on cars, it looks a bit 3d, but it's again just a texture. Seem more reflective.

Now in actual physical daamge, it is worse. Doors no longer dent, same with the roof. I assume this has to do with the FPV view, (What if the roof caved in in FPV? How would that look without your head clipping through?) etc.

I've never had a car randomly explode in V. I've had them sputter, though, which is probably a good sign to find a new car. Usually I mess up the wheels before I get to that point. They will explode if you jump off cliffs and don't land upright, so avoid doing that. I will agree that the damage in IV was much better. I remember completely destroying the Comet and still driving it around, with every inch of it damaged, dented, or scratched.

I wish we could have a discussion in at least one thread without somebody bringing up IV, because every time someone mentions IV, hell breaks loose. Nobody was comparing the two game in the first place but people act like they're all of a sudden supposed to and start bashing it and then belittle anybody who posts in favor of it.

Actually, the topic creator was comparing them.

Also, you have to expect that V will often be compared to IV and SA. They're the closest related games in the same franchise, so its going to happen, whether people want to compare how V is better or how it is worse, it will happen.

Maybe if we could learn how to discuss and debate, this section would be better. It would be a sausage fest if all complainers left and it's going to stay like this if we keep berating everybody.

Compared to GTAIV, cars in GTAV need more brute force to look like that.

Stunning work! How did you do that? :D

Look, there's no question that the damage system is there under the surface. You CAN f*ck up a car as badly as in IV, and it looks better/more realistic when you do, but Rockstar did make the cars stronger and they almost always explode when they take too much damage.

I rammed my Dukes head on full speed into a train, and just exploded instantly. While it was cool and I laughed hard, it's not as fun as smashing into the train and getting pushed along into sh*t for a mile then being left with a mangled carcass of a car to limp away in.

I hope rockstar will find some way to crank up the damage despite first person view.

I don’t get the people that constantly complain about GTA5. If you don’t like the game, well then stop playing it simple as that. I love each GTA game. GTA 5 is just the best one in my opinion do I think they could of kept some stuff from previous games. Yes I do, but I don’t complain about it I just enjoy the game for what it is.
