Ps4 pop in performance

As I'm sure a lot may have noticed now having the game for a week, there is considerable texture and shadow pop in still present in the PS4 version of GTAV.

My question though, is will installing a SSD, or the more affordable SSHD, reduce this? Does anyone have these types of hard drives installed and can comment on the game performance other than load times using these types of hard drives instead of the PS4 hard drive.

Yes. The PS4 hardrive is a 500gb 5400RPM, which is kind of slow and outdated. PC now and days used 7200RPM or more. I recommend getting an SSD drive for your console, it will indeed help with speed up loading times, and help with performance.

Would you recommend a hybrid?

Sure! Just make sure the RPM is 7200 at least.

There is no texture or object pop-in on PS4. An SSD won't make a difference.

However, because of the draw distance, some objects will fade into view as you get closer, but that has nothing to do with how quickly the data can be streamed in as it is hardcoded to fade in at a certain distance no matter how fast you approach it.

Draw distance is not the same thing as streaming data. Certain things appear when you're a certain distance, but it's not because of the hard drive not loading the data fast enough, it's just because of LoD (level of detail). So you can walk slowly toward an object, watch as it fades into existence, then step backward a couple steps and watch as it disappears.

As I said before, I have no streaming issues. I haven't seen a single texture load in front of me. It happened from time to time on PS3 though, but not on PS4.

Mines fine

Why are so many people having problems?

They don't have problems. They just want a perfect game, which isn't possible.

GTA V disc version was a nightmare on PS3 in the end in terms of texture/buildings/objects pop-in.

Therefore I bought a PS4 along with a pretty cheap 250GB SSD from Samsung and the digital version of GTA V to eliminate the continuous bluray disc reading.

It works like a charm but I do get some slight frame-rate drops down to ~20fps (just estimated) at some very detailed locations, for example near vagos hood during daytime with all the skyscrapers in the background.

There are a lot of pop ups even with a SSD. I have one in my ps4 and by looking on gameplay on youtube, I see that I have the same pop ups that people with the stock hdd.

The loading time is faster, as for performance and texture streaming didn't have any improvements.

There is anoter thread about ssd vs hdd here: http://gtaforums.com/topic/748396-ps4-gta-5-hdd-vs-ssd-loading-time-and-character-switching-in-story-mode/

SSD's or Hybrids won't help performance, DF have already tested this and showed no improvement. I have heard that it's helps with other games on PS4 as well as X1 with the external SSD's. Here is the article explaining :)

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-grand-theft-auto-5-performance-analysis

It definitely helps with loading times and how long it takes to switch characters though. Switching characters on my drive (hybrid) takes about 4-5 sec.

I'm no stranger to texture loading or pop-in. I've seen plenty of it on PS3, but my copy of the game is not having issues loading anything on the fly. I've only noticed draw distance LoD. I have a 7200 RPM drive though.

I have a 1tb SSD installed on my Ps4.

I can't compare with a normal HDD at this stage but compared to Ps3, the intial load is super quick. Loading online still takes ages due to servers etc.

Switching characters is much faster than Ps3.

As far as Pop-Ins go, I haven't really noticed anything apart from Online mode, the aircraft inside hangers "fade-in" as if to verify who is approaching it.

I haven't noticed any "Pop-Ins" in Single Player but then I still have DOF turned on and and rather absent minded about such issues, I'll try and concentrate on this pop-in feature you have and let you know.

Doesn't PS4 install all games to the Hard Drive anyways? Wouldn't have digital or disc not make a difference other than the initial load to verify that the disc is in the drive?

At the moment I'm having assets load up about half a second from each other in cut scenes, did somebody say yoga, where your not even moving, bits of Michaels house were appearing, trees and walls etc. Really bad. It's not a subtle thing.. It's broke.

I'm definitely not the only one with these issues, though seems some do have it and some don't.

The ones that don't, simply saying there isn't an issue because your not experiencing it isn't going to help at all.

There clearly is for some, myself included.

In game, traveling fast, yes I'd expect it, but not during relatively static cut scenes.

I'll get a video up of it when I'm home from work and also open a ticket with r* linking them to it.

Frankly, I suggest anyone else with the issue do the same so they can see it and are fully aware, we've done our bit then.

I really haven't noticed much on mine to be honest. It's been pretty smooth all the way.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

This.

The smaller bushes, shadows and objects are coded to fade into view once you get close enough. Has nothing to do with streaming issues or hard drive type/performance.

i would like to slap everyone complaining about pop-ins. the map is rocksolid! compared to my halfdead ps3 performance its like night and day! the first thing i noticed was that nothing is loading in. everything is there.

cant describe it better than that: the map feels solid! i guess it wont be until gta7 is ported to ps5 before we have such a solid map again.

I unlocked Trevor last night.. And did the flying mission where you had to race Ron home.. During the landing, I could see shrubs appearing a few hundred yards infront of me as I was approaching the runway..

But they don't appear at random.. The appear in a line, which pushes forward as I travel towards the runway.. It was really distracting, as the smaller details were simply being populated as I moved forwards and I am sure it wasn't like this on the PS3. But I could be wrong..

Yes there is, as there is a frame rate drop on certain locations of the map. Denying it won't make it go away, you know.

Anyone saying there isn't in pop in/rendering issues on PS4 needs to seriously go their eyes checked out. I don't remember PS3 version being this bad.

Shadows about 20ft in front of the character render as you WALK towards them. Grass renders as you drive. Trees render as you fly.

Look off into the distance when driving and you'll see that nothing outside a certain radius from the character will render. i'm talking bout vehicles/peds here of course. you can see them all pop in. it's ridiculous for a PS4.

the game looks great but the performance is shocking. frame drops, terrible AA and poor rendering/streaming.

I have noticed exactly the same and I am sure it wasn't like this on the PS3! (Edit: But I am happy to be corrected on this, as this is probably a case of expecting too much)
