Outcast
It's nice to know that next time you spend $30,000 on a car there are people there are people out there wishing you the worst so they can 'make a point.' Somehow the I want a Porsche thread became the no actually I know better than about your own tastes than you do, thread This your first time in vehicle chat? Outcast
If you hadn't been so busy arguing your non-points and actually looked at what people were saying, you'd have seen that he told us already. Scratch that...we got the Cayman. I'm getting it monday. It's 2008 base, black, 911 wheels. Black interior. No nav but that's fine by me. Mileage is 50k. I'll put up a pic of me around town when I get it epoxi, *MURDOC* and sivispacem

GN 92
You should be able to pick up a Cayman for that kind of money but I'd be really, really careful of the 05-07 cars because of bore scoring. Smoke and high oil consumption are the signs. Remedy is a new engine because a new crank plus bearings, pistons rods and block is extremely costly. Actually, so is a new engine. Does that applies to the 07 boxster as well? If yes, then it explains why some guy was selling it cheap and having an extreme hard time to sell it. sivispacem
I think it's only the Boxster S which suffers bore score. uzer
How many miles on it, Doc? IMS Bearing failure is a common problem on these cars in the 40-60k mile range, especially if they were driven infrequently and/or if they go too long between oil changes. You should grab an oil sample during your next oil change and send it to these guys: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ for an analysis that will let you know if there's excess metal in the oil (bad sign, obviously). If you do have metal in the oil or if you hear a metallic whirring near the clutch that isn't from the transmission, you want to address it ASAP. These guys make an IMS retrofit product that will prevent it from failing and blowing your motor: http://lnengineering.com/products/ims.html If you need the clutch replaced, it's probably a good idea to do the IMS retrofit anyway since it requires the transmission to be pulled and it could save you some duplicated labor costs down the line (not to mention your motor). visionist
I can definitely see the appeal. Had a good look at Caymans as the reviews are essentially peerless. Found this example that ticks pretty much every box for me. http://www.autoscout24.com/Details.aspx?id=265764506&cd=635614886630000000&asrc=st End of the day though, I'm glad with the choice I went with, even if dynamically "inferior". The Porsche service charges scare me, and aren't carbon brakes horrifically expensive to re-pad? Besides, I wanted no roof and never liked the boxster.
