Well I just started Eddie's challenge and it was the first time ever I've heard some Most Wanted tracks.

Do you have to complete it in one run? I did the first race like 4 times! It wasn't the only time the game didn't recognize me winning the race..

I bought the game and played it for a few minutes. I lost all of the races in the first mission which is a first for me in a racing game. Why? Probably because of the kind of atrocious handling model of this game. For a contrast, I also recently played Forza 6 Apex on PC which was the first game I played in that series. I got into the handling of the cars immediately. It felt like the best racing game I have ever played from a vehicle physics\handling standpoint.

This game, however, is sh*t from that perspective or really just average. The handling is so dumbed down that it is almost unplayable for a lot of people, people like me who prefer cars to feel like, you know, cars. Jesus Christ, don't even get me started on the story\cutscenes. Undercover was one of the worst in terms of cheesiness and bad writing but this game brought it to a whole new level of dumbness. I feel like I want to punch almost every character I encountered in the game in the face. No, EA, that is not what your audience speaks and behaves like (for the most part anyway). This isn't cool. It's embarrassing.

For the purpose of being informed about this series I will complete the game at some point (I am currently finishing the first NFS Shift game), as dreadful as it is. I have lost all hope for this series though. As long as Ghost Games are at the helm they will keep churning out this kind of garbage that appeals to the masses. They have officially sold out.

I wonder how the characters don't die from heart attacks, drinking all the monster energy drinks in one night.

Or kidney failure. It's kinda weird that they chose to promote an average brand of energy drinks though it is somewhat popular among gamers.

off topic, but since you brought that up, I just drank this yesterday:

And it felt so forced. If it happened just once or twice, I wouldn't mind really, but I stopped counting after the fifth can.

About the story, I thought it was average actually. The antagonists were a load of crap sure, but you can care just a little about the main cast, they did feel like actual people. If only they wouldn't spam you all the time. And weren't such hipsters. And their stories would've made more sence.

Definetly a progress though.

edit:@Kristian: This is the first NFS I bought since prostreet. I only played the demos of shift and such. And this flawed game actually gave me some hope the series may rise again.

f*ck, if they only went full nostalgia then I'm sold.

@guy above me: there was a recent update that lets you move additional 5 cars to a storage. It came with the hotrods, I think.

A local store is selling this game for 30. Should I get it when I can or still pass? I'm curious about the game but I already know how lame the story is, and this game also has that adaptive AI that either lets you win or make things ridiculously hard that I hate so much.

Probably by the end of the year it'll be already hitting the 20 mark, right?

It goes on sale fairly regularly for less than 30, USD or otherwise. Atleast on consoles.

I play on PC but around here prices are pretty much the same (usually PC games go on sale or disvalue more quickly, less people buy them I guess).

Problem here is that I don't buy new games that often (and no, I don't get games through less honest ways :p ) so I don't really want to throw 30€ I could spend on a better game. Well, NFS title loose value rather quickly, in less than an year I'd surely find it for a better price, I guess.

You can try it for free on Origin for 10 hours playtime. You don't have to pay anything.

Is this game any good? Lifelong NFS fan since the second game. I mean, is this game good as for the cars? Like old tuners and all that?

How does the Skyline put up? And the RX-7?

Thanks a lot lads. Love you all.

This was on sale again on the XBL store.

I decided to re-install this game and it's much better than I originally gave it credit for. I really grew on me as I got better, put more money in to car. Last night a mate and I played it for about 6 hours, pass the controller. We had so much fin with it.

Anyone still playing it?

Well, it may not be as good as other racing games, I think Need for Speed (2015) is an alright racing game in it's own right. I just wish they didn't shove the always-online requirement down our throats.

Best NFS in years. I hope the developers are working on a sequel. And this time without the always-online nonsense please. I'm sure that cost them some sales. Throw in some streetracing culture as well, the cutscenes did that well but when you were actually racing the atmosphere felt too bland.

Depends on who you ask. For the new generation of fans, probably. The long-time fans of the series generally say it's pretty average. A lot of the older fans liked the old NFS games like Most Wanted and Carbon and I am included in this category. Every time I go back to these games I instantly get nostalgic about 2004-2005. They managed to capture something essential about that time period and the story was kind of minimal and enjoyable. It was actually well-written for a racing game. I also enjoyed the vehicle physics a lot more in those games because they were somewhere between sim-racing and arcade racing and managed to maintain a balance between challenge and fun. Ever since Criterion\Ghost Games took over they've basically created Burnout clones mixed with some old and new ideas. For many people this is a travesty. It's almost as if R* decided to hand over the rights for the GTA franchise to the Saints Row developers and the result would be some weird aborted child that probably looked more like Saints Row than GTA.

Well, a sequel for NFS games is unpredictable. I mean they will do one for sure given that NFS is the most successful racing game ever basically but EA doesn't even know what this series is supposed to be. A game can evolve and develop into something more complex but not knowing what you want to be is not the same thing as evolving.

I think people should look at other racing games too. I find The Crew to be a more interesting arcade racing game than NFS in most respects.

I'm currently at the hospital, got an apointment. After I get out around 12PM, I'm gonna drop by the mall to have lunch and get myself a copy of the game.

I heard a lot of good stuff about it, so I decided I could give it a try, because from the cars I've seen in screenshots, videos and what not, the graphics, the setting...

I actually am happy I'll get to play it, even for someone who got to enjoy the greatness games like Most Wanted and Carbon had.

After I play it, I'll leave my review on here, I guess. :)

EDIT: I've been playing it a bunch! I gotta say I like what I see so far, especially the photorealistic graphics and the amazing cutscenes. Only complaint I got is the fact that the online only deal still is implemented in the game.

Criterion\Ghost Games took over they've basically created Burnout clones mixed with some old and new ideas. For many people this is a travesty.

Wow, wow, wow... slow down, what? Those were so good, Hot Pursuit 2010 is probably one of the best in the series.

As a long time fan of the series going back to the days of NFS II and High Stakes, yes those are NFS games to all of you "Underground" players. I'd say Criterion did a great job, you pick a car, you pick a color and you go.

Racing at break neck speeds in a Diablo, with ton of cops and a police chopper on your tail while zooming through a redwood forest, now that's Need For Speed.

Most Wanted 2012 on the other hand is my most played online game ever, beating Bugatti's in a ZR1 was my thing.

Anyway, online had a great "party vibe" with meetups and fun events like jumping and drifting (it's more fun when you actually play it), and of course racing.

As for single player it was basically Hot Pursuit in a city, but with more realistic police force aka no Zonda police cars hehe. Fun handling, all the billboards, speed cameras and Autolog made it very competitive.

Rivals was made in partnership with Ghost, but still a great game. Can't say much because it has the positives of HP and MW, it had some bugs but that's what you get for making a racing game in frostbite.

Now there's an oddball call The Run made by Blackbox, original idea, a bit glitchy (again frostbite) overall fun, not a total disaster.

Now I wasn't the biggest fan of the Fast & Furious titles, I mean Underground. I prefer Midnight Club games for my street racing but even I can't deny that those games had a TON of customization, to a point where RX-7 looked like a disco club on wheels.

Then EA says "were taking an extra year to revitalize the series" and what we get is a game with limited customization, weird ass handling where your car just clings to walls every chance it gets, laughable cops where you have to drive like 30mph so they can catch up.

For example 90's Mustang has like 3 splitters, 3 diffusers, one side mirror, 2 exhausts, 1 side skirt, 3 spoilers and 1 body kit. With free update it was said they will add more parts for some cars, behold the Mustang got 1 taillight and 1 hood option.

Zozl_f-maxage-0.gif

I mean seriously, wtf.

Need For Speed was dragging on with Underground like games to a point where they just did Shift because they had no idea what to do, Criterion brought it back but after just a short time the kids started crying that they wantz kustomisation. Now we have this mess to thank them for.

For me either they make the best "Classic" NFS or the series can just f*ck off and die, because I have this feeling next game will be NFS2016 part II.

If you consider "in years" to be 2011-2016 then I agree with him. MW2 was worse, The Run was OK but not enough, Rivals is a disaster, No Limits is a mobile game.

I really loved Hot Pursuit 2010. Man the drifting in that was so fun. It was ridiculous but fun. I got all gold in all races. The online was a great laugh too. I played that til my disc broke.

Hot Pursuit is probably the best out of all Criterion\Ghost Games NFS titles. It was pretty basic but I eventually got into the handling and it felt kinda good. I would definitely like to play it again at some point (once I purchase a 4K monitor) but it doesn't compare well to other racing games from that era overall. It feels pretty bare-bones for a console\PC title.

Hey, I grew up on NFS II and I played the others for a bit. I do intend to play all of them at some point and I do feel a bit of nostalgia for these games as well but you have to admit that most of them haven't aged well. The physics\handling sucked really bad up until the first Underground. Cars felt too heavy and didn't resemble the way real cars handle (but supposedly that's what they were going for). I can still play the first Underground game and enjoy it quite a bit. It's a bit more arcadey compared to the previous games but it's the good kind of arcade racing.

I haven't played the new Most Wanted a lot but I don't like it very much. The way you complete races is stupid. I need a guide or something to find all of the races for the different cars. Also, I think I remember hating the police in that game, but NFS games generally suck in that regard. The police in the original Most Wanted was OK for the most part.

I haven't played rivals yet but I will give it a shot. It's one of those games where the devs went like "you know what would be a great idea? Making the PC port suck sh*t like the console versions." and they capped the frame rate to 30 FPS.

The Run was kinda meh. I didn't care for the story and the handling felt like the worst of both grip and drift style driving.

I only played Midnight Club LA and I was disappointed unfortunately. The handling is way to arcadey for me to be able to enjoy it. It's even worse than all of the Criterion\Ghost NFS titles combined. I'll give this series a pass (but I will complete LA at some point). I don't think this series holds a candle to the "good" era of Black Box NFS games (UG, UG 2, Most Wanted, Carbon).

Shift was meant to be its own series but it wasn't really all that good for a sim racing game. It's one of those games that I can't play without steering or braking assists (and no, I'm not talking about STM and TCS). It's nowhere near as enjoyable as the Forza games from that era. Shift 2 is even worse somehow. There's input lag and the handling feels even weirder somehow. It sucks because both games look pretty well made otherwise and the progression structure is pretty good.

Depends on who you ask. For the new generation of fans, probably. The long-time fans of the series generally say it's pretty average.

If you consider "in years" to be 2011-2016 then I agree with him. MW2 was worse, The Run was OK but not enough, Rivals is a disaster, No Limits is a mobile game.

Most modern NFS titles feel like mobile games to be honest. It's meant to be that way because how else would they manage to sell so many copies.

Haha, complains about arcade handling in an arcade racer. I don't like Battlefield because it has guns.

Midnight Club is definitely better then any Underground game, it might not have all the customization options but the rush of racing with all the checkpoints and shortcuts is really something else. You might have a race when racers split in 3 directions and they all meet up in one point, you come from the alley, two cars jump down from a mall, other car drives on the street with cops on his tail.

Not to mention all the vehicle classes, in a race you can have bikes, muscles cars, tuners, super cars. And MC has that R* heritage of open world, world that feels alive.

As for Criterion, like I said they nailed it. Because after all this is true essence of Need For Speed:

There are several points in there that are worth addressing. What I meant by "too arcadey" was that cars turn too easily to the point that it hardly resembles a real car. There are definitely degrees of arcade physics and older NFS titles were more realistic or enjoyable for me than Midnight Club.

Yes, LA has some cool features but the overall experience is not that good in my opinion and this is largely due to the car physics. The reason why I like the old NFS games is not the tuning\customizing features. In fact I hardly modify my cars in these games apart from performance mods (and those offer an incentive to progress). I liked these games more because driving the cars felt good. Cars in Midnight Club LA turn quickly and it feels like there's some sort of input lag. It's very hard to explain. Most NFS games feel way more responsive. Basically any game that implements input lag as some sort of mechanic is f*cked for me (the worst example of this is Shift 2).

Tuning and stories are not inherently bad for a racing game. I think Most Wanted and Carbon kinda nailed both. The only thing that f*cked UG2 was the rating system which mandated that you turn your car into a pimp car.

Edit: The story in MC LA is actually decent from what I can tell. I just can't bring myself to enjoy the handling of cars.

Seriously, not selling a physical copy of this game for PC is absolutely disgusting. Is there any other way to get this (other than Origin)? Origin dosent seem safe to me, i've heard a lot of users complain about it.
