Multiple ethernet ports from modem?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have a modem from TWC and it only has 1 place to put the ethernet cable and that cable goes to my router.

I want to connect my ps3 directly to the modem.

Is there anyway to have 2 ethernet ports on the modem so I can run one cable to my ps3 and one cable to the router?

... Can't you connect from the router to the PS3 instead? I mean, that is what it is supposed to be for, right?

If for some reason that doesn't work, and I don't know if such things exist, but I would say call TWC's "questions/help" line and ask if they have a two-port modem. Also, from what I can gather, you can't split an Ethernet cable (using a splitter adapter) and use both as separate input/output as it's a "point-to-point" connection. (Edit: You can split it through a router though, as it's designed to do such a thing. Just wanted to clarify.)

I don't think so. Not even if you use a splitter, or something.. why not connect via Wi-Fi?

You could also purchase a different router with multiple Ethernet ports on it.

I had a feeling your question was due to something like this. Only thing I can really recommend in a similar "idea" would be to make sure that, when online with the PS3, you aren't using the internet on anything else (downloads/movies).

Of course, there are other ways to improve your connection in "unique" ways, but I don't think you'd be interested in moving and/or getting a job working at your ISP...

My ps3 is connected to the router. I just thought if I could connect it directly to the modem I would get a better connection.

You can. Your only issue is that there's one Ethernet port on your router.
