Okey WTF! I may be onto something. I started GTA Offline as Franklin and called the number inside the house. I got an explosion and the phone got a black theme and became bigger. After that I called again. The phone became smaller, but stayed black and no explosion. I went outside and called again. I got an explosion and an Auto-save alert! I will upload a clip soon.

I am after the mission "Bury the hatchet"

@Vertighost: Yeah I understand now, although I didn't really late last night and slightly inebriated (tis the weekend after all!) haha! Sorry.

You're right though, I guess it could stand for something else. And if it did have another meaning then that could lead us in another direction of how to use it.

Like your YT vid...that tram driver, wtf was he doing! He certainly wasn't a fan of the 'EMP DROP'.

Is being inside a tram considered being inside an interior of sorts? I've been thinking, seeing as I can get it to work inside Franks house but not Mikey inside his...why does it work inside only some interiors with some of the protags...maybe a reason for it? I haven't tried it enough with all 3 of them to say for sure and will be trying when I hopefully get on today, but definitely something to think about.

Edit: @GTAMilik: That's interesting! I wonder why it saved? Like you, I can get it to work inside Franklins house, have you tried it with the other 2 players in their properties? Will be good to see your vid!

No idea if this might be relevant but a new phone number has been found - possibly added in a recent update. The last few digits spell out EMPDROP.

Right, ready! After dialing 19993673767 you get the explosion and bigger phone etc...

As shown here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcESv37Lby4

Now if you dial any old number it will say "busy" and there will be 3 beeps, it won't dial, ring or anything...

(I'm not sure if this is old, or already known?)

Now after some experimenting I dialed 1999367 and this happened, it doesn't usually dial or ring so I thought it was quite interesting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FkWvlir0lU

And then 1999376 and this happened, this is what I found most interesting of all:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M740NWVS1JI

I'm going to experiment and see if I get different results.

PS; I haven't %100 the game yet.

Im am going to try to recreate what I did

who has verified it stands for EMP DROP? it could just be what that one person came up with

I'm the one who said it stands for EMP Drop, because it's what makes the most sense with these numbers, and to me it really looks like an EMP Drop. Maybe the numbers stand for something else, as you said, it's not impossible, but I strongly believe it stands for EMP Drop.

I'm going to experiment and see if I get different results.

PS; I haven't %100 the game yet.

I already heard these sounds on some other random phone numbers.

An EMP is an invisible electro magnetic pulse - so can you define how an explosion above your head can possibly linked to an EM pulse ? It just doesn't make any sense.

Just report Starcover for his cryptic nonsense. He has been told twice about this and continues to do it. All he is doing is basically saying "Haha, I know something you don't know", which I guarantee he doesn't. He has contributed absolutely nothing to this thread.

@Aqua: We've heard that dial up modem sound while dialing other numbers. The general consensus on it was that it was just something they put in the game for realism. There is a list floating around that has a bunch of in game phone numbers on it and what happens when they are called. That modem is on the list several times like the answering machine beep, the busy signal, etc.

EMPDROP could also translate to EMPEROR.

This is a really interesting find, props.

It has me thinking though - could this have been intended for a mission? I have heard that there were scrapped heists, and this seems like something that might have been part of a heist. You know, like Lester giving us the number and instructing us to call it to disable some electrical tech.

Large explosions (IE nuclear) release an EM pulse.

It's been in the game since at least the PS4 release. Tried it on a version that hasn't been updated and it worked.

For all those who are experimenting with this new phone number: Once you dialed the number, it's quicksaved and you just need to press the downer left star button on your phone instead of typing it again and again...

That last noise has always been in the game and been known

To clarify: The answer tone is the old dial up internet connection noise. Often used with fax machines these days to dial up... it is very well known to happen with other numbers (in game).

F's house, I guess the always open glass panel makes it a different type of interior and also the fact the interior is viewable from very far away, unlike others, makes it a lot different type, I mean M's windows don't even have another side from the front (secret wall cavity in there) I think F's house is programmed differently, I do admit though that little statue dude in his house has always looked like an ancient jetpack man to me. I looked into it in the past but could not find the exact statue it was based on.

Has anyone tried it while having weapons enabled inside houses, for instance get a wanted level and you can draw a weapon in M's house which you usually can not do.

My latest test, was getting the trio together to hang out and test the Black Cellphones code, no note worthy results, although I want to test again but not let them initiate the "hang out" but be close by so I can activate black phones and switch quickly around seeing if the other guys phones are black from being in a close proximity of the explosion, among other things. Frustratingly hard to get the all together like.

I have also been replaying missions to see if I can glitch them using the code, F's first mission you can not use the phone. Maybe we could compile some sort of checklist of what we all have tested.

Just FYG, already stated at reddit by a couple members, though I only checked it today.

In the Portuguese version of the game the 1-999-367-3767 phone call displays the message "Celulares Secretos" (meaning Secret Cellphones).

The direct translation from the English version "Black Cellphones" in Portuguese, if referring to color, is "Celulares Pretos" in Brazil or "Telemóveis Pretos" in Portugal (Preto in Portuguese is never used as referring to some secret issue, so if the phone code is referring to the cell's theme turning black they should have used "Preto" instead of "Secretos").

ie Black Ops in Portuguese is translated to Ops Secretas (Secret Ops) not Ops Pretas.

This is a pretty interesting post on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/chiliadmystery/comments/407zam/probably_the_code_of_the_black_cellphones_cheat/

When I saw his post, I had a look at the game code as well and found some interesting things: (copy paste from my reddit comment)

Great find, man! The code in appcontacts.c4 indeed checks if the player is alive, and if the player is in a vehicle. It then triggers an explosion with smoke (?).

Found some more things in the game code:

In the code, the 'cheat' is also called "CHEAT_MONOC". Which kinda makes sense. 'Monoc' could stand for Mono Color or something.

Also, you're right: g_C0F seems like it checks if the cheat is active.

In the file appemail.c4 the code says:

if (g_C0F == 0) {    MOBILE::SET_MOBILE_PHONE_SCALE(500.0 + (75.0 * (1.0 - v_2)));}

So, if cheat is active, set the scale / size of the phone to this size.

Also, in cellphoneflashhand.c4, the code checks if the cheat is active, and changes the background image of the phone. (?)

if (g_C0F == 0) {        sub_6cbc(g_383A, "SET_BACKGROUND_IMAGE", __573_$BBDA792448DB5A89(g_18353._f3179[g_384D/*20*/]._f9), 0xbf800000, 0xbf800000, 0xbf800000, 0xbf800000);    }

That's all I could find. Doesn't seem like the 'cheat' does much more than changing the phone background + color, and trigger an explosion. Weird. Very weird.

This code looks like it was added in build b372d, which was in may / june 2015? Not completely sure about this, though.

Everyone put your thinking cap on! Seems like they talk about it on the mission friend request and the movie meltdown. Also, after much evaluating, what Im getting from this is:

VzZD3OP.jpg

In case you don't see it the fruit tree is referring to the ifruit phone. Has anyone tried using cheats to see if they work without registering?

This has been talked about like 1 trillion times already and has been known sincethe game came out in 2013Yes but no-one was aware of the phone. Notice that in the beginning of meltdown, it looks like the matrix code is scrolling sideways in the credits. The latest phone number has the sound similar to getting teleported back to the REAL world from a "black" phone which is stripped of features (rotary phones). In the matrix, cellphones were easily traced. The mission friend request makes it clear that the ifruit phone is being monitered by higher authority.

Everybody always forgets to get their Zzz's. Maybe you all need a break from the "Game" and just take some time for yourselves and not do anything for greedy rich dudes.... is what i would have said a few months ago.

Now i'm just going to say, try sleep mode.

No. No more wild dream, crackpot theory horseshart. This thread be getting THIRSTY AF. The mystery thread of old would have long past moved on from emp drop and 7pointless peyote by now. Unfortunately, i fear our only hope now is SP DLC..
