jamieleng
*cough* M's special ability/F's special ability *cough* I think you'll agree that Marston's Dead Eye system (slo-mo shooting & being able to tag multiple enemies) is much more satisfying to use. The only special ability I find useful in V is Franklin's slo-mo driving & you sort of have that in RDR, activating Dead Eye while on horseback. MrDeSanta
Rockstar is getting lazier. How come the game like RDR which was made 4 years ago on old gen and with half of the budged V had, did do better in so many aspects? Why they couldn`t make the gun damage system the same for V when they had more resources and more money to do so? This is very flawed if you ask me. You shoot someone in the leg or arm and he will act the same while in RDR they will act properly. Remember at least 6-7 type of executions we had in RDR? Gore was and absolute madness. You could shoot someone in each knee and then when they fell down on it you could get close to them and blow their brains out with sawn-off shotgun. It was very graphic and it felt really terrible. You actually felt bad for doing that because everything was so real and graphic and the person were reacting very realistic. Blood, screams, moans, begging, all that felt so natural. In V killing people is really bland and shallow. Like you`re killing some dummies. Not that i`m some psycho who likes to watch gore but i like having things more real and graphic. Because the result is completely vice versa. After i executed few people on various ways in RDR just for test i never wanted to harm anyone anymore in that game except in the missions of course.. Everything felt so realistic that i actually felt bad for those people. I don`t have that feeling in V when killing those brainless robots. Now i think this is a good pinpoint about which game has more details. RDR wins in every way. Besides if you`re one with the nature like me it will never get boring. However i do have 2 major complaints about RDR: -glitches (this was possibly the most glitchiest game i`ve ever played. I`m sure we all know funny glitches in Armadillo poker room and Herbert Moon glitches) -wolves. Wolves in RDR got to be the most annoying ingame anmal ever. Their spawning system was totally screwed and i often had chances to kill few hundreds of them in a matter of minutes. Also they were in every part of the map which is unrealistic. Wolves shouldn`t be in Mexican desert. They were also too agressive and they were barking like domesticated dogs. It seems Rockstar failed to do the research on wolves in real life but every other animal in RDR was just perfect. Remember how fast cougars were in RDR? He could almost catch you up on a fast horse. Gavlah
having owned/played every grand theft auto and owned every rockstar game for the xbox 360. I must admit RDR is a cracking game, but what they learnt from it and what innovations they have added to it the game, shows in GTAV. Without RDR, personally I don't think that GTA V would have been as good. realistically i think you are a fool comparing a game that is 4 years old to a game that is just over a year old. technology changes a lot, and so do game engines. the op knew this would spark a debate. You can almost outrun him in V. @ MrDeSanta I agree with most things you have been saying so far recently in this thread, but you are wrong about one thing. In real life, there are indeed wolves that live in the Mexican desert, Rockstar did their research well. And to be more accurate, most of the land on the Mexican side in RDR was not desert, it was semi-arid terrain with vegetation, like rocky outcrops, chaparral, brush etc - typically where wolves in Mexico inhabit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_wolf I have to admit though, the wolves in RDR did get a bit annoying, but I guess it's just part of the challenge, I still enjoyed finding ways to kill them or just flee from them. @ Duke Travelling across the map in RDR was one of the best things about the game, I don't know how you can say it's boring, and even though I respect your opinion, I'm just countering it. Like Mr DeSanta, I like wildlife, and I really enjoyed just slowly riding my horse in the wilderness, day or night listening out for various animal sounds, seeing animals in action in the wild. You just never knew what kind of creature you'd see at any given time, there was all sorts of animals lurking around. Another thing was the random events, as repetitive as they were, it was still fun to be travelling and just randomly encounter them, because they were still varied, and still fun. I loved travelling across RDR's map, I will never forget my first moments doing it. At least its got its own thread. OP. Yeah, RDR was an awesome game for sure! The random missions were pretty awesome too! I loved those in RDR and was hoping for something very similar in GTA V Ps3. The Randoms in GTA V were awesome but you could really only do them once.. which was a bit of a downer.. I wish they add a crap ton more of these and make them repeat over time. They will add things eventually, good things come to those who wait. Red dead was amazing. I spent i think 30 hours hunting lol GTA V is amazing too (for me anyway) but in a different way probably the dumbest thing Ive read on the forums. Thanks for the christmas laugh To those who wait? Good things should come to those who f*cking payed cash money for the f*cking game when it f*cking released. SA delivered on release. No DLC necessary. RDR delivered on release. No DLC necessary but then they delivered again with Undead Nightmare. Since Vs release its been desperately crying for DLC. MrDeSanta
@official general, i admit i didn`t know this. I haven`t read that link yet so i don`t know if it`s about grey wolves or any other. Yes i could be wrong but what about their barking? Wolves can bark but very diferent from domestic dogs and they do it rarely. In RDR they always bark. Anyway there are way too agressive. Perhaps wild animals were more agressive back then than they are now but still. Too many of them, too agressive and that barking thing. It`s pretty much only complaint i have on R`s wildlife. Yes, Nuevo Paraiso isn`t just the desert but there isn`t one spot in RDR`s map where there wouldn`t be plenty of wolves. Except for the small part of McFarlane`s ranch if i remember correctly. They are even in Stilwater Creek where is swampy area. But i don`t think that was made intentionally, perhaps it`s some sort of bug because the numbers of wolves spawning is simply ridiculous. But it has one good side- you can make alot of money from their body parts. I could ussually score more than 1000$ in 1 hour hunting wolves. But cougars, man they are made just perfect. I was afraid everytime i rode through Rio Bravo. When i heard that terrifying cougar scream it scared the sh*t out of me. Or bears in Tall Trees. I even bought myself a pair of headsets because it was easy to hear them coming by heavy breathing. In short, everything is made so good and realistic. V is good but it loses all it`s shine when compared to RDR. When you`re literally shocked by execution of an ingame character or when your skin is crawling from fear when you`re attacked by cougar or bear then you know it`s a helluva good game. Official General
@ UAL When you mean RDR was kinda boring after the main story, do you mean only playing as Marston ? Because you still can do missions playing as Marston's son to get revenge for your father's death, and I really enjoyed doing that. Playing as Marston's son, I even killed the Edgar Ross's brother just to even things out - even though he did nothing wrong ! I nearly killed Ross's wife, but I let her live, because she sounded so sweet. There were still bounty missions, and small side missions left to do if you looked closely. @ MrDeSanta Cougars are my favorite animals in the RDR. RDR is probably the only game where i play as good guy outside of missions. I only kill bad guys. You have tons of things to do and keep in mind the kind of things you don`t get bored so fast. At least i don`t. Bounty hunting- you can do it forever, cleaning the gang hideouts, arm wrestling in Mexico is freaking awesome. I love the voices Marston and his opponent is releasing during the wrestling, it`s real fun. Hunting, treasure hunting, searching for plants, sharpshooting challenge, poker, blackjack, horsebreaking, horseshoe playing, reading the interesting newspapers, getting drunk at the saloon is hilarious, cheating at poker and then getting called for a duel and killing Herbert Moon 4x or 5x and then going to his store and buying goods from his 5.th skin ... Tons of fun stuff. Now don`t get me wrong, V has alot of stuff too but it has less replay value than RDR`s stuff. Also hunting in V just sucks. It doesn`t even deserves to be called hunting. I also have to give a compliment for excellent voice acting in RDR. Rockstar did an awesome job on it. Look how many different NPC voices there are in the game. I can only imagine how many people they needed for this. And so many different accents. Just amazing.
eastriver
Both are great games and GTA V definitely took some ideas from RDR and implemented it in its own game. For one the random events and the weapons wheel came from RDR. You can also say the slow motion aiming feature in RDR was also taken by GTA V and implemented into GTA V. Animals and hunting were to some extent taken from RDR and implemented into GTA V... although there is much less emphasis on animals due to the very nature of GTA Vs modern city atmosphere. Honestly, both are great games with their own unique characteristics and experiences... picking which is better is very difficult. Which game being better can simply change with your mood and what you're into at the time. However I can say that I found RDRs replayability to be better because it was the first game I 100% completed and I actually enjoyed getting the 100%... I never bothered with getting 100% in any GTA games because picking up arbitrary items hidden throughout the map is just boring and offers no real incentive... there isn't that dull grinding feeling when aiming for 100% in RDR. In GTA IV, you have to pointlessly kill 100 pigeons or whatever around the city... in GTA V you have to pointlessly find some spaceship parts hidden around and these are really boring activities.
