No. It has elements of an MMO but not entirely. Is it the best? Yes and no. I play it more than most other multi-players but has too many bugs and issues. Least EA or Activision don't run it.

It's an Open World online multiplayer, action-adventure *and sandbox. An MMO is a game generally more organized and linear than GTAO, with role combat and stuff.

I would say this comment nailed it very well...for me as Square Enix and RPG fan in general GTAO lacks in some major stuff to be called MMORPG... Yap, in real MMOs you can't do the Leroy Jenkins and shoot everywhere like you can do in GTAO

whatever you wanna call it at the moment the only comparisons to it are watchdogs and saints row, and I dont feel those games even come close to GTA. So in this miscellaneous category GTA wins

32 players in an openword IS MASSIVE

 

Map size is MASSIVE.

 

If it's not a MMO then I don't know what is
