Let's discuss GTA V's awful fighting mechanics.

i kind of wish they gave M, F, T each a distinctive fighting style...

i didn't like how they all fight the same

Everyone in the damn state fights the same :D

Nothing much to say except, "this isn't Fight Night or UFC Undisputed". If you want complex, accurate fighting mechanics go play one of those games.

Grand Theft Auto is about driving/piloting vehicles and gunplay, that's it.

Forget fighting for a second. Pedestrian interaction as a whole is lacking in this entry and isn't even on the same level as it was in GTA IV. Not saying GTA IV was on a Sims level of interaction but it was a lot less anti-social than GTA V. I can't even stand on a train station near peds in this game without being notified to the police. So I slap the "snitch" in the face and somehow they are clean out. Paramedics come and the slap victim is dead? Don't get me wrong however. That one-hitter-quitter can be all kinds of fun sometimes like when you're in the mood to feel unstoppable. Unfortunately, sometimes you're looking for a decent street fight and those instant knockouts just ain't cutting it. And then you get into an actual street fight after a few attempts and it looks like two drunken idiots. And despite all this, I still enjoy getting into fights. Even though they look stupid as all hell I enjoy fighting in this game. I just wish it were a couple steps above GTA Vice City Stories and not a few step below GTA IV.

Red Dead Redemption? Are you kidding me? The fighting mechanics in that game were the worst on any Rockstar game. If you said that to Red Dead Redemption fans, they'd agree.

V sucks too. I agree.

Stealth Mode should've made you snap necks instead of the knockout punch

Grand Theft Auto is about driving/piloting vehicles and gunplay, that's it.

That's a pretty stupid statement. Melee also plays a role in GTA games. It has since GTA III. Are people this stupid on these forums? lol

Nor is it Gran Turismo, MS Flight Sim or Halo. They may be central to the theme, but GTA stopped being exclusively about those things a long time ago, that's why it's the best open world sandbox game on the planet. There's nothing wrong with highlighting areas that could be improved, especially when the devs are more than capable of delivering it.

Surely the idea of GTA standing up to (and in many cases outshining) games across a wide range of genres is a good thing?

GTA V has very very few sequences in which you are forced to use its melee mechanics but in ALL other optional situations does it ever advise nor suggest that you use melee.(Bare Hand mind you) But role? what role, it is not integral at all, there is no reason to have complex melee mechanics, I mean come on if melee is as you say soo important then Rockstar would have made its combat system more complex but did they? No.

Keep in mind my argument is the one against the addition of complex fighting/melee mechanics because it isn't necessary in GTA, a simple melee combo is all that is required.(Just as they are now)

Agree if you do, disagree if you don't. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

gunplay is vastly improved so it's a trade off

rather have v's better gunplay than iv's better melee

i mean, it's a gta heist game.... have you ever seen melee in a Michael Mann movie? haha
