PS3 players: Port forwarding really does solve problems

Reading these forums for the past few weeks, I noticed that a lot of other PS3 players shared my problems with empty freemode lobbies and problems staying logged into the PS3 network. I researched port forwarding online and set up my gateway last week (I use AT&T U-Verse). Now I'm having practially zero problems.

 

Most players will need to consult two sources to get the information they need:

 

  • Their Internet provider (if you're lazy, you may be able to talk support into doing the port forwarding for you)
  • An online source with walk-throughs for different types of routers/gateways. I used this one:

http://portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/PlayStation_Network/

 

It only takes about ten minutes.
