Hi guys, So i've been trying for the past couple of weeks to get this to work, but still no succes.

I'm trying to make a Custom Story Line in GTA 4 in SCO but I want to save and keep track of the story progress.

How do i do that ? because I have no clue...

(I know of the save file in the zombie.c but I don't really understand it)

So if you guys want to help, that would be awesome!!

Thanks,

Stef538

from Alexander B.:

Script writing :
Warning , scocl can't compile any of decompiled scripts , because there is no info inside sufficient for compilation . It's not rly possible to write such decompiler to have all the needed info , so all scripts must be written from scratch .

seems a bit complicated :whuh:

  • 2 weeks later...

You need to use C++ and some files from Skorpro.

Correction, you use C and SCOCL from Alexander Blade (http://gtaforums.com/topic/492143-gta-iveflcrel-scocl/)

:D Yes that's right :D

I only made a small tutorial about "How to use SCOCL" with some examples.

@stef538

Did you checked what happens when you simply save the game (using ACTIVATE_SAVE_MENU)?

Maybe the progress will be saved without any special code... all the main variables must be global (best in globals.h).

I did not.. but how am I going to tell a diffrent script to start ? I mean i have 7 missions, but if mission 1 is done, how do I tell the game to start mission 3 when i'm in that yellow mission trigger ?

the classical R* way has been to have different mission start scripts for each mission strand; this isn't the modern IV way but it suffices for beginners at native scripting

NTAuthority,

Oh, but what then R* is using for checking what mission is ? Global variables ?

All the best,
Paul.

The equivalent of THIS_SCRIPT_SHOULD_BE_SAVED on said launcher scripts has been the way since III, and if you're not expecting to update your scripts keeping save compatibility (changing globals would break it anyway, FYI), is perfectly fine in IV too.

Thank you so much!! You're awesome!

You're welcome :D

PS: After successful mission increase the '253' Stat (+1) like:

INCREMENT_INT_STAT(253, 1);

Important note: Always make a backup of your savegames! Playing around with ingame statistics (STAT natives) and save them may damage your savegames!
