Current Gen transfer info thread!

Me and my friend have been playing GTA on the same ps3, I use my account and PSN and he uses his.
I was wondering when we both transfer our s**t over to the ps4 if the $1,000,000 pre-order bonus will benefit us both or just me who bought the game?

I've seen how it works with my own eyes, I don't know if it was PS3-PS4 or 360-PS4 but I really hope it was the latter because then I'm golden. Regretfully, I only saw it once. I wish I downloaded the video or at least watched it twice, but I didn't, and the video is now removed. Here's my recollection of the events:

 

The guy, who was playing SP, didn't have the latest patch but he got it and when he got back to SP he got "Social Club content added" and stuff. Then he went to "Online" and right there was an option called "Character transfer" and when he pressed it, he got to choose which character he wanted to transfer from a list, much like the one when you choose which apartment you want a new vehicle delivered to, except it was character slots with rank (I think) and how much money each slot had (certain of). Oh, and before all this, he had to agree to the usual Social Club yada yada as well.

 

When he chose his character (slot 1 and 2 where connected) it asked him "are you sure?" and then it said something like "retrieving stuff from Social Club, return to the game", and kicked him back to SP. After about a minute of SP he returned to online and I don't remember if he chose character transfer again or just to go online but he got to the police line up screen which we've all seen and there he got to choose from character slot 1 and 2. After he made his choice he could alter his characters appearance again and boy has that changed to the better!

 

After he did all that he landed at his last location in online with his money intact. He went to his garage and all his cars were there! He went to a clothing store and all his clothes were there!

 

There's my recollection of the character transfer and I'm sorry if it's a bit fuzzy but more than 24 hours has passed since I saw it. I'm still nervous about the transfer and I wish R* would release some information soon.

All your characters will be transferred , when you choose "Character transfer" option then it will show your characters for all consoles .

It's one set of characters, ie slot one and two. So you can take over both your characters from one GT/PSN

The guy I watched chose only one character of two from the police lineup. But maybe I misunderstood and you can edit the second character later or maybe he just skipped the second character (it looked like a character that had never been used). Both were in the lineup though, that I'm certain of.

Yes i think you can select either character, just as you can now,I'm not sure if you can only edit once or not.

I don't know about what consoles the streamer transferred from, but he was using a PS4 and had everything go across smoothly. The process take a few minutes though whilst the game collects all the necessary files.

By the way, if you all wanna know the process, here it is:

 

The streamer completed a few missions in SP mode, and then paused and went onto the Online/Character Transfer tab. The game then asked him if he wanted to transfer his old gen character now or later (he chose now, duh).

 

He then had to sign into social club, the game then collected all the GTAO data of the characters he wanted to transfer, this took 1 - 3 minutes.

The transfer completed and he was then asked if he wanted to enter online, he did. Afterwards he was taken to the prison room (with the height measurements on the board) and was able to choose his character and edit it.

 

After that he was free to play Online, with what I assume was his Adder he had previously used on his old gen console parked next to him, his achievements/trophies from the old gen then popped (meaning they also carry over, online ones only).

 

He still had his apartments, garages, all cars still in them, weapons, RP, rank, the whole lot.

 

TL;DR everything transfers (again).

I totally understand and I too have seen the process go smoothly. Really smoothly, in fact

I just hope you understand that I'm worried about the cross platform transfer. Everything points in the "smooth transfer" direction but I would still like to have it confirmed. It wouldn't make sense if everything didn't transfer but logic and video games sometimes refuse to hold hands

I'm pretty sure you can cross transfer dude, it's all via the social club and R*'s cloud, it's all been confirmed by them anyway. If it were to be done any other way I'd completely understand your doubts. Best thing to do if you're concerned is just hang around in SP for a bit, actively check the forums and see what's happening for other people, and if it's all good, go right ahead.

if i transfer characters PS3 to PS4 successed when PC version get released i can transfer again from PS3 to PC or PS4 to PC ?

You have to realise that this cross over thing on the first day of release with all the servers it can go wrong so people like to know what get s transferred, but thanks for your info.

Hello im new here and i am in a bit of a situation. A while back i made a Social Club account when Read Dead was fresh. I have forgotten it since i only used it for an outfit that was in the game. My question is,is there any way that i cant get that account unlinked from my GT and link it to this one? Sorry for the long post.

No hard feelings at all. Again, that huge caps rant was just so it stayed boldly (tehe) in people's heads. And no, I don't believe so. As long as the same steps occur for you that did for the streamer, you should be all fine.

Oh of course, there's gonna be thousands of people attempting it, so you're right. Now that you've mentioned it I may take in the singleplayer in again for a little longer... Those 1080p visuals...

I saw a streamer last night transfer 360 to os4 perfectly fine
