Adding Gasoline - GTA Game Changer

Imagine cars in GTA run on RON. Would it change the entire game with this one change? Imagine these scenarios:

- Your car runs out of gas. You gotta walk to the gas station, fill your jerry can, walk back to your car and then add fuel to keep going.

- You jack a car only to find out it needs gas. Cops start chasing you, you gotta outrun them or risk running out of gas and getting caught. No more unlimited car chases.

- You're trying to get from Blaine County to Downtown but you're driving a Patriot. You'll make it halfway before you need gas.

- You are chasing a guy, you don't need to shoot out his tires, you just drive until he needs to fill up or he runs out of gas and then you got him.

- Friends chip in for gas money when you are driving.

- Gas prices in Los Santos? $200 a gallon... bye money

- You pull out your jerry can... you can douse the guy in gas and light him up, but he's not worth it... gas is gold.

- Jet, planes and helicopters... better keep your eye on the gas gauge or you're gonna crash.

So do you think it would change the game? Would you enjoy that limitation? Would you make your friends get out and push the car to the gas station? What other scenarios would this cause? Screw another player over by blowing up the gas station they just pulled into?

Not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand I like things in a game that are vaguely realistic, but equally I think it would piss me off eventually and the escapism would be a little ruined. No one likes to run out of petrol on the road, after all.

Then again, no one likes getting blasted in the face with a shotgun either, so...

It would be fun, only if they did it how mafia 2 did (yeah mafia 2 cars had gas) so like it wouldn't be a common occurance to have to fill up on gas all the time so like a car can go for like an antire game day without running out and putting your car In the garage would also refill gas then I would like it

Later people would simply place sticky bombs at the gas stations, like they usually do at the Los Santos Customs' entrance.

I think it's brilliant, it would add more rpg elements in the game.Running out of gas and then walk in the middle of the desert, I think it's typical gta, those little funny things.

Would definitely shake things up abit, especially when things in GTA are getting repetitive again.

Maybe add things like having to eat every few hours or your life slowly depletes, having to sleep every 24 hours, or fatigue will cause your auto-aim to not work as well, running becomes sluggish, ect.

But, only problem with making it too life like, will it slow the game down too much?

Maybe they should add a general 'Hardcore' mode for GTA.

You need to buy gas for your car, you need to eat, when you rob a store and lose a wanted level, you're still technically 'wanted' for some time, (10-20 minutes depending on the crime, sorta' like a 'Heat' level), if a cop spots you the pursuit will resume if you decide to change your clothes, or wear sunglasses you could alleviate that. People do not appear on the radar in freeroam. If your health gets too low, you'll start a bleedout.. etc - I mean if making the game more realistic is somebody's idea of fun, it can definitey be pulled off.

It would probably slow the game down a bit, - But maybe they can buff the cash/rp rewards for hardcore activities (now that we HAVE to buy necessities, it would seem only logical), it would be a lot of fun, but it might only work in the remastered edition.

I think that this is an interesting concept! I would be lying if I said I had never thought about gas in gta, but I think that it should be an option that you can change in the settings menu, kind of like your aiming preferences where you could change it to whatever you like in single player, but if you're in multiplayer and you're playing in a no gas up lobby and you want to go to a gas up lobby, then you'd have to switch to single player and do that in the settings menu.

I would honestly love a hardcore mode like that, they could also have no radar modes too so you don't know where people are around you and it would essentially be super realistic but sadly not a lot of people like the idea of having to eat and what not but for some reason I really enjoyed going to burger shot and getting lunch in past GTAs so a realism mode would be right up my alley

The gas tank in the pic is half full, Unlike all of the other pics that Ive seen. Personally I think it would be awesome to introduce a hardcore mode with food, gas, and other realistic detail. I can definitely understand that most of the data base wouldnt want to play this mode, but I think that would make it more special for the people who do. As long as R* made sure these lobbies were filling. Theres nothing worse than solo session IMO. The best part of the game is interaction with other players.

Nah, i'm not really up for this in a game.

If I want to spend time filling up vehicles at gas stations, I can do that in real life. I'm not missing out on any experience from not being able to do it in a game environment, particularly one where most other players are so hostile.

Fun > Realism.

I'd be up for it as long as it wasn't get halfway across the map and have to refuel.

If you'd asked me a year ago I would have just seen it as an inconvenience that would get in the way of PVP, but I've had enough of PVP now and I'm looking for other things to challenge me and have a bit of fun with.

You'd have to think that the people in refuelling lobbies would be of a similar mindset.

As I'm watching other people play (badly), it just came to me. Nobody every stays in one car to even notice.

I don't think gas would hurt, at all. Nobody would hardly notice. And if you're driving the same car for an hour and don't pass a gas station, you're doing it wrong.

Well eating and having to sleep would be nothing new to gta. GtA:san andreas you had to eat or your muscle mass and stamina would drop.

Also fuel levels in cars and having to refuel was a game mechanic used in the mafia games. To be honest the fuel ran down slowly and refuelling only really happened every few hours. Robbing npc cars was always a lucky dip whether they had much fuel or not.

Overall i would like to see it in gta5. Would be cool.

Fuel seems to work well in GTA 4 (modded in, of course) The version I use is pretty well done, with cars / vehicles having random amounts of fuel when jacked and fuel consumption being not too realistic. It even allows you to have spare 'bottles' (fuel cans for us Brits) that fill you up to 20%. and when you completely out of fuel, you call a tanker that fills you up at location. Probably could be your mechanic in GTA 5. Like the OP, I find endless car chases can get a bit old and the extra strategic layer is welcome. Would also allow us to have pit lanes in races :D I think that R* may have thought about implementing it (how many fuel stations in San Andreas? but decided against it.
