So, GTA:Online is going to move product for Sony and MS?

I wouldn't even consider moving to next gen if GTA wasn't being released on it. I mean, I'm not either way but now I wish I could.

Don't forget the PSplus/XboxLive subscriptions required for online play with Next Gen..

how is that an issue?

Because for some people that may be unacceptable (for a variety of reasons).

I know that if I'm dropping $300~500 on a new console, a handful of games and have to pay $X (can't find prices) each month I want to play online, I might think it over if I could instead get a better computer and not have to pay extra just to play online. At least a new PC could do other stuff I find useful, such as for work-related stuff, Internet stuff that doesn't handle well on a console (e-mail or have they figured that out?) or have the ability to upgrade it piecemeal as better components become cheaper or available (instead of just the hard drive).

To be honest, I was all set to get a PS4 this upcoming Winter, but once I learned that online play requires monthly payments, I set about looking at a new computer...

As for the topic at hand, another thought is that this only covers GTA:V and doesn't seem to bring in the Online portion of the game. Assuming the developers do want to keep Online interesting and alive for several years, I could see them bringing out huge updates (like new cities) every year or so in order to entice more people to play. As for what that might do to sales, well, I'm not economics expert but I would hazard a guess that GTA:V might reach somewhere along the lines of 10 million on next gen consoles, assuming the next title installment isn't a year or two away or they develop an Online-only version that screws with the statistics.

Though, if they really want to look at comparisons, I would think that comparing the sales of next-gen GTA:V over the first few days of release to the original release and the projecting outwards would be a better approximation.

the yearly memberships are 50 usd for psplus and right about 60 usd for xbox live/gold, i skimmed through google for the xbox amount so im not 100% sure on that price, for me, thats not that bad of a deal, and i dont like spending money on many things, i also bought my ps4 mainly for gtao, but i also know ill be playing other games as well on it (i actually splurged and got the destiny edition ps4 and have spent the past month or so playing on there)

MSRP is $60 but you can easily find a 12 month xbl card for ~ $40.

Interestingly enough given the comparison games you mentioned, the only game I have for PS4 right now is Tomb Raider Definitive Edition and I will eventually get The Last of Us Remastered on PS4, having had neither on PS3.

Me too.

It will boost Sony's numbers for sure, with their bundles and bonus money being offered, M$, I'm not so sure.

Well i know M$ got at least one xb1 buyer mainly due to gtao.....me.

Well... it's good to know that someone else will be getting the Xbox One version. I stuck with Xbox One because I still have Gold running until March and I'll just renew it again with the online game code feature from Amazon. It was hard not choosing the PS4 to be honest, but I just like the feel of the controller and the online service better on the Xbox side. I will be getting a PS4 next year though.

Thing is, the main reason to buy a new console would be an exclusive game. I bought a PS4 to play exclusives like Uncharted 4 and the inevitable next installment of Gran Turismo.

No-one buys a new console to play just 1 or more remastered games. They're just desserts to the exclusive main course.

Just my opinion :)

I totally agree. I bought the Xbox One though just because I still have a long time to go with the Xbox Live Gold service. If it wasn't for that reason or if wasn't for Gears of War/Halo, I would of gotten a PS4. I would love to try some exclusives like The Last Of Us, Uncharted 4, and MLB: The Show. I'll get one next year though.

I like forza and bought FH2 so that's another reason i went with xb1.

Yeah. I'm not a huge racing game fan, unless it's racing in GTA, but it did look fun. Both consoles have great exclusives though. Hoping to see a Gears of War re-master like they did with Halo. It will be nice to own both consoles though to get the best of both worlds.

For me it's a no brainer upgrading as my 360 is on life support. Went with PS4 because of the specs and having a bundle with GTA is also nice. I think Sony has a good thing going there.

Probably push more PS4s out the door with the GTAV bundle.

But it probably won't match PS3 sales any time soon obviously because there are far more PS3 out in the wild.

True, but I think it's going to be a game changer. I would love to see the month to month numbers to see if there was an uptick coinciding with the release of this game.

And while you couldn't attribute all sales to GTAV, I'm thinking it would have a lot of influence.

I wouldn't be spending 500+ dollars this weekend if it wasn't for GTA new gen. so yah its pushing hardware...

i think 8-9millions is about right...

the number can sore if/when they add actual content, like game modes, mission creator and stuff like that.

for many people the things they are offering are not enough.

GTA Master 007

Was going to get a ps4 for gta v, then realised its not worth the upgrade just for gta v so I was having doubts about it, until I saw a game called "the crew" and now I'm saving for a ps4, no doubt gta v will be my first 8th gen game, maybe I'll be playing it somewhere around next year though (two weeks left to finish school and still living with parents).

Well, I was right. Sooner than expected but not surprised.

Damn it...I wanted the Last of Us too. But I would have to sacrifice a week of play time so...there's the trade off.

I don't see it passing 3-5 millions mark. 2 millions seems more realistic. I'll wait and see the results

Didn't I just post in here?. Gone missing, some xbone boning mod?. Anyway Microsoft announced their Xbox sales have tripled in the last week due to their "price drop". Of course its really from GTA V. Don't will announce a x7 sales increase anytime soon based on the amount of GTA v players with a ps4.

The price drop helped convince me. I essentially upgraded my ps3 which i rarely used other than for blu rays to an xbox one for $199.

Well thus far the breakdown on sales is:

PS4 sold almost 2.2 million

XBox 1 sold about 900,00

So thus far we're looking at about 3.1 million in sales in the first week. Maybe the investor guy was on target after all with their 8 million units projection.

Dunno if O is strong enough to shift consoles but certainly GTA5 will be picked up by a fair few who already own it.

Is O really that popular?? I don't see it myself but I be happy to be wrong..

I heard it was good but I never imagined it would replace gears of war 3 as the best 3rd person online game,

Its just so tense and methodical.

You owe it to yourself to experience it,

Borrow a ps4 or buy.one down the road
