Yeah it already has it.

 

But what Sony will be giving us is a new system update, which will allow us to text messages while gaming, listening to music, watching videos and more.

 

This should be coming out sometime around 2008.

Just been reading some tech news at Techspot and they say a revision in BluRay's standards for it's media may render new releases unplayable on current or older / oldest machines for the format. How this may effect PS3 in regard to firmware options remains to be seen as the news is not too clear and they plan to update when they know more. It's not a good sign for any early adopters helping to decide the HD format war, only to have to buy new players!?!?

 

 

This also in for PS3 fans and others with capable hardware:

 

StreamMyGame, software offered with subscriptions for HD versions or SVGA/XVGA quality for free. I hadn't heard of this one before, it does relate to gaming... [from the article:]

 

How does it work? Richard Faria from the company told Custom PC that 'We capture your games video and audio directly from your graphics card, and then we compress it into an MP4 IPTV stream in real time.' It really is that simple - with a video and audio stream you can use your main PC as a gaming server, and then play your games on a low-end laptop in the bedroom, or on the PS3 that's plugged into your widescreen TV.

 

'We use part of the graphics card and part of the CPU to compress it in real time,' explained Faris, 'and we form a frame packet of data, combine that with the audio and then fire that over a network. It then gets to the device at the other end, which will decompress the frame and the audio and pass it through to the device's graphics card and audio subsystem. We then capture the keyboard commands from your device and send them back to your main PC, so you're almost remote-playing your games. You're networking the GPU, basically.'

 

In order to use StreamMyGame, you need to install the company's software, and then add your games via the StreamMyGame website. You can then use the browser on your PS3, Linux PC or whatever compatible device you're using to select a game, and the software then tells your gaming PC to launch it.

I have to travel out to f*cking Surrey to get it. Sound to good to be true? Will I get stabbed and die?  It's the 20gig version.

 

I guess another question is...bluetooth, great. Can I set up a wireless network with my PC via bluetooth?

I bought a Compaq Evo n600c with a Bluetooth multiport option, that's the funky thing that slides onto the LCD lid and creates a big bulge there! Anyway, I tried to find one on eBay but they're spendy.

 

 

Why do I say this? I had the same thing in mind, swap data back and forth like the IR method in the days of yore.

 

 

ALSO in the news:

 

Techspot reports that Sony has lost 2.2 Billion (or million? I'll have to check)or so in the rollout of the systems as they set the price of the system below their own costs to build. The figures reported were said to be greater then $500 per system I had mentioned reading since the rollout started.

Since then though, They report Sony's consistent ironing out of the hardware manufacturing has allowed them to cut the production cost for the company and ultimately we may see that passed on to the buyers sometime in 2008. So far, they say you won't notice this because Sony needs to turn a profit because of the losses so far. The fact it may happen this year is surprising with the different models offered.

That's good but Techspot, covering both subjects separately didn't mention anything about upgrades. Some DVD players are, or were future proofed in that same way.... Like Meridian

Guys I want to buy a game from Ebay because it's much cheaper. But I see a lot of 5 Euros and less games that say that they are NOT opened and in the screen they really aren't opened. And sellers have 99% positive with more than 300/500 votes. How the hell they sell it for that price? Are they stolen or something?

Well, you have a PS3 and you probably upgraded it with new firmware which included 1.1, so you know that from experience....you don't need Techspot telling you that....do you?

 

They made a mistake, someone should point it out.

 

I looked up the site you were reading Slamman and the article has already been updated. They were corrected by the guy they were quoting and the hardware isn't rendered obsolete. They basically posted the wrong information and had to correct it later, you can go back and check the same article, you'll see. It will still be able to playback HD content on Blu-ray discs.

I dunno, looks pretty similar in concept to me - only with more limitations.

 

Of course, the physics nd gameplay will probably be a hell of a lot more fun ad prettier.

Sony issued a statement saying there wouldn't be one this month after a couple fakes of the in-game XMB popped up.
