I'm about to buy myself an early Christmas present in the shape of a PS3 Slim (320GB). It says it comes with an AV-cable and some other peripherals, but no HDMI cable. Do I have to buy this on the side?

Yeah you need to buy a HDMI separately but you can get them pretty cheap now anyway.

The Sands of Time have been released on the Store. The other two are to follow in December. Any news on a physical edition of the trilogy?

I might get the Sands of Time. I thought the other 2 we're released already?? Damn good games tho.

Yep, the collection is available on one disc in Europe only! Comes out tomorrow over here infact (got mine today though). Everyone else will have to get the games through the PS store.

Damn. I'd get it with Christmas money, but between GT5 and RDR, I'm not sure I'll have much time to play it. Perhaps Spring 2011. As in when LA Noire comes out!

Yes, PSN was undergoing "scheduled maintenance," which they only announced a few days ago. Surprise surprise, they have taken JB consoles back offline.

 

Oh well, at least I got to buy/redownload some dlc packages while it was up!

When buying the bundle though, i work in argos (Live in the UK anyone ) anyway they do a bundle sometimes with a few games, HDMI cable etc all thrown in! But the HDMI they include is not gold plated, the gold plated ones are supposed to give better picture quality so im told?

 

But HDMI cables aren't to expensive so maybe buying a separate one would be better?

I mean i don't have a HDMI cable yet. But i'm getting one for Christmas so i can play on my HD TV out in my living room. but i never heard of the golden one being better, how much do HDMI cables cost separate there? they cost about $20 - $50 here.

You're told like everyone else is told. Normal HDMI-cables give as good quality as gold plated ones do. "Gold plated" is nothing but a promotional gimmick.

Has anyone used the video editor and uploader, i downloaded the thing that lets you upload video content earlier i haven't used it yet.

 

I dug up this guide to using it because i wasn't sure how it works i would have liked something a little more in depth but i suppose it'll do.

Also maybe someone can help me with this, are there any readers of the cheats magazine PowerStation here, i haven't seen it in my local newsagents for quite some time and the last issue i got had the release date for the next issue missing from the back page which is unusual for PowerStation i've googled the magazine and come up empty the magazines website won't load for me so i can't check there yet.

Oh right! To be honest I'm not enjoying it that much, dont get me wrong it is good and they are a great set of games but they are very much PS2 games, graphically and noticeably gameplay wise. By that I mean fiddly controls with a piss poor camera to boot. I would still recommend it to anyone but it is quite difficult in sections due to these shortcomings.

Well i payed £8.99 for a gold plated HDMI, and the standard one was £5.99!

So for a few quid more i was always going with the gold

Right all. I'm going to confess right now I'm pretty much a new console virgin and completely clueless when it comes to modern gaming. I've played a 360 but that's only because it's my brother's got one, and I did a bit online with it. Nothing serious, I just hopped on when I could.

 

However, since getting a proper job and some decent money coming in, I've had a pang for a PS3. I've not done any background reading on them and I know very little about their capabilities, games available and so on. You might say I've been living under a rock for a good portion of the past 2 years because I wasn't even aware they'd released a slim version.

 

So, in essence, I'm after a PS3 for after Christmas when all the buying dies down. What should I look out for and can you tell me anything about the console at all that might help? Thanks.

This might not be the best place for unbiased info. That said, the PS3 f*cking rocks. Blu-Ray, Games, Free PSN, and mini space heater packaged in a sleek black suit.

 

On a sadder note, I think my launch PS3 is finally dying. It will come on for about a minute before cutting off and blinking red. It's not yellow, but I have a feeling it's not far off. Any suggestions?

Biased is fine. I can work out the bad myself, I just want to know what's good about it and why I should get one.

 

After all, if I was after the bad, I wouldn't be thinking of buying one! Heh.

Other than the games, they're pretty much the same. I'd look at a comparison of exclusives, and see which has what you want. GT5 sold me 4 years ago.
