Seems most popular is Assassin's Creed, but I give a nod to Uncharted, Drake's Fortune... Biggest drawback may be the longevity factor as the mission doesn't allow for much more, the graphics and music give the feel of playing a lead in an interactive movie though.

Last time I dropped by Sony's PS3 site, they had only firmware 2.0 for download. I heard that one is flawed so holding out for improvements myself. Get rid of any bugs, of course

Do you need a memory card if you buy the 40Gb?

40gb = No Backwards Compatibility (Both Hardware and Software)

Not entirely correct. 40GB is compatible with PS1 games. It doesn't need a memory card, even the 60GB/80GB units don't need a memory card. You can transfer data using a FLASH DRIVE. Memory cards are ONLY used for that. To transfer data...that's it.

It should be stated that DATA covers a whole hell of a lot of ground. The multi flash card tray is a great asset makes the higher ended PS3s worthy of consideration. Keeping in mind the PS3 works like a DIY miniPC solution... a big plus is swapping PSP data to and from and storing it as I do on my PC now.

Fact is movies to MSD for PSP playback eat up alot of the extra space, once it was nice to have 32 to 100 MBs just for photos, now we have the main VIDEO, MUSIC, PHOTOS sections in a PSP format card... but in the PC world we would also include ZIPped installation utilities worth of install on various computers, porno pics you want to hide from prying eyes and parents... ect. Screensavers for the PSP should work on PS3 too. Another factor I'm not clear on is getting my PS2 8MB PS2 card to something the PS3 can read. This surly requires some more hardware to be bought???

There were some other issues as well. They also improved game stability for some games.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to say here and I didn't think I needed to explain to him what kind of data you would need to transfer....but anyway if you really wanted to add memory card slots to your 40GB unit you can. You can pick up any memory card adapters and plug them in.

Via USB, makes sense. They gave you a number of USB ports and when I work with all my old PC projects, I noted how a universal USB card reader for all the OSs (bought from Goodwill with driver disk) still refuses to work on Windows 98 first edition. USB is simply amazing in how it had kept up as the defacto interface for new devices! It was always assumed Serial was slower then parallel back in the day as a PC legacy device.

I am hinting at the 'cross polination' (sp?) of PSP and PS3 hardware that is somewhat defined at present but sure to grow into the future as well. I also reference the partitioning and addition of another OS on the same HDD

HDMI provides superior sound and piccture, you can get them pretty cheap depending on how many feet away your system is from the tv...but most ppl's is no more than 6 feet. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5855137 see 19 dollars but im sure you could find one cheaper.

oh i see, ya true, my ps3 is really close to my tv.

i don't have a hdtv, saving money up to buy one next year, along with a HDMI cable as well.

would i be able to tell the difference between a/v and HDMI.

I just bought one for 499 so I hope the price doesn't go down anytime soon! mad.gif

I'm actually posting this from my PS3. I cant complain at all, I feel like I got a

Blu-Ray player.. then got the PS3 & a 80gb computer for free. Or any combination of that.

I actually didn't know the PS3 had this type of online capabilities when I bought it, so you

can imagine my surprise when I just plugged the little cord in and started downloading themes

and other cool enhancements. Even if your like me and not a real big gamer you need one of

these things, it should be a standard in any respectable home theater / entertainment set up.

If I knew how cool these were I would had never sold the one I got when they 1st came out.

Even though I made a killing.. I missed out on an insane amount of awesome!

AV = 576i Telly.

HDMI = 720p/1080i/1080p Telly.

Big difference.

Woop woop! I can get a 40GB PS3 for £99 when a deal I'm looking for comes through. Deals at work on some TVs mean cheap PS3s and not every customer wants one, so we naturally take advantage tounge.gif.

Dunno what that is in £'s but I paid £425 for mine on release, no games or anything, just the 60GB with a controller. Rip off thinking about it now since I haven't turned it on for like three months.

yep, it's true~

you can use the media server through wmp11 and stream it to the ps3 icon14.gif

can't play wmv or any unsupported formats on the PS3 tho sad.gif

I've been using tversity for some time and the transcoding of video/music is sorta hit or miss, sometimes you'll get divx/avi to work, sometimes you won't~ tounge.gif

I tried it and DL'ing wmp11 from the microsoft website via my PS3 and said

something along the lines of "selecting a DL destination" So I assume you

cant save it to the hard disk, right?

So I inserted a SD chip into the PS3 and downloaded wmp11. That worked but

I cant seem to find it and install it at all. Even after searching for media.

Am I missing something?

I am a self proclaimed nooB when it comes to computers and sh*t so it may very

well be something I need to make the guy at the computer shop do for me. whatsthat.gif

i assume you have a pc at home and have a router so your ps3 and computer are in a network and you have the media server enabled on your ps3.

1.download WMP 11 from the microsoft website if you dont have it

2.once its set up go to the little arrow below the "library" tab

3.once in the little arrow you are you will get some options and choose the media sharing option

4.once there WMP should read you ps3 as an unknown device and allow it.

5.choose the media you want to share, most likely all of it.

6.i had to restart my pc to get all the media to show up.

correct me or add steps if i missed them guys.
