I think it's about time Sony did a major update on the PS3. Something huge. Kind of like Microsoft did for their console. A new look for the XMB. As well as being able to join a friend's game from the XMB.

I've had some ideas lately. Like being able to display your own personal picture for an avatar. And when you sign in, it shows your picture on the top-right corner with your name as well of course. Or maybe just some new avatars. I don't know.

Seems kind of dull at the moment.

I know they released Home, but that was just a complete utter fail. I wouldn't understand how someone could get into it to save my life.

I just want something new, fresh, amazing, cool, ect.

(That idea Microsoft made which allows you to create your own little guy for online, I think, is brilliant)

Well, that "brilliant idea" was taken right from Nintendo. I think the PS3 is refined and sophisticated just like I like it. Xbox 360 is for people who don't give a sh*t, and Wii is for people who like to flail.

I also ordered Far Cry 2 on amazon for 36 bucks. Not a bad deal. Looks like a great game. Also ordered another DualShock 3 while I was at it.

360's actually have a lot of cool things in the whole online experience, like talking to people in chat parties when you are all playing different games and blocking out the ingame chat people are using, and i don't get why Sony haven't allowed you to use the Home avatars as your actual PSN avatar, much like on the Wii or 360, as there are hardly any avatars to use on PSN.

But i am not at all saying the PlayStation online experience is crap, just needs a slight revamp.

I agree with Gezim, the PS3 needs something new. As already stated, Home was a complete fail. Its like Second Life for your PS3. The feature I would want the most is that one where me and my friends can chat while playing different games, just like the Xbox. When I first got my PS3 I was surprised to find that it didn't already have this feature.

Looking forward to "The Godfather 2." Too bad it was put back a few weeks.

I think its because Sony is resistant and doesn't want to give into the pressure of conforming to the Xbox and Wii. Although I think the eventually will. Sales are a-falling once again.

most of the world is in a recession right now, do you expect sales for the ps3 to rise? most people arent gonna drop 400 buck on a gaming console these days.

I think the last thing to PS3 needs is another overhaul, it is fine the way it is. I hate it how you have to download the updates before you can play online.

Case in point, that update recently for the photo album was something like 140mb, that was all that was different from the previous version, yet Sony includes every single prior update in the download for people just getting their first patch. How f*cking stupid is that.

I don't want my HDD cluttered up with useless updates, they should have options when you download them to get rid of the crap.

That's why I have both consoles, so I will never miss out on exclusives!  smile.gif

I'm with you there, because if there is a game i'd like on one console, i'm pretty sure i can get it some where down the line.

I have all three, I just play my PS3 a lot more than I play my 360 now. And my wii is just a HD Gamecube, it's collecting HD dust.

The Wii doesn't do HD.

I was jus making a figure of speech, IDK whether it does HD or not nor do i care, all I know is the graphics on the wii are slightly better than the Game Cubes, so for the Wii compared to the Game Cube I guess it is HD being that it does have better graphics than its predecessor.

And I was sayin that to be funny, lol. My Game Cube collected a lot of dust, and now my Wii is,

so since the Wii is new and "better" than the game cube the Wii is collecting better dust.

Cant wait for Uncharted 2 and GOW 3.

@ Gezim- Knowing Sony there plotting something extraordinary for there XMB menu.

Sh!t Sony invented the XMB, what makes you think they cant think of something even crazier.

Idk why Xbox doesn't have SYNC software yet lol (MAYBE there would be too many voices in a gaming enviorment IDK lol)Sony needs to start making computer SOFTWARE. If Sony can make brilliant hardware like the PS3, I know they can make software operating systems and graphical user interfaces. I see it like this , if Microsoft has enough balls to encroach the gaming market(nothing to lose), then someone from the gaming market has to get balls and hop into the Computer market, and I see that being Sony

Alright then, does anyone know if you can use a External Hard drive to save game installation on? and stuff like Home?

No you can't. I think Sony didn't want to make it any easier for people to pirate games, you can copy your save files though.

It's funny because I'm hearing so many people say they've barely tapped the PS3's potential. Now, I don't know if they were talking about game developers or just Sony itself. Meh, either way, I'm hoping something good for 2009. Lets just see what this year brings us.

I took away Killzone 2 because it's out in six days. And I typed the games I think are important, in big font. Also, I forgot all about Getaway and that it's canceled. Looked promising. sad.gif Also even Eight Days. I heard they were both canceled for monetary reasons. Oh well, maybe we'll see them in a couple more years.

Well, I've just promised my self [again] that I'm on my last pack of cigs, and I've just put my first £10 into my PS3 savings tin wink.gif . In £290's time I should hopefully have one.

I'm most probably going to be getting an 80GB PAL PS3. What do you guys reckon? Good idea or get a different size? I mean, 80GB is f*cking loads to me, I never used up the 13GB space I had with the 360 until it f*cked up tounge.gif

Hmm. I'd say get the 40GB. It's cheaper, and according to you, you don't use up much space.

I have an 80GB, and I have like 25GB of free space. I have a lot of demos, several videos and 50 or something songs on my PS3.

That doesn't really make much sense seeing as you still need the disk to play it.

Okay guys, I've done a bit of looking around, and I've found out the 80GB no longer comes with memory card slots and chrome finish, etc. I was told by a friend that Sony have been slowly stripping these things out of the 80GB model, and another source said that 80GB's are now made as 40GB's just with a bigger HDD, so I've come here to see if you could help.

Could I not just buy a 40GB PS3, and buy a seperate 2.5inch 160GB HDD and replace it with the 40GB HDD? Would it work or not?

Thanks fellas.

If you are gonna buy a 40GB, but want bigger space by buying a HDD compitable(BLEH) with the PS3 then go for it smile.gif

I doubt Gran Turismo 5 will make it in 09, as much as I'd love it as I am getting sick of GT5 Prologue's limited and boring tracks.

it will work just like that and it takes like 3 or 4 minutes to do too. make sure to buy a 2.5' SATA HDD 5400RPM(standard laptop drive)just be sure to copy all your saves on a usb.

What makes you think that?

The only thing I want in the new one is the cars to sound a little better and different. Also, expect car damage to be featured.

It doesn't have to be a SATA. I bought a 320gb Western Digital 7200rpm HDD. It works just fine. I think it has to have the SATA approved sticker on it if you buy a Seagate model.

if you want it to go inside the ps3, then yes you do want it to be SATA 2.5in otherwise any regular HDD will work.

From Slashdot.

At the end of the day it's just a multi-processor architecture. If you can get something running on eight threads of a PC CPU, you can get it running on eight processors on a PS3 - it's not massively different. There is a small 'gotcha' in there though. The main processor can access all the machine's video memory, but each of the seven SPE chips has access only to its own 256k of onboard memory - so if you have, say, a big mesh to process, it'll be necessary to stream it through a small amount of memory - you'd have to DMA it up to your cell chip and then process a little chunk, then DMA the next chunk, so you won't be able to jump around the memory as easily, which I guess you will be able to do on the Xbox 360.

I remember reading an interview with Sam Houser stating that they and most of the industry, since about the time of GTAIV's release are becoming a lot more comfortable and familiar with the PS3 design and yes, it is a better environment to work in than other consoles, albeit more tricky to master.

Yeah, I've been understanding that since I owned one. They're learning more about it and how it works.

Basically, the thing is a huge powerhouse.
