Unlocking vehicle upgrades. Flawed system?

Its ridiculous to earn upgrades legitimate.

To win upgrades you have to win races to win races you need to upgrade cars. Its dumb imo and hardly anyone races customs off so you get a lvl 10 noob in with lvl 100 full upgrades people

Host the races yourself then... Turn customs off and start it before you've got too many people in the lobby. Host a track that you've learned the lines on. It's been the same for everyone.

Just because this comes up a lot I want to be clear:

You need to win 50 races to unlock every upgrade, period. They could be any race in any class. If you make a new character and drive an Issi to the p&s it will say "You must win 44 races in this class to unlock this item" and if you drove in a supercar it would say "You must win 50 races in this class to unlock this item."

What they mean is all cars in the Issi class require only 44 while all supercars require 50.

It's just poorly worded and it's always been this way since day 1. I double checked this with my second character.

There is no question that the current "system" is totally useless.

All it does is force players to game the game to get wins, it needs changing because it simply does not work..

The OP idea is a lot better... and works..

This not make sense to anyone else? No offense mate... maybe me being slow.

Yes discussion is quite late we all agree the current system does not give a true indication of racing ability, especially considering those who quit to protect their ratio (strange behaviour)

So, anyone confirm the old class unlock thing for definite? I though they made it class specific and did think that was harsh.

Anyhow for noobs or new characters yes hosting races set to stock and against 2 or 3 others only makes sense, for progression and also logicallu in the game world. If u want to compete in the big super races, you gotta earn your stripes first.

And after one year later, I still haven't unlocked everything.

I keep losing to:

- chumps with fully modded cars, who can drive or suck at driving but fast enough to ram my car away

- hosts who obviously keep playing that track until he knows everything about the track

- trainwreck content creator objects

I only won a few times and it's because the other guy screwed up in the middle of the track and gone too far to catch up.

I think budcat's point is pretty clear, different classes have different win thresholds to earn upgrades, super being the most 'expensive' with 50 wins in any class.

Another class with a lower win threshold will show up as needing less wins at any given point in your racing career.

As it is now, players have to flat out win to gain progress toward the next upgrade. I believe this is a fail.

I gave it some thought, and I believe a system in which you gain a progressive amount of points for higher finishes, less points for lower finishes, but points regardless for a finished race.

An example of this system, let's assume a 10 player race. The winner receives 10 points, 2nd gets 9, and so on, last place gets 1 point.

How does a 2 player race work? Winner receives 10 points, 2nd gets 1 point.

3 player race? winner gets 10 points, 3rd gets 1, 2nd gets 2, you probably get the idea, I think this is a better system, one that progresses regardless of the race skill of the player, albeit very slowly if you constantly finish poorly.

Assuming 10 points for a win, you would need 400 points to fully mod a vehicle. That equates to 40 wins, or 400 last place finishes, and everything in between.

I know you can just trade wins with a friend, which is what I did, however, that is a boring grind, and I think it would be far more rewarding to earn it even if it took a little longer.

Thoughts?

keep it how it is i unlocked every upgrade the second week gta came out and never had to do a race again so stop crying

Glockinmypocket

I've thought that system was bad since day one.

Guns I understand a lock on, but I shouldn't have to get to level 80 to unlock a bumper lol

Jerking For Soup

You could ask a friend to trade wins or you could buy a Zen.

They don't even need to do a points system, and I think it'd be too complicated for the chimps who handle GTA:Online (even though I think it would be a good system).

All they really need to do is divide the unlockables between rank unlocks, race participation unlocks, and race win unlocks.

Turbo could unlock after x races played

Engine 1, 2, 3 and 4 could unlock via rank, races played, rank, and, then race wins respectively.

etc.

Those of you who don't have/don't use performance mods are peasants ha…. This game is bad enough that I couldn't imagine playing without the upgrades.

You got it. Your explanation is clearer. My point was to dispel the notion that you need 50 wins in each class and specifically the "supercars count towards everything" myth that goes around.

I think that's a big part of the problem in finding only supercar races.

Learn to drive!

It's unbelievable how bad some players drive.

one lap "Hit the Apex"

1st 4:46min ( this isn't a good time)

2nd 5:26min

10th over 6min

11th-13th dnf

I unlocked the upgrades for my 2nd character after 80 races or so and I joined only random races. A low level plays normally against other low levels.

- avoid crashing

- don't be the 1st before the 1st corner, stay behind; the dirty drivers will crash

- use the brakes

- host a race with forced cars

- learn the track

- use motorcycles(Bati or Akuma) and make wheelies; most players suck with motorcycles

- avoid ramps when you can; jumping is slower than staying on the road
