How do you promote a Youtube channel?

Recommended Posts

I created a Youtube channel dedicated to movie facts and trivias. Everything is done, but I have some questions to be answered: what's the best way to promote it and gain audiences?

Word of mouth. This is the undisputed BEST way to get your channel out there. Tell a friend at work you made a YT channel and you think they might like it. Try doing this with family members as well, you never know, they might enjoy it too.

Also, DON'T ADVERTISE ON OTHERS VIDEOS IN THE COMMENTS SECTION! This is the single most annoying way of getting your channel out there. You'll soon become known as "The advertising spammer spamming his sh*tty videos." No matter how great your videos are.

Also, does Youtube/Google encourage movies/tv channels?

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Kind of. If you're just doing movie/TV trivia then of course you'll be encouraged. It's only the ones that reupload movies and shows (and profit from it) that get taken down super quick.

Also, your channel sounds interesting, as advertising your channel on here isn't allowed, make PM me a link so I can have a look

I agree with the above, it also helps to do something a bit unique with it rather than copying one hundred and one other channels. For the sake of avoiding any doubt, we don't tolerate promotion of personal YouTube channels on the forum- it falls under the "no advertising" rules. You're free to refer to it in your signature and profile but don't post about it- though asking a question like this one is fine.

I would also normally say "keep questions to the 'have a question' topic" but I'll leave this here for now.

upload what is hot that week. let's say a new movie is so hot right now it's breaking youtube. everyone is searching that movie on youtube right? watch these trends and make videos about those new-hot things on youtube. that's one way to attract viewers to your channel. (but while doing this please don't forget to do quality content)

The best way is to come with good content from the start, not just content but the whole branding, captions, thumbnail images, banner and intro. Do this right from the start and you'll be at a great advantage. A lot channels bring this stuff in later but by then you've already lost potential subscribers due to lack of professional identification on the channel, they're potential subscribers you might not ever convince to subscribe because they remember how poor their first experience with your channel was. It also brings word of mouth subscribers sooner rather than later and this snowballs, next thing you know you have 100, 1000, 10000, 50000 and so on subscribers.

Damn.. I should really start a YouTube channel.

Spamming the comments is the worst way of advertising your channel. One way I like so much is the personal PMs. Once I posted a comment that I'm not big fan of gameplay with annoying commentary. Someone read it and sent me a PM that his channel features gameplay for all games with no commentary. I subscribed (he had like 27 subs). A few months later and he has more than 6000 and started his t-shirt thing :D

You need to work hard my friend and be very patient. Twitter also is a crazy place, in most cases, when you follow someone infamous, they will follow you back and subscribe to your Youtube channel if you put the link in your page.

Don't forget to post link to your channel here and we will subscribe!
