Digital or Disc?

  1. 1. Which version will you get?

what's all this about 2 hour installs?

are you talking next gen or what?

Xbox one will prob take about 2 hours to install a game the size of GTA V.

Ps4 however not even close to as long

Digital because of playing the game right away when its the 18. I would usually go disc because of new game smell but just want to play GTA on next gen right away. :colgate:

Don't know if this was posted or not but GTA V on PSN is open to be played at 12 AM EST!

I think I finally am convinced I'm just going to go digital. With the earlier release time and not having to go to the store and wait in line at 12 am when I work the next morning, then install it, then update it, the convenience is just so much better. I'd also really rather not fumble with getting out of my chair to change disc when switching games, yup lazy American, and really think I will enjoy that convenience enough to justify losing it's resale cost. Then, I also plan on owning this console a very long time which by the time I go to sell it I imagine GTA V won't be worth more than a $1 anyways.

Oh and I used this promo code CPLAY10 on Ebay and saved $10 on a PSN game card so I'm getting GTA V for $10 cheaper than buying it in store. See this link for details.

So I'm switching my vote to digital.

I'm trying to use all my XBL currency before I use my CC so I bought it digitally. And I'm actually kinda glad. So now when it comes out officially for me @ 3am EST, I can play immediately instead of waiting for it to download.

disk anyday, cause if it brakes then i can replace it (mean its only £40) if you go digital then your putting faith on your console to remain intact.

Disc, can trade it in (although that likely won't happen) and I also like owning the game and adding it to my personal collection. Digital never feels like I actually own it.

I pre-ordered my disc from gamestop last week but I'm going back to get a refund and pre-order the digital considering you can pre-download, extra cash, and I almost forgot how unorganized gamestop was at last years midnight release. I was lucky though because they gave out the CE and SE versions first, me and one other guy had ordered the CE so we got out first lol.

Exactly what i did, i went to my gamestop and canceled my order and use that money plus some extra to buy $60 worth of MSP to buy it digital :p.

A little off topic but

How much do you think a ps3 slim will sell for?

I'm trying to fix my old ps3 slim (as I already have another one) so I can sell it and buy the digital version?

Due to the size of the game and the fact the console has many years to last me I want to be able to install-uninstall whenever I like, I would feel restricted if wanting to free up some HDD space I would have to download the entire thing again later. I highly doubt the limited HDD space of the console is gonna last this generations life span so I don't want to jump on the digital bandwagon just yet.

I voted disc. I don't want to download a 40 gig plus file.

I was feeling the same way, but i rather have it digital. Didn't feel like going to gamestop.

tl;dr

...has anyone mentioned that digital owners NEVER REALLY OWN the game, you are only guaranteed a copy for as long as the PS4/One store is open AND carrying the game...once the PS4/One store shuts down, you can NO LONGER re-download the game, the only way you can continue to play is if your "digital copy" remains on your system forever

Well I've had my Xbox One a week and its already 25% full! So no way its gonna last the 5 year life cycle or however long this generation will be. Not forgetting all the apps, movies and updates that will all add up too. Games free with Gold anyone? once you delete those you cannot get them again for free I believe so there is no way it will last me.

Aren't you putting faith on an intact console anyways?

I mean...a broken console is a broken console...if it won't play a HDD game...it won't play a game disk. And digital copies are free to redownload on your profile.

Don't get me wrong, there are many good reasons to choose disk..personally, I like the case in my shelf, but I don't think "reliability" is a flyable one.

It's all about preference...there really isn't one better than the other. I was all disc, till I cancelled my gamestop preorder and went digital. Only because my alternator went out and don't feel like running the risk...lol

Disc you can have, but on the ps4(my console) you have to install the games regardless. So I only see the plus in that you can trade. But after all the wait so it's really gonna trade this breast in?...lol.

Digital...it's preloaded...and on your hdd...no need to swap discs. And if anything gets corrupt or lost, just redownload from the store or marketplace.

Any f*cks up, whether digital or disc, will be fixed with a patch, for all those that got a snide comment for eITHER.. lol

I have a question

For ps4 I heard about how it supports used games , is it true that you only need to use the disc once, then you can just give it away? I remember them saying that, but I wanna make sure it's true

I may be out by the best buy tonight and i'm thinking about returning my preorder and just buyimg the game digitally. Decisions decisions. I'd love to not have to throw the disc in all the time. Do they sell dlc cards at best buy anymore? I'd have to use the trade in credit at bb.

What do you mean?...if it's too play a game, you need the Disc. You can borrow other people's games, but I would hope the x1 does this as well not just ps4.

if you only look at it in the perspective of 1 game then you wont look at it the way i do, but if you have a collection of 10 or 20 digtial games on the console and it brakes that is like £700 if you go for phyiscal then you wont have to pray for your console.

Digital purchases are one-time purchase, unlimited download. You don't have to pay for them each time you download them, whereareas should a disk break, you have to pay for a new disk.

That means if you have 10-20 digital games and the console goes caput, you only have to purchase the 400€ (I think it's 300£) console. This is something that would affect both disk and digital owners. Only thing you have to concern yourself with it is taking the time to redownload everything. (Thank you 100mb internet!)

This will probably be the only game that I have as digital on my PS4...why?

Because I won't have to constantly pull the disc in and out...when it was in my PS3 it stayed there and I forsook all other games, so I didn't mind just constantly having it in the drive...ready.

Now, I have Tomb Raider, COD: Advanced Warefare...I'm going to get The Last of Us remastered...and who knows what else down the line...

I know that I won't play those games with anywhere near the frequency I play GTA...but I also don't have to worry about swapping out discs every five seconds.

As for the, "you don't really own it" If you read any of the draconian EULAs we all agree to when we play in game of late, you don't really own it in disc form either.

As for the, "The download is only going to be there as long as PSN is in existence.." Yeah? So?

PS3 is a 9 to 10 year old machine...I can STILL download my downloadable content from there. The information isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

As for the, "Your game will be unplayable if your console dies." And so will all my disc games too.

I have no illusions that the game runs faster being on the hard drive versus having to check the validity with a disc...I HOPE that's the case. If it is, that's just another plus.

I'm starting to think about canceling my pre-order at Walmart and going digital after some of the things I've seen in this topic.

Disc. Only because 50gb would take a week on my broadband router which hardly gives 3mbp of upload and download speeds....
