Digital or Disc?

Disc.

Would never consider digital while I can pick up physical copies for almost £15-20 cheaper than digital games. Think the digital version is £54.99 on PS4, whereas I paid £32 for the disc version (with a £10 off code).

Plus I can sell it if I get bored. Same with Fifa, always disc, never digital.

disc flaw :

~ can easily damaged ( if completely broken , u have buy another one ) but makes up for additional benefits ( such as maps , while other are exclusive for special/collector edition )

digital flaw :

~ streaming / delayed texture popup/loading ( this is especially problematic if player pilot a plane and then crashed to the slow-popup tree ) but makes up for infinite download

~ cutscene issues

But um... you're making comparison on a ten year old system running a digital download...

& shxt us digital folks a be done with the story mode by time you physical heads get a hold of it...

while you other guys are staring at the UPS/FED EX/ tracking to change from in transit to delivered :panic::facedesk:

All of my Xbox One games have been digital. For a few reasons:

My X1 is on a shelf hanging from the ceiling with my projector so it's way less hassle to switch games

The convenience of switching games with just a few button presses

The lack of ability to get the disc scratched/cracked

I save all my games directly to my external HD instead of my X1's HD so changing consoles isn't an issue

I also don't trade in games. I have a pretty narrow selection of games I play that hold my attention more than long enough. I think once I traded in Forza 2 and 3 so I could get 4 but that's it.

I thought about getting a digital copy but the price and restrictions still haven't convinced me to not stay with a disc. In the future I want to be able to sell the game when I sell the system and not end up with a $60 piece of code I can't use if the new system won't be "backwards compatible." I've never understood why digital data isn't significantly cheaper than physical hardware. Look at redbox for example, $5 to rent a movie digitally or a $1 to drive and pick up a disc.

Considering that GTAV will likely make you download the disc content to your hard drive anyway... Digital.

Also to the people saying that bought GTAIV on digital and it took forever blah blah blah... wake up, that sh*t was like 10 years ago. Hopefully you've upgraded your internet connection since then.

You really have no idea that in most of the world there is no option to buy 100 mbit internet no matter how much money you have. It's physically impossible to have more than 20meg here and where I live and that's a much faster link that most the rest of the population in my area are able to get. I'm lucky to have those speeds. I also have a limit of 50gig per month and GTA V would take all of that. Plus the digital version costs 20 dollars more..

My connection is 20m down / 10m up. Thats plenty fast to download the game and download cost $60, same as disc. Lotta bad information in that post. Maybe a fact check next time.

Why would the digital copy be significantly less? Discs are worthless. It the company more in storage/bandwidth to provide a digital copy and its endlessly more convenient for the user. When companies like redbox/netflix started going digital the price was less, that was like a promotion to get people to see how great it was. Now that everyone wants to go digital they can raise the price, because it worth more. Follow?

Definitely digital, due to games being installed on the hard drive from the disc, There's essentially no difference, the disc is pretty much just a verification method now.. (At least on PS4)

PC Disc

Would love to buy a disc (for PC), but have been using digital so long am out of the loop that I'm rather clueless on how/what patches are like when updating manually? (last disc-based game I bought was Crysis). lol

Could someone elaborate on what GTA V content/updates from R* are like as opposed to Steam? I know you don't get the Steam achievements, but I could care less about that...convince me, and I might just go disc instead of Steam. :)

I'm going digital. Digital owners get more exclusives then disc owners usually. Plus I don't have to worry about not losing the disc because I'm not good at organizing. Plus with the pre-load feature and high speed internet I'll be ready at launch.

Will you be going classic and going with the disc, or will you go digital? Im personally going to go digital so i can have it ready by the 18th. Not only that but It eliminates the risk of the disc breaking/scratching since its digital! So, which way will you go and why? :beerhat:

Too risky,if my HDD burns down or any other error happens,I have to go with the disc,it also has the special feeling of OWNING the game, pretty boxart too :>

Digital. Same price as in the store so why not. Also I only play2 games, FIFA 15 which is on a disc so I wont have to bother changing discs

No idea why would you ever buy a digital download. It gives me a feeling like I would be paying for pirated game. Plus you don't really own it since you can't even selli t.

2 things:

Paying for a pirated game = buying the game. Paying for and pirated are somewhat contradictory

Also, even if you buy the disc, you still don't own it.

Uhh.. I got both ( smh.. )

My wife pre-ordered it (physical copy) trying to surprise me because I kept buggn' about how it wasn't on the XBOX ONE marketplace to download, but they had it promoted all over the 360 dashboard for a physical copy via retailer..

(keep in mind she still hasn't told me she did this)

I finally see it pop up yesterday when I checked it and IMMEDIATELY purchased it and went to tell my wife they finally put it up, she pulls out her iPhone and shows me the receipt for the game....

* it was at this moment, my wife knew..... she fu*ked up *

Or simply take the pre-order and exchange it for credit/a different game.

What do digital 'owners' get that people who actually own a physical copy of a game don't get?

You seriously lose $60 discs? WTF, are you that daft? Or wait, you simply don't care about things, because it's not like you earned the money to buy anything, that's what you have mommy and daddy for, right?

True, and the 5400 rpm HDD's in the two new systems are 1990's technology. Why not upgrade to a SSD?

Disc. Anyone that doesn't is a fool.

Why? I thought digital copies stored on the console meant faster loading times?? I've always got the disc for GTA since I like the posters/ maps that come with the instructions.

What happens when the data gets corrupted? What happens when your PS3 fails? What happens when the hard drive fails? What if you have an original 2006 PS3 that's sucking down Geritol? Not to mention you can never sell the digital copy. So if you're in a bind and wanna sell that $50 game you just bought 4 months ago...tough luck.

Kids will argue about everything, because their parents force them to choose.

PS: I am a collector, so discs and cartridges are guaranteed.

I like having physical copies of games generally :)

Probably going digital for the same reason as you. A few years back, I had GTA IV on disc since release and one day it stopped working. It was only £20 on amazon so I bought it again but when it arrived, it had the same problem. I tried another game and it worked so I knew it wasn't the xbox but still pissed off. I ended up buying it digital and since then, it's always been digital. Yes, it might be more expensive but it is definitely more practical for me. It takes away the possibilty of losing, scratching or in my case, a crazy ex girlfriend breaking a disc during an argument.

Xbox marketplace prices games like a million dorrar more than they are.

Gta V is still £60 on marketplace and that's for the 360 version. In game it's like £24 last I checked.

Plus discs are cool.
