Digital or Disc?

  1. 1. Which version will you get?

They both fully install on the drive on PS4.

Are you sure? Can you provide a source, I'm curious. Typically, a Playstation-installed disc only has the game unpackage certain assets of the game to ease up overall stress when loading those assets in-game, I've never heard that the entire game and all its assets get installed. Then, why would we even need the disc to play?

This might help you with some of your questions

Digital all the way..

Means I can stay up and get baked and play it at midnight... then wake and bake early and continue playing since I'll have the day off.

Disc because I prefer physical games and because my internet would probably snap in half if it tried to download a 50gb game it struggles with like 4 gb digital games...

so far in my years of gaming in consoles i have only bough 1 digital game and it was San Andrea on ps3.

all my game are phisical copies.

Dude, me too. I have San Andreas on my PS3 but I still have my original PS2 disc as well. It's the only digital download I have.

Discs all the way. I need to own something tangible that I can hold in my hand. If console gaming ever goes all digital, I'm out.

I always buy discs, and that's what I'll continue to do. There are a couple of advantages I can think of.

It's possible (and happens often) that the game is delivered early. The website I buy from has a history of delivering games at least 1 day before release. GTAIV was delivered a few days early, so you can imagine I stick with this company. Release day is the latest I've had - never had a late delivery.

Also, when I've had enough of the game I can trade it in. I don't do this often but there was a spot a few years back where finances went tits-up and I had a collection of nearly 100 games, of which I only played about 5. I sold about 80 of them and was able to eat for the rest of that month.

Anyway, both ways have their pros and cons and the above advantages have nothing to do with why I buy discs. Digital versions of games didn't exist when I started gaming, so I think it's probably just a childhood habit that I still keep, more than anything else. I dread to think how many C90s I'd need to play GTAV!

Edit: The geek in me worked out that it would be approximately 17,000,000,000 (seventeen thousand million) C90 tapes to hold the current version of GTA V, and would take just under 3,000,000 years to load (based on Spectrum data storage and loading times). All these figures are rough, but :O

You say that now.. but I was the same with music until I realised I could have 100x the amount of music I previously had..

of course, all legitimately qcquired. *cough* *splutter*

@elfoam

oh , and uhh.... slow download due to it's size ( it even bigger than previous gen , as with graphics , improved textures , more animal breeds , etc )

Going with a physical copy. I will always go with a disc if possible. Old habits i suppose. I only have one digital game wich is TLOU, and only because it came with my PS4.

if it was FIFA definitely disc, nothing like that snapping sound of plastic after being beaten 7-0 by a trash talking 9 year old

Disc. Anyone that doesn't is a fool.

Why? I thought digital copies stored on the console meant faster loading times?? I've always got the disc for GTA since I like the posters/ maps that come with the instructions.

Disc. Reasons: all of the above.

But the game image will be loaded onto the hard drive, eh? That means R* will be able to fix wall breaches, unlike the PS3 where the map was on the read-only DVD. Damn. I mean, GREAT!!!

Disc because I like having a physical copy, but it's making me nervous because there is a possibility that:

a) The online store I ordered it from will f*ck it up. Not likely because they've been solid so far but you never know.

b) The Swedish postal service will f*ck it up. More likely than A but it should be fine.

c) All of the above.

If I don't have the game on release day I will be seriously pissed off. It's the only day of the week when I can get home early from work and sleep in the day after.

In the unlikely event I am able to afford a PSBONE (different systems, same use....meh), I would buy disc because new game smell. Oh yeah, new games are rip-offs so prob pre-owned for me :(

As mentioned above the PS4 has a forced full install to hard drive from bluray on all games for increased performance. It doesn't read from the disc.

Im getting a physical copy. For starters the physical copy is a lot cheaper than the digital copy for some stupid reason here in Aus. Secondly it will allow me to take the game and use it on another console with no issues. Thirdly I can't trade in digital copies at a later stage.

If a digital copy was available at a decent price I would probably consider it however.

this, it makes no sense for digital copies to be more expensive than a physical disc

not only do they save on the obvious costs of packaging and shipping, they're basically cutting out the middle man as well

so why the f*ck should you pay the same, let alone more for a digital copy?

Sony likes to count money :). Actually the real reason would be a cut for Sony Australia to pay their employees. Edited by elfoam

That - they're not cutting out the middle man at all.

Disc

After how awful digital version of GTA V was on PS3, I'm definitely not taking that risk on PS4. (even if apparently there is little to no difference with how it is installed to the HDD, didn't know that when I pre-ordered so meh)

Also, had a bad experience with The Last of Us digital where the game took forever to download even though I have ridiculous internet speed. Even with pre-loading I still don't trust it.

Oh, and it's always nice to see the weirdo's and dudebro's at walmart at midnight picking up the game.
