Upgrading my gaming PC!

I had wanted to go into PC gaming for awhile but since I lacked the knowledge on how to build a PC I bought an Alienware x51.
With next gen gaming right around the corner I want to upgrade my PC so I can start playing some next gen titles at decent settings.

Here are my specs!

Processor: Intel® Core i3-4150 CPU @ 3.50GHz
Video Card 1: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745
Video Card 2: Intel® HD Graphics 4400
Memory: 6.1 GB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (build 9200), 64-bit

What should I start upgrading first? I'm not looking to sink hundreds of dollars to make a computer with the power of a 8th gen console

but something that wont have me needing to run a next gen title like GTA V, AC Unity, or Advanced Warfare on low settings.

PS: Am I in the right place on the forums for asking about this kind of thing?

Alienware? :miranda:

Upgrade the CPU first. If you can, upgrade to a Core i5 model since most people use it for gaming. After that, definitely upgrade the GPU - since it's an Alienware PC, you most likely paid too much for a low end PC with a terrible GPU.

Your RAM is fine. In the future, I would suggest 4GB x 2 sticks so you get a full 8GB.

Is there any i5 cores that you recommend? I have a LGA1155 socket.

The Intel Core i5-3470 gets a lot of great reviews, it seems. Another alternative would be the i5-2500K (if you want to over clock)

Would I be able to survive a game at great settings for now if I only upgrade my CPU? I wont have a lot of money leftover for a new GPU, or will my current GPU hold me back?

I'm not entirely sure. You said you wanted to play GTA V, but the PC requirements have not been released yet. AC Unity and Advanced Warfare require a lot just to play it on minimum.

Neither of those i5 will fit the mobo. The OP has LGA1150 mobo, i5-3470/2500k are LGA1155.

ANyway, IMHO GPU should be first to upgrade. GTX745 is pathetic.

Why didn't you asked for help first instead buying the piece of crap pre-build PC from overpriced Alienware??

You could have build a much cheaper and much more powerfull PC with really good hardware.

An i3? A GTX745?? Seriously?? The first problem when upgrading the GPU is your PSU. Almost any PSU in pre-build PC's are absolute crap.
