Cool/not so cool concept cars

call me an idiot, but I love the styling of the PT cruiser

Well, I sort of dig the HHR exterior which also had a retro vibe. Seems like it's not a too popular opinion but to each his own I guess.

My friend's dad has a white HHR and they both call it "the milk van" because it looks like an old panel van milk truck.

I'm guessing it wasn't the panel van version of it, eh?

Nope, we talked on numerous occasions about how he should've gotten the panel van version so it would've looked more like a milk van, haha.

One of my favorites,The Audi Quattro Spyder concept from 1991,or can be sometimes referred as the R8 of the 90's.

Volvo Tundra (1979) by Bertone.

Though as a replacement for the Volvo 340. Apparently, its design was way too modern and not too Swedish for Volvo so it got scrapped and sold to Citroen, which turned it into the BX with ts cool hydraulic suspension.

It has some pretty cool dashboard that it's worth a mention in the dashboard thread, I like how the grille is set in the right side under the bumper.

1965 Giugaro Mustang by Bertone.

This European styled Mustang prototype was succesfully showcased at the 1965 New York Auto Show, winning the car of the show award. Assembled after the chasis of the original Mustang, it featured, among other, hidden headlamps behind the grille. Its fate is unknown and hasn't been seen again since then.

This strongly reminds me of the Iso Grifo.

Well, Giorgetto Giugiaro was behind the design of both cars. In some way it also reminds me to the Rondine Corvette concept.

Alright dudes, next one seems to have come from some kind of retro-futuristic dystopia, the 1980 Citroen Karin.

It was a styling test with the objective of searching for new shapes, hence it wasn't driveable but a simple display model made for the 1980 Paris Motor Show.

Pyramidal shape, butterfly doors and three seats displayed in a single row, with the driver one set in the middle, were some of the proposals for the future by this concept car designed by Trevor Fiore.

^That seat configuration is actually a pretty cool idea, I'd want something like that, haha. It would be pretty bothersome in anything but an automatic though if you had any passengers.

Ah, the good old days, when Citroën's motto was "You know what? f*ck that sh*t let's just do something else"

Hot

Not

Pontiac Banshee from the 80s.

Why did manufacturers in the 70s/80s think Hot Wheels was a good inspiration for design.

A Pontiac version of the Corvette would've been cool. It's like a Camaro/Firebird sort of thing, or Challenger/Cuda if you want to get into different makes.

But they did build the banshee, kinda. They used some of the cues of it on the last gen of Firebird.

Surprised no one has posted anything about the Buick Y Job, aka the first ever concept car.

And another 30s concept, well more of a prototype, the Phantom Corsair

And then there is this thing, the Alfa Romeo Bat 11

Yes, the steering column was moved forward to allow the driver seat.

That's actually pretty cool. I don't know how comfortable those seats would be but i could assume it would sorta feel like being in a 70's fighter jet.

Some concept cars that never made it to production:

Chrysler ME412:

Cadillac Cien:

I remember the ME412 from some racing game, maybe Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition? I also remember that the Cien was one of my go to cars on Gran Turismo 4 for quite a while.

Both the ME412 and Cien were in Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition Remix. Only the Cien was in Gran Turismo 4.

So it was MC3. I know I drove the ME412 there and not in GT because I remember it was arcadey, so obviously not Gran Turismo.

both Nardo and CIEN was in Gran Turismo and there are in the same tier, along with SLR, ZZ-II, Cerbera speed 12, and NSX LM Road car

I'm digging the "futuristic" 70s styling of the Volvo Tundra, Citroen Karin, and Dome Zero.
