The K/D ratio, the bane of every online game?

I'm pretty sure my K/D is super low, probably around .6 or .7 but it's not really a necessity. I play with only my friends 99% of the time, never play DM's cause I dislike them. I've been killed by my friends so many times when we just melee and have random explosion fights. It shouldn't tell you anything about a player unless it's around 3.00 then you know you're most likely dealing with an asshole.

And as I said a thread a long time ago, if you take the reciprocal of K/D it makes a lot more sense: Small D/K = small DIK :p

Surely someone who is just "defending himself" wouldn't be sitting at a 3.0 K/D unless he went looking for people to shoot at him, so he could smoke them.

That and going and finding people to shoot will end badly for most people as it means drive right in to a hot zone, meaning they'd be killed the second everyone in the "war zone" saw them come on the map.

Why, can't you you be smarter than the average asshole trying to kill you? Or maybe you get killed once (for no reason) and you return "the favour" multiple times, hence your high K/D ratio.

How many people do you think got their high K/D that way? 1%, compared to the 99% assholes that shoot random unsuspecting players

Well, i was trying to defend that 1%.

Anyways, yes, this stat is pointless in a non competitive section and should be removed from freeroam so the kd ratio boosters can go to hell.

I never read into peoples K/D ratios. I have a K/D of 18.21 and im sh*t at the game in general, mines only so high because i play the game purely to snipe.

In a game where you can die from EVERYTHING... A LOT. I don't think it matters, and I don't think anyone really pays that much attention to it besides try-hards. And those people are clearly unbalanced.

Here's what funny. Almost Every single person in this forum says KD ratio doesn't matter. Yet every session I join I hear players on the mic saying "check the KD ratio or wow his KD ratio is high". All the time.

Jerking For Soup

K/D is bad news in every game. Playing a video game is supposed to be fun, it is ridiculous how some play only to get their K/D up, killing people is fun within boundaries. Example: It's fun killing someone in GTAO 1 or 2 times without having to use a tank or a jet to do it. Griefing is not fun neither is using an unfair advantage to do so.

You know what else is funny? Anecdotal evidence isn't really evidence.

K/D means a lot to me.

If I ever go under 1.50, I can't join a specific crew.

sounds like that crew is full of cod nerds TBH

I Myself (having a high KD compared to most of what I seen in players that dont mod) dont care about it. Its high because I dont allow myself to be killed easily (mostly through passive mode exploiting) and I tend to avoid confrontations all together (reasoning behind my very low player kill count).

I dont participate in PvP- thats just boring

I dont rambo on dm, LTS, Capture, etc because that's begging to get killed

I do grief players, sometimes (usually starts when they shoot first, i kill them, and they keep coming back for more)

Even in shooters like Battlefield, I dont bother to check KD of myself or other players.

Put your K/D ratio on your resume and see if you can get a job because of a high ratio. If you do get a job or a girlfriend, yes, then it is important.

It is another trick of R* to waste a lot of ammo and money in freeroam. Same with unlockable gun colours.

I once let my avatars getting killed by friends to do them a favour. But that gets boring real quick. Some of my so called "friends" blew me up just for stat padding. I kicked them off my friends list on the spot.

Back in my Battlefield 2 days, stat padding happened all the time. It happens in GTA too. A lot of those high ratio's are inflated.

Tell that to the Call f Duty rejects that think it will.

Okay

How many people are playing online...and what percentage of those talk about KD. And of those talking what percentage of those affect you gameplay and to what degree?

I need numbers since we're talking facts and not just opinions.

I care about my ratio more than I would like to. I would prefer that I honestly didn't care less about it and could just throw myself into anything without giving it a second thought.

I have the highest ratio out of all of my friends which I like, but that satisfaction is more than balanced out by the fact that I think that caring about something like that is meaningless, and honestly kind of sad.

My K/D ratio is inflated too. But I'd rather have a high one than a low one. It doesn't have to mean anything, but believe it or not there are players in public sessions who check them out, and it can be to your advantage.

Since we are talking facts. Count everyone in this forum who has said KD doesn't matter.

Want to bet they say KD doesn't matter here but when they play the first thing they do is look at someone else's KD ? In every Kd thread I've seen on here I see several posts about people checking others KD but saying KD doesn't matter. If it didn't matter, why are you checking other gamers KD?

All I said was I've heard several (probably over hundreds now since I've been playing since launch day) of people on the mic talking about KD.

Yes. Def a Ton of players check it out. The amount of people I've read over many forums and heard on the mic greatly out weights the people who say KD doesn't matter.

Well, to be honest, somebody that maintains a good K/D and plays deathmatches exclusively is usually a valuable commodity in video games, especially in Battlefield where you're at a flag stalemate in Conquest. You need somebody to rip the opposite team's ticket count apart if the flags are well-defended and uncatchable.

If you don't care about a K/D ratio you shouldn't care whether someone else does.

Wrong. I had some guy kill me a few times when I was just walking around minding my own business. I asked him why he kept killing me and he said he wanted to increase his K/D ratio.

It encourages d-bag behavior.

It depends, in CoD it's important but in GTA it's another story. It's useless, it's funny how the kiddies go ape sh*t over this number. Maybe if it wasn't there people would behave more.

I honestly don't care about k/d, unlike skills it has non effect whatsoever on my gameplay. It's just a number I couldn't care less about.

Like you said, K/D doesn't mean anything, some people have K/Ds of 3 (thanks tank griefing) but they suck in DMs, I'm level 134 and I have a K/D of 0.90 (thanks tank griefing... again) and i'm doing good in DMs. So it's not an effective way to calculate skill.

I think KD is important in some cases. Anytime I see a KD of over 20 I automatically leave the session. Everytime I've seen a extremely high Kd like that it usually means that player is a cheater or modder. Checking KD def helps you find out quickly who some of the cheaters are.

Since playing on launch day I've never once come across a guy with a KD higher then 20 that wasn't cheating somehow.

K/D is meaningless in game where someone can go passive once their tank/jet gets destroyed. If you want to see people with high K/D's go to the bad sport lobbies with crews putting in tank shifts all day.

I don't understand why people care about K/D so much.

I mean, the game aims for you, for f*cks sake!
