The K/D ratio, the bane of every online game?

I've been thinking, how many online games have gone to hell in a hand-basket over some dumbass numbers that kids think is important to getting a job in the real world (it's what it seems like). How much better would GTAO be without a K/D ratio at all not even in deathmatchs, think maybe public would be at most bearable, or would be the same old Grand Theft Rooftop K/D Chrome Auto V Online that it is today. I think that K/D ratios should have never been a thing at all.

Uh, they make perfect sense in PFV combat shooters like CoD and Battlefield.

On GTA, not so much. Even without the KD ratio most people would still be hostile in Free Roam.

K/D means a lot to me.

If I ever go under 1.50, I can't join a specific crew.

I don't think K/D matters in any game. I think a W/L is more important in telling if a teammate is valuable.

I do not pay much attention to my Ratio K / D but it's pretty high, but I do not play for that because I'm not like some players who kill the first person they see! I play quiet without bothering anyone, for cons, if a player just piss me off, I will not have no choice but to take my revenge because it annoys me that these guys are bothering you when you're alone in your corner quiet and when you beat them, they put passive mode to protect their ratio K/D as a trophy.

that stat could literally give no indication on what kind of player someone is. Someone could go 30 and 1 every match they play and still have a negative W/L ratio due to having a sh*tty team.

alternatively, someone could go 1 and 30 every match and have a positive W/L ratio due to having a good team that does all the work.

I think it's important for the competitive game modes, but being able to stat-pad it within free roam is ridiculous. Griefers and general spawn killing would be reduced by a great margin if they kept it exclusively for game modes where it actually matters.

K/D belongs.... ESPECIALLY in a game like this. I like to look at mine now and then... but it means nothing, other than being neat.

I hate when online games don't keep track of your stats... even though 90% of them mean nothing, they are still neat to look at.

I hate how R* handled the races online and their stats. I hate how you either get a win (for finishing 1st) or a LOSS (for finishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th or 16th).

I wish R* had given an average finish in your stats.... to see, on average, what position you finish in. And then they can still keep the wins/loses as well.

Anyway, it's good that K/D is in the game. Besides, don't you think YOU'RE being a little immature, letting kids bother you like that??

It's kind of an ironic thread you created....

Why do you people care so much about whether someone cares about a K/D ratio? If you don't care about a K/D ratio you shouldn't care whether someone else does. You make it seem as if you're jealous or frustrated because you suck at the game yourself.

I don't think K/D ratios matter...but to remove the stat from the game? Why would I want to remove something I don't care about? I just overlook it...I don't think it degrades the game one iota. GTA is not set up as some skill match thing anyway. So...those who want to know what their K/D is can see it, and those that don't give a damn about it can overlook it.

This is a non-issue.

And yet, you display yours in your sig?

edit - looks like you have a sig line displaying randomn stats. My bad.

It was funny though, as I am reading your post I look down and I am like "wtf, doesn't care about K/D?!! it's right there on display!!!" lol too funny.

Carry on.

K/D says nothing in a game like GTAO. I can kill unsuspecting players all day and build up a bitchin' K/D, but will I be a skilled player? Nope. As long as your K/D is above 1, it's fine. That shows you can at least defend yourself. Any K/D above 2 just shows you probably are one of those pricks who kill people while they're shopping. Only a fraction of the players with a high K/D actually got that K/D by killing other skillful players face to face.

removed from freemode, would boost players in other jobs. I could see a benefit there.

you think people grief in freeroam with the sole purpose of boosting their KD ratio?

i dont think freeroam would change a bit even if kd was not a thing.

griefers would grief anyway, having a stat like Kd is just an added bonus!

No, just for the players who want a k/d boost. They would have to join jobs.

What's wrong with killing shoppers?

IMO it's not the K/D that drives us to be murderous asshats, it's the unlockables like weapon mods and skins.

It is a bit of a issue due to the 10 year old Call of Duty rejects that play this game who kick and spam anyone with a K/D below 10. It's so fu*king dumb that some dumbass numbers make you a great or really bad player. That and people take K/D ratio way to damn seriously to the point of it being on the level of World of Warcraft players (who I've have had a few former friends who became World of Warcraft players and you know what ended those friendships) Edited by SuzukiBlaze

The Troll matches you speak of might not have been a thing if there wasn't a K/D ratio in this game that never needed one.

yeah it was 0.8 - well within the "not givin a f*ck" K/D zone.

Well then you're getting into thought policing which, what's the point? You can't stop people from putting importance on things...the only actions you can control are you own. And if you don't find something important, you ignore it and move on.

This goes for racing stats...

K/D...

ETC...

And anyone that looks at my K/D and thinks they can get away with killing me...finds out soon enough that f*cking around with friends online...gives you a K/D like that...not having the inability to kill strangers.

Exactly. Most of the GTA0 population spend all their time going for cheap easy kills because it gives them a little ego trip, and there's nothing else to do in free-roam anyway.

If you asked them to calculate a ratio on anything else, such as number of hours they spend gaming per day divided by number of hours they spend studying per day, they would give you a blank stare and say, "Dude, what's a ratio?" :p

"Any K/D above 2 just shows you probably are one of those pricks who kill people while they're shopping. "

Not necessarily, I've maintained a k/d ratio above 2 for most of the time I've played GTAO; if it's gone up at all while in free-roam it's from defending myself against players who feel the need to try and kill me for no reason. Thankfully, the vast majority of Griefers in the game are as predictable as they come and don't realise that the back of the Zentorno isn't bulletproof when it comes to RPG's.

honestly, even if there wasnt a kd ratio in freeroam, there realy isnt much to do besides killing eachother :)

seriously, killing assholes that killed you is fun :)

getting owned less fun, but yea, what is gta freeroam beside a place with low payed activities and the opportunity to show of by either driving or expensive, rare, not much owned or favorit custom cars or showing off or killing abillities ?:)

I honestly don't care about k/d, unlike skills it has non effect whatsoever on my gameplay. It's just a number I couldn't care less about.
