Around the state race? Please help :)

Hello!

I searched everywhere for the great race mod, and found nothing. I'm dreaming of race around the whole state, and theres my question:
Do any of you guys know how to make such race to singleplayer? I found great CLEO mod with some races, where I can choose car, route, number of opponents, traffic density etc. (http://zazmahall.de/ZAZGTASANATORIUM/zazmoddat00100/N-RACES_gtasa-cleo.htm), but threr's no Around-the-State race in this mod... Is it possible to edit this mod? Of course I won't release it as mine MOD, I know, that it will be only modification of one of the greatest mod to GTA SA.
Please please guys, help me... I'm getting old :p

Yes, it's possible to edit this mod. Are you able to edit a cleoscript, to compile it and test it?

Easiest way is, to change the data of an existing route with this of your route

Problem: it's hard, maybe impossible, to force the opponent cars to drive your route

Unfortunately, I am not able to edit this script... I'm 26 years old, and I raised with GTA1 and GTA2, I can write some simple scripts to GTA2, but GTA SA is too much complicate for me :(.
All in all, if you think, that it is not possible to make opponents to drive correct way that I believe you... So, it seems my dream will never go true ;-)

FYI: I find PMs to be fairly annoying. My original irritation is getting lots of PMs from new users about stuff in which I've never shown any interest, but more recently I've been frustrated by collaborators preferring to consult in PM rather that posting in the open forums where everyone can find it.

Come on, Brine. Grow a little empathy. Did you consider how I or my collaborators might feel reading that private comment in the open forums? Generally I'm not so blunt but I've noticed that subtle hints on etiquette tend to get ignored by young teens. Something like, "give him a day and if he doesn't find the topic then send him an invite link in a PM" would have been more appropriate but if you really wanted to quote that same private message, how about:

 

IMHO - Proper PM Procedure for GTA Questions: Post the question in the open forums and if the experts don't notice within a day or so then send them a PM with a brief summary of the question and a link to the relevant post in the open forums.

 

 

@Courage. We can do this well enough to have some fun with it. The AI drivers are always terrible under normal conditions anyway so having them get lost isn't that big of a deal. I'd look for ways (checkpoints? timer?) to make the last place vehicle jump in just behind CJ so there's always a bit of a pursuit and whenever he makes a serious mistake there's a risk of being overtaken. However, I don't have any free time and won't for a few more weeks. You might be able to make good progress on your own. This isn't too tough of a task. Try it, get stuck and break things, then ask questions.

First of all, don't be mad at Brine, he had the best intentions, and I'm very thankfull for this :)
Now for the subject: Of course I've tried to make this race on my own. I downloaded CLEO mod, opened N-races with Sanny Builder, but when I saw 5860 lines of script I started to cry :p
Its crazy, its much more complicated than scripts in GTA2 ;p. My idea was to change coords of checkpoints in one of CLEOs race, to change the route, but I even don't know where I can find them :(.
What I want to achieve is a race in CLEO-mod-style (where I can choose my opponents, pick the number of AI cars and reduce traffic) around SA via checkpoints, without timer (timer sukcs in every game in the world ;P ). I even draw the map of my idea :)
So, what do you think? Is it possible to make it?
I know, you don't have time for it, and I understand that, theres no need to hurry :)

Don't worry. I'm not mad a Brine. I'm just being more direct than I usually am to make sure the message gets through. If he doesn't give up on me being an arrogant jerk I think we'll work things out soon enough.

 

I'm optimistic about getting something that works, but I'm worried about making it a competitive race. Still, I think we can get the basic route down easily enough and that will be a valuable experience no matter the end result. I suggest opening the script and messing with it to see what happens. Get over the initial shock of the scale of the script and don't be afraid to break things. Fail repeatedly and often, you'll learn a lot in the process.

OK I understand I have to try... but... I can't even found coordinates in this script. I'm looking for numbers with format XX.X, YY.Y, ZZ.Z but I cannot find them :(. So Do I have to change every 5860 lines of script, line after line, and look for effect after every ingeration? :O

3 tables of them are inactiv, they will be skiped,

table 19, 20, 21 are reserved for map mod races

 

table 22 = new sa race San Fierro Downhill

table 23 = new sa race Montgomery Special

table 24 = new sa race LS-East Las Colinas

table 25, 26, = Hotring/Dirtring racetables

 

in the decompiled script is...

I have a huge problem just in the begining. I got crash after every Compilation of script.

Here's what I'm doing:

1. I'm launching Sanny Builder 3

2. I'm opening N-races.cm, which results with creation of N-races.txt file.

 

Now for the problems...

First I tried to make some short, straight race instead of SF downhill, so I changed coord of checkpoints. Save->Complie->Launch GTA SA->Load Game-> I found a car, I typed RACE and BAM! GTA crashed!

I replaced cleo files with original files.

OK than... so I tried to change a little only one of the checkpoints in race. I changed X of one, Save->Complie->Launch GTA SA->Load Game-> I found a car, I typed RACE and BAM! GTA crashed! Again I replaced the files with backup.

Hmmm.. So lets check if it works without any changes! Again, I launched Sanny Builder 3, Opened N-races.cm, and without any changes I hit Compile, than Launch GTA. And guess what... "Load Game-> I found a car, I typed RACE and BAM! GTA crashed!"

What the hell...?

that's the big question

As first does they need paths,

but there're a lot of paths that have junctions and the normal traffic cars are programmed to can change paths by using the junctions, but just for actually area where the player is present and not more.

So it' seems that the cars are driving everywhere and are crossing here and there.

If you command a car by script to drive from point to point, then it drives along this one path where it starts and won't change the path. It's not impossible, but it's hard to force the car to do it.

Especially at the bridges between the continents will you have big problems.

It seems that R*Star considered the need of usefull paths for races as they made the paths to realize the origially races

The race script doesn't contain a method to force the AI cars to change paths. Only chance is, to place the checkpoints, so that they lead them for your plan.

 

 

Opened N-races.cm, and without any changes I hit Compile, than Launch GTA. And guess what... "Load Game-> I found a car, I typed RACE and BAM! GTA crashed!"

did you saved it as N-Races.txt and compiled as N-Races.cm?

 

make shure that "extra info to scm" is not set

choose "tools" from main menue, the "options"

in "option" window "General", there's an option called "Add extra info to SCM"

REMOVE the hook at "Add extra info to SCM"

But theres still one problem to solve, all drivers have strange orientation on start... where can I change it?

orientation is done by calculating angle between first and second checkpoint

 

also the arrow inside of that big red marker get's the orientation by calculating angle beween current and next checkpoint

 

and btw. don't be too lazy to make enough checkpoints, minimum from one to next turn of the road

I have another problem... And I think this is a big one...

When I reached 700 in coords, my race changed starting position into underwater location somewhere in the middle of map...

oh, that's not nice, the checkpoints are limited to 82

i don't think that i can increase it, it would be a too hard work

but maybe i could write something that can update the coord table at the right moment

i mean, at start 1 - 82 of 100 checkpoints will be shift into data pool, later 18 - 100 of 100 checkpoints will be shift into data pool

I'm trying to remove some checkpoints but it's a hard work... Now I need to rmove only 3 more points to succes :p

I made it... 81 checkpoints in the race around the San Andreas State... My eyes and my nervous system are highly damaged... Guys... Modding is a hard work, you have my respect for doing it all the time!

You can find Around the state race in SF Downhill race. I did not change the name of race, because I don't know where to look for it and I don't have patience for this right now :D. If some of you want to change a name, and add a picture for the race, feel free. Also if any of you want to fix something go on, just share it with us here :))

Respect Courage1_PL, excellent work :^:

Now you know what it means, to collect checkpoints for a race :lol:

 

To make make it complete, you could make a texture that shows the route

I would then place the route in the first slot and upload the updated mod.

I would add a credit to you and you can give the race a name like you want
