'Sticky' weapon pickups a bug?

I've noticed that weapons still locked at my level (e.g. mini-gun, grenade launcher) that I pick up during a Survival round are still usable for the remainder of my free roam session. Anyone know if this is a bug or just a perk from R*?

 

Interesting though that you can't buy ammo from Ammunation for them; they're still ghosted on the weapon wall even though they're in your weapon wheel.

"Perk". It's also good way to get weapons you have unlocked but don't want to buy. Just make sure you then go to Ammunation and select that weapon to make sure it "sticks".

 

Also works with Gang Attacks; you can get a wider range of free weapons through gang attacks than survival (I think). It's also a tad easier, as you can just run in, break the crate, grab the stuff then run away instead of the 30min Survival...
