universal healthcare is nice, but like a lot of times with public spending it's done pretty innefcient at best and downright corrupt at worst

there's a lot of pretty big financial interests involved and the medical industry isn't exactly known for their perfect moral behaviour, between lobbying politics and pretty much bribing doctors they're only interested in making money.

making it mandatory and thus pretty much removing the alternatives (well there's even more expensive private healthcare) doesn't exactly help this situation either

even if there's more than one party, the fact you can't opt out essentially creates a monopoly which is never good for the market.

not to mention it is impeding on personal freedom, who are they to say what I do or do not need?

 

not saying it is a bad thing per say, especially in the US it seems to be an improvement (though I can't say I know enough to say for sure) but there's more to it than just the upside of healthcare for everyone

Secondly, I cannot afford it and neither can a single person that I know. I'm not generalizing across the country, just stating what I know from firsthand experience. The point I was trying to make was that instead of everyone paying towards universal healthcare through taxes like a good portion of the world, we get singled out on an individual basis and IF you don't get it because you can't afford it, you get fined and face possible jail time. No one should be penalized because they can't afford something beyond not being able to use that service. Regardless of political views from anyone's perspective, I can't see how anyone would be okay with that.

I think calling it "Obamacare" either way is just giving it a negative connotation, feeding into the bad press its gotten simply by being named after a president who gets slammed by the opposing party all the time, making him look infinitely worse to the average joe who may not understand what exactly is going on. words like that matter.

 

It is similar to the other side where you have gun grabbers calling any firearm that is black an "assault" weapon because it sounds scarier and pushes their agenda, or saying a Glock with a 17 round magazine is a "high capacity" magazine when it is just the standard capacity it was designed for.
