DLC Weapons Rank Lock

Every new player I have gone up against in a Deathmatch has the Special Carbine. I mean rank 2 with a Special Carbine... I think its very unfair that the majority of us started out with only the Pistol. Yet now, new players are getting full on military weapons. DLC weapons should be locked until a certain rank is reached. If the Rail Gun makes it into Online for the PS4/Xbox One and PC, I hope it has a very high unlock level, say 200. That way the newbies can f*ck themselves and work hard like we had to before we could even purchase an SMG.

It makes more sense to cater to new players, than ones who will continue or have been. From a business perspective. From a player's perspective, makes me wonder why I earned all of it real early on.

If it isn't level locked, it'll probably be trash like the other DLC weapons. So I wouldn't be concerned. If it's a good weapon...which I doubt, then it should be level locked.

It's far more realistic that a gangster or a street thug has access to small weapons such as SMGs and Pistols, and a Street Boss or a Kingpin has access to military/heavy weapons such as a Machine Gun or a Grenade Launcher. If i were a troll, i would straight away tell you "ur just mad coz a low lvl killd u lol" or "i bet ur 1 of those high lvl newbs that killz low lvls coz u got no skill" But i'm trying to see your point. Why see it as a punishment for you? Yes you, me and a lot of us had to pass through the pain of only having crap weapons, but those moments are gone, and now you're a walking army with all of those weapons on your pocket. See it as a balance so the low levels of today stand a chance.

The rifles and heavy shotgun are pretty good. Novelty weapons like the musket and the vintage pistol have no need to be level locked

I suspect they will change it for next/new/current gen consoles and include those DLC items as level unlocks. Personally I dont mind giving the lower level players some decent hardware. They are still limited to the lower grade armor and they will still have a lower level of health than higher ranks. Even if you both go in with a special carbine someone with a higher rank will still have an huge advantage.

I think it's because most people have established themselves in Online and have a wide array of weapons at their disposal as opposed to low-level players equipped with nothing but a measly pistol. However, I agree that it's unfair that we had to work towards our weapons while low levels have access to DLC weapons from the very start of their career. But, I think R* still made level-locked weapons worthwhile in the sense that most DLC weapons don't have an advantage over level-locked weapons. The Assault Shotgun is a lot more useful in close quarters and has a larger magazine than the Heavy Shotgun. The Heavy Sniper is considerably more powerful than the Marskman rifle, and you can zoom in with its scope. The AP Pistol is much better than any DLC pistol since it's the only automatic pistol in the game. The Advanced Rifle is arguably better than the Special Carbine. I'll get a lot of flak for that last statement, but the Advanced Rifle's damage-per-second is the best out of all assault rifles, and since all weapons in the game have pin-point accuracy, its accuracy disadvantage goes almost unnoticed. Plus, higher levels still get access to the RPG, Combat MG and Minigun. I think it's worthwhile to level up considering the level-locked weapons, for the most part, surpass the DLC weapons.

Back when lower ranks who were too poor to pay for my cars but not too poor to afford stickies would constantly blow my sh*t up, its unfair that new players don't get to lose money unfairly.

I remember when I first started, I would often get mowed down by micro-smg's in drive by's and all I had was a sh*tty pistol to fight back with. However guns are expensive, when I was a lower rank I couldn't afford all the new stuff I was unlocking for the most part.

The Advanced Rifle is arguably better than the Special Carbine.

I've tried both, and the Special Carbine is better. :)

I'd argue that nothing should have been level locked outside of maybe the heavy weapons. It all should have been money based.

But the CoD "needing unlocks" hive mind always throws sh*t my way when I say that so....eh

I think it is unfair that new people who just got this game now get access to a nearly full wall of military grade weapons like you said. Me, who started within release of Online, only got a pistol and it was a pain in the ass to get money and complete missions because I ran out of ammo so easy (it only gave like 50 bullets with the pistol so I ran out of ammo quick).

Newcomers will never get the feeling of only having an underpowered pistol. They can just walk their happy asses into an Ammunation and pull a Bullpup rifle or Special carbine off the wall and go through missions like it was nothing.

I miss the old days in Online when everyone was wearing baseball caps and tanktops welding the default pistol at all times. But now, you see f*cking level 3 players wearing suit and ties and welding Special carbines or Bullpup rifles thinking they're the sh*t.

In my opinion, people who just created characters should only have access to the default pistol, Micro SMG, and SMG just like a real gangster. At least until they have unlocked the AK-47. (Yes, I mean sticky bombs should be unlocked later but they will be able to unlock regular grenades and tear gas before the AK-47).

So yeah, a DLC Weapon Lock is needed. If it was up to me, I would lock the Bullpup rifle until Level 110 and the Special Carbine until Level 150. Railgun at 200.

Again remember the gun is just one part of the equation. You also need to take into account the health levels of lower players, the lower spec'd armor as well as the abilities of lower players. I completely forgot until going back to my level 9 player than unlimited sprint ( tapping A button) is not something you start with. Lower ranks run out of breath eventually when sprinting. All of these combined with a s#!tty pistol would mean these new guys are well and truly underpowered against a higher level. It was ok back at release as everyone was in the same boat. Could you imagine jumping into FR as a newbie nowadays with no armor, 20 bullets in your pistol and coming up against a level 200+. I know this is just my opinion but the lower levels need something to even the playing field.

as a person that have been playing since launch and earned all my guns legit i think is a bit unfair that new players have access all this good guns right from the get go, while all i had was a stupid pistol.

on the other hand i think it helps balance stuff a bit, i mean, yes that noob level 10 have a special carbine and the assault sniper, but i as a high ranked player have more health, experience, equipment, etc etc etc...

their weapons wont make much difference when facing a reverse-drive zentorno but would give the noobs a fighting chance.

No at this point because mm puts u in lobbies with lvl 100+ as a rank <10 its fair. Back in the day everyone was runnimg around with mediocre weapons now everyobes got high tech and new players are fodder. The dlc weapons even it out

It makes sense that a new wannabe thug who just flew to LS poses no danger to a Kingpin. I know that those guns are there for balancing porpuses, but it's freaking ridiculous when level 1's have instant access to:

-One of the best guns in the game (Special Carbine)

-An automatic sniper rifle (Marksman Rifle)

-The second best semi-automatic pistol in the game (Heavy Pistol)

-An automatic shotgun (Heavy Shotgun)

This makes unlocking new weapons practically useless! What's the point of earning your AK if you have a better rifle at your disposal from the start? Why use the pump-action shotguns if you have one you can spam? Why use the first two pistols when you have one that can rival the .50 pistol from the collector's edition?

Hell, even in RDR, after all these years, you STILL have to unlock new weapons. You're supposed to reward consistency. The more you play = The better you get.

That is still the case. Instead of upgrading your weapons though you upgrade you armor level and health level. Not to mention your fitness level.

Does anyone here live in the US and know guns well? How hard would it be as a civilian to walk off the street into your local gun store and purchase a fully automatic rifle? Provided you have correct permits ect. This may sound stupid to those that know but going by the media here in Aus it doesnt look too hard to come accross some decent guns in the US.

I think it's fine. GTA is a game marketed to many non-hardcore gamers, too. People who buy NHL and Call of Duty are also likely to buy Grand Theft Auto. Those same people aren't necessarily willing to play more than a few hours a week, casually, as they would any game. I think it's fine as it gives them access to a little bit of weaponized goodness that they probably wouldn't have the patience or time to get otherwise.

Î kinda agree with this. I think everyone here before the dlc gear can remember the trials and pains of going toe to toe with ar/rocket toting players while packing nothing but a cheesy 9mm. Or getting obliterated in survival.

In respect I don't see the problem here. If you're new, you have the same access as them and if you have played a while you have more choices. Why would you want to go up against someone in a DM armed with only a pistol? That's about as fun as watching paint dry.

People that have been playing awhile might have started out with a pistol but they also have had access to time sensitive content that R* has rewarded them with.

Game balance. No reason for low levels to get slaughtered in competitive modes because higher rank players are walking around with guns that outclass anything they can own.

Though its obvious newer players have it better then the ones that were first i dont care if they have those things

Missions in general were buffed so a level 30 player can realy use an assault rifle...wich is like the only dlc weapon that makes them realy more powerfull that is still available for purchase from amu nation

If complaining about a level 20 or less owning you when youre a level 50 or something like that, well you must suck quite much since their health is still significantly less then yours and you have an mg to outrange them :/

Edit: also if the rail gun is the anti jet gun that everyone wants i think its fair everyone shoud be able to get one

Bear in mind, this is coming from a person that realy likes to own low level noobs thinking they stand a chance against me :)(they killed or tried to kill me first)

Well for your information, I don't grief anyone, whether their a high or low rank. I'm talking in general, I've randomly been doing Deathmatches, most players were above 100, but lower players that joined were using the DLC weapons. To be fair, If I host a job and all the high ranks leave, except for the low ranks, at least I give them a chance and only use the Pistol against them... whether they have the DLC weapons or not, and have been doing so since I started playing Online back in December last year. Actually, I let a rank 4 win against me as he was one of the few low ranked players I had played against to not own any DLC weapons, considering it was his first deathmatch, I thought it was only right to let him win.

op is a bitchfest. its not our fault you keep getting pwned by low level ranks with clearly more skill than you so you blame the guns. deal with it.

day-oner here btw, started with the pistol and nothing else

There is more to it than this. Lower ranked players may have the DLC weapons but I ask OP, do you have a low level character yourself? You have significantly less Health and without higher Shooting/Stamina trying to Combat Roll or get around in general is slower and you can really feel how hindered your player is at a lower rank.

As for the DLC Weapons being Trash, the Special Carbine and Bullpup Rifle compete with the Carbine and Advanced Rifle easily. OP highlighted the Special Carbine in particular and not the myriad of useless DLC Weapons added. Statistically, the Advanced Rifle is the best Rifle, albeit marginally so at least we get to Unlock it.
