CVG said GTA V has the best sea in a video game ever

This video is the same 1-hour video from last week, but I thought I'd share this part in case it was overlooked. They both agreed the sea life underwater and on the surface was probably the best they've seen in video games. I think that says a lot since they've played far more than I've ever seen myself, so I take their word for it.

Some new things they mentioned about the NG ocean life:

- light diffraction more realistic. Or is it refraction? I am physics fail :/

- algae (new animal?). We have algae!

- the sound underwater is different from LG and better

- wave patterns and surface lighting is remarkable

Rockstar is the master of the waters!!

Let's see if it's better than Far Cry 3...

I'm still blown away by FC3 water. It was f*cking awesome..

Yeah great find man. I don't get some posters wondering if they downgraded the water effects for NG, I mean just look at the awesome NG water in the vid above.

Algae is that green sh*t that starts building up in water. Example people who have fish tanks that have a poor filter on it. It gets that green gooky sh*t in it. I could be wrong but the sea itself wouldn't get algae since it's running water. Alamo sea or ponds however will. Once again I could be wrong there. Anyways I don't doubt it, AC: Black Flag had a great looking ocean on the PS4 and it wasn't even that great looking but GTA: V will most definitely be the best looking as of now. I can't imagine the PC version... it'll be f*cking beautiful.

i'm not sure algae is an animal, mate

I admit I was kind of was stretching it there hah

R* has really improved their water tech if we look at their past games. GTA IV water did have that "gelatin" look, and RDR looked great for its time. I recall standing on the riverbanks, just staring at the cascading river water for minutes.

And to think we couldn't really interact with the RDR water, but now we can. It's not just pretty water only seen and admired from a distance, but we can dive right into it or skim the surface with vehicles, and it manages to look realistic *mindblown gif*

(does anyone know how to embed a Youtube video? My original post above only links the Youtube video)

Red Tide

Maybe we will get luminescent jellyfish (and jellyfish stings) :p

But still no surfing? The one mini-game that we might actually play?

Farcry 3's water was nice. But in terms of realism, last gen GTA V has better looking water, with the waves and sea foam. It also actually has stuff underwater.

You hardly get waves in Farcry 3

This looks more real IMO^

Easily some of the best water effects I've seen, and that was the previous generation. Admittedly, games like the original Crysis have jaw-dropping water effects, but GTA V's are much more dynamic in contrast to the aforementioned. Edited by Bishie

Gnocchi Flip Flops

The only thing that would make it better than V's is more flora. Lots and lots of flora.

Virtual water CAN look better believe me! Check video above for your proof!...Check water flaws, waterfall textures, reflections and so on...and then compare it to GTAV's water!

That argument has already been overcome years ago, try again.

I'm not convinced. Even when fully modded, Skyrim's water effects are not nearly as intricate. GTA V's water effects are dynamic and change in accordance to the weather.

GTA's water looks better honestly. None of those mods do a good job of making the flow of the water look natural and not just an animated texture that is running on top (The water in Skyrim does not act differently when it gets near banks or near objects, it keeps acting the same which is very offputting when you notice it). GTA's flow of water actually seems to act like water and seems to change when it gets near banks or near an object.

I still believe the water in GTA V is far more convincing. I admit the textures here is nicer but the pattern and algorithm of how the water flows still look like flat moving textures with that solid gelatinous appearance. Now while the texture may not be as crisp the rivers and ocean waves in particular in V just look much more natural to me.

Skyrim does better stream water, the problem is it uses that everywhere and it is very flat and boring. I'm sick of the flat shader water and am so ready for volumes of water that have a three dimensional surface.

It seems fine to me.

Rockstar should focus on how to still remain the master of action and crime focused open-world game more than the waters.
