BucNazT
This is the third time I've pre-ordered a game online. The first was Vice City through EB Games in 2002 and the last time was Infamous: Second Son through Amazon back in March. Vice City, I remember was delivered first thing in the morning on release day....god, that was such a good day! lol I ran into issues with Infamous earlier this year though. It was shipped out the morning before release day, I used their free shipping (which is usually a great option) because I didn't care too much about playing it day one. But the issue was the postman ended up losing it or delivered it to the wrong house. So I ended up having to go through Amazon to report it lost and it took another couple of weeks on top of the two weeks I waited initially to get the copy to my door....which sucked. But in the time since then, I subscribed to Amazon Prime and their free two day shipping (which has been awesome). So, I figured I'd give them another chance and pre-ordered GTA V through them. They guaranteed me that I would receive my shipment on day one with the Prime shipping. But I'm still worried about the sh*t show I had to deal with earlier this year. Does anyone else usually pre-order their games with Amazon Prime? Do they really get delivered on day one? S1N0D3UTSCHT3K
Alternatively just go to your local mom, and pop [a] game shop and get it early on Friday like I will. I read your comment like this and haha before I re-read it correctly saintsrow
Geeteeaifive
Lol this is bizzare, maybe they weren't expecting to sell many so they didn't bother creating many physical versions of the game, besides, Why would it ship so early, sounds like a mistake. Na it's just the fools who still order physical copies because they think digital shops like steam will vanish one day without a trace and they'll lose all their games LOL. The chances of that happening are less than the chances of your house catching fire destroying all of your discs ect.

Being a gamer and a collector, I love having a physical library of discs as opposed to an on screen listing. Although, I don't knock anyone that prefers digital, its just my preference. KingJames37
I got the same email. I was very emotional about it at first. Then I kept thinking about how I pre-ordered it back on June 10th. How could an order I made be put on BACK ORDER when I ordered it THE DAY it was announced? Simple. Their automated system messed up. Being a longtime customer of RockstarWarehouse I know that they are simply out-of-date with the simplest online ordering courtesies that most retailers offer as common sense. Their system told itself it needed to ship the orders a week in advance to have them delivered in time for the launch, In reality, they have time to spare. They have timed shipping in place, and don't need what a bought-and-paid-for second rate retail website would normally require. The RockstarWarehouse needs soooo many improvements. I am confident that my game will arrive on that day. Not early enough in the day, I'm sad to say. Almost standard shipping with a loose deadline. saintsrow
Sounds like they are discouraging physical copies. That would be in line with the trend that was implied at E3 2013 that the new consoles would not support resale games. The player community (and GameStop) sh*t a brick. So having physical copies be "backordered" is the soft-pedal way of getting the community to go digital, thus eventually abolishing the game resale market. Makes sense, since game developers don't make any money on resales.
Newch
Unfortunately, my product order for Grand Theft Auto V through the Rockstar Warehouse has been placed on backorder and is(as of now) unable to ship as initially scheduled as it's(according to Rockstar Games Customer Service) out of stock and unavailable at the moment. It will be shipped as soon as stock becomes available. I received the following message from Rockstar Games Customer Service: "Thank you for ordering on Rockstar Games, Inc.. Unfortunately, one or more of the products you ordered is out of stock and could not be shipped. The product(s) has been placed on backorder as soon as stock becomes available." I'm assuming this is some kind of error message of sorts, but I'm not entirely sure. Any thoughts?

The fact that this is the initial current gen release, they want to cover all their bases and take as much advantage as possible. I highly doubt they would push one money making avenue by choking off another, which is, quite possibly, the more preferred customer choice. I think this is just a case of a bug in their costumer notification system, as others have stated. Edited November 11, 2014 by BucNazT
backfromthestorm
Sounds like an administration error to me. Sure you'll be fine. Always get it else where too to be sure. I just went into tescos and ordered mine. They always have then day one. I got a pre-order version of AW from there and I didn't even pre-order it. They were selling them on the shelf. Saranis
Cancel your preorder and go into any retailer the day of and buy it. Seriously I never got why people make a big deal out of pre-ordering. I've never once in my life of buying big release games on day 1 have had any trouble walking into a bestbuy, walmart, target etc and just picking one up off the shelf. Even the biggest games ever dont sell out. You must not live in a highly populated area. Growing up outside DC if you wanted a game on the first day you HAD to pre-order it. All those stores you mentioned, plus Gamestop, EB Games (back when they were separate) Toys 'R Us, Circuit City, ect never had extra copies to sell. It may have changed towards the end of Last Generation with more digital copies being bought, but 5 years ago it was impossible to get popular games day 1 unless you pre-ordered it. Even the biggest games ever dont sell out. GTA V was sold out and it apparently happens with CoD too. We don't have anything like wall mart here, and I consider that a good thing. But yeah, preorders are crap. When V sold out here, they didn't even have enough to fulfil the preorders...so it clearly doesn't work as a guarantee. It's just used to guide you as a customer towards buying it from the stores the publisher wants you to...or even better, direct from the publishers. If you want your local mom and pop game store to die slowly. By all means, pre order away.
BucNazT
Well, I can officially call myself a hypocrite! haha Being restless tonight, my mind started racing and I got up to research a few things. I went on Amazon and decided to order a Solid State Hybrid HD for my PS4 and I cancelled my pre order of GTA V from them and ended up pre ordering the digital version off the Playstation Store. While, I am a collector, I still own the steel case from the PS3 version, I figured I am picking up this shiny new Hard Drive and have yet to ever purchase a full fledged AAA digital game and this thread and a couple others made me curious about the prospect. So, I dove in....and I get an extra $150,000 for my online character for going digital. So I got that going for me, which is nice. gonetoplaythegame
InTheShadowsSince04
Digital doesn't have this problem, once you go digital, you never go back. Waiting until 3 am to play > standing on line at Gamestop freezing your a** off. lol I live in Florida...never freeze...lol...it's a 7 minutes drive to game stop...20 minute wait for the game...10 minutes driving back...I'll still be online before 3am...lmao

cryptorelic
Digital copy won't mean asap, here in my country they will sell GTA V this Saturday already, when it is suppose to come out Tuesday. Last year was the same, i was able to get hold of GTA V a full 4 days before the official release date. I'm kinda glad living in this f*cked up slum

But I'll take going up to GameStop less than two miles away from me just for barely 30 minutes over waiting 5 hours for the game to download. Sometimes it takes longer than that with my unsteady connection...

Queen Elizabeth II
Digital ftw. Nick930930
Physical is better. Simply because you can ALWAYS play your game. Digital stuff is simply a subscription. Once the host dies, your games die with it. God forbid steam releases Half Life 3.. it sucks.. and valve dies.. or worse.. sells to Disney.. oh GOD! Edit: yes i know all of this is ludicrous and not how it works at all. I'm just having fun Edited November 11, 2014 by Nick930930

The reason I ordered a physical copy was because, at the time, the PS4 was having some issues with the sleep mode. It wasn't quite clear if a digital copy would actually download when put to sleep. Also, when I ordered V for the first time from the warehouse it came in perfectly. Not quite sure why they are having troubles this go around. If I don't hear back from R* in the next day or two I will be getting the digital version. No Image Available

I've actually never heard of anyone in any state through posts just like mine made online that not being able to find a copy is never the case. Now for getting a new console yes they sell out constantly for months here unless you wait in line or preorder but for games, never.
