grandthefthoughto
One thing i'm yet to read anything about is whether the character change mechanic has been improved/sped up (always felt a little slow and jerky to me, especially from sp to online), so what do you guys think, will it be much the same or can we expect/hope for an improved smoother transition from one character to another or sp to online? Emmi
I hope it's a loooooot faster, it was one of the most annoying things to wait like half a minute for the character to switch. Well I think PC can do it instant
NintendoFanboy
With 8 core processors and 8GB of RAM on next generation I'd say so. TheMisanthrope
Trevorphilipjfry
Its probabaly more randomised in terms of their cutscene, for mw they are usually doing the sane thing all the time.
PoeticWhisper
With 8 core processors and 8GB of RAM on next generation I'd say so. Pretty much this. I'm sure the transition to online will still take a bit of time, but for the main 3 it should be quick as a hiccup.
Lurker247
It'll probably be like in the gameplay trailer from last year if you remember, it was a quick bam , bam, bam.
Che Guevara_187
I just hope every time i switch to Franklin hes not ironing his cloths , that pissed me off , hes supposed to be a gangster/bank robber Johnny Spaz, JoeM and MythAlex
ChumCrumpet
Well it was slow because it had to load the land and characters so it'll definitely be a lot faster in NG. I just hope every time i switch to Franklin hes not ironing his cloths , that pissed me off , hes supposed to be a gangster/bank robber I don't know a SINGLE gangsta with wrinkley clothes. MeltedSOX.
Should be a lot faster now since the consoles have more ram and cpu. So I do expect switching characters should be much more faster than last gen.
TheMisanthrope
Considering that most games I've gotten that are remastered on the PS4, the loading times compared to the PS3 is definitely faster. Not by THAT much but it is noticeable. Example The Last of Us on the PS3 to load into a current saved game it takes like 3 minutes and longer(Or at least felt like it.) just to get into the game. On the PS4 it takes about a minute. AC: Black Flag took less time as well. Now of course loading times are different than actual in game loading moments but I'm gonna assume yes, it'll be a little faster than before.... not that it even felt as long as everyone claims that it did. I felt it was reasonably fast for changing characters that are half way across the map.
CarlitoDorito
Definitely, maybe it'll slow a bit now and then, but it'll still be faster than before.

Maxrevv
Pretty confident the powarghh of the current-gen consoles will significantly decrease the character switch duration. Imagine how fast it'll be on PC with DDR4 RAM and GTX 980.... Also, I hope when switching to Franklin, he would do something else then just sitting at home or go to restaurants. In my PS3, that's the only place he'll go.

I was originally concerned that the transitions would be too slow when I first heard about the game feature but in actuality, I never found myself getting frustrated with slow transitions in GTA V. Also looking forward to the new character switch animations. Think I read that there will be a whole load of new FPV animations/sequences to enjoy. JoyDivision
i think we just need to remember that although the hardware is much better the draw distance, peds and vehicles, lighting and textures have all increased to match this new power. the time it takes to switch characters may be comparable last gen RisingRedWolf
poland stronk
Imagine how fast it'll be on PC with DDR4 RAM and GTX 980.... Actually VGA has almost nothing to deal with it and DDR4 will have only slight effect. You want SSD or/and in RAID so data is loaded and transffered faster. S1N0D3UTSCHT3K
I just hope every time i switch to Franklin hes not ironing his cloths , that pissed me off , hes supposed to be a gangster/bank robber really? his entire story is basically anti-gangster he really doesn't have criminal aspirations. he just wants to live the high life and do the pure base minimum of upper professional crime necessary so I always found his character switch scenes, while annoying, rather fitting haha p.s. as for the OP, yeah I hope the loading speed between characters is significantly increased
DaRkL3AD3R
Aren't the hard drives in next gen consoles still sh*tty 5400 rpm laptop drives? If so then no I'm afraid it won't improve at all as this was the biggest bottleneck in loading and character changing. Actually, now that we have all these high resolution textures and better quality models, if the hard drives have the same performance then expect loading and character swapping to be even SLOWER on next gen consoles. This is going to be the one thing I look forward to the most on pc is loading the game onto my super fast ssd. RisingRedWolf

DaRkL3AD3R
CVG confirmed this today, someone asked on the forums if the character swapping was faster. They sounded very "meh it's the same." You know if CVG sound like that, it's bad. So yeah looks like I was right. Same sh*tty laptop hard drives still taking forever to load the game. PC will truly shine in this regard, super fast SSDs character swapping instantly. The number of people that will do install SSD in their PS4 is small. But here's an idea what you could expect if you DID install a sh*tty SSD into an old PS3. A faster newer SSD in a high end PC would be even better:

If GTA V will be your life, then I strongly recommend you get a 512GB Samsung SSD and just enjoy the ride. It will definitely be as good character transitions as the original gameplay trailer in 2013, if not better. If you will only play GTA a little bit and mainly play other games, then I don't think it's worth the money. You really only see the difference with games that have lots of streaming data, like open world games.
