Kipsta
Grand Theft Auto has always been a third-person game, and with Rockstar recently announcing the first-person mode for the Remastered version, while I'm amazing with what they're doing (technically), I can't help but feel scared. Sure (and this is what I'm praying for) this could be just a "feature" for the Remastered version adding extra justification and incentive for consumers to double dip, and that's fine! But what if it becomes the standard for all future GTA games? Will people expect and demand this for future GTA's? Obviously, that will mean more development time, and we all know how much time is needed for a GTA game. So if the demand is great, they wouldn't dare cut third-person view...would they?! This decision on Rockstar's could really change things, because since the reveal I've seen and read nothing but positive reception and I'm fearful that GTA could potentially be turned into a first-person only game. Is this really a step in the right direction for GTA as a series? Rockstar Games Company Philosophy: In October 2011, Rockstar creative vice president Dan Houser told Famitsu that Rockstar is intentionally avoiding developing in the first-person shooter genre. "We're deliberately avoiding that right now", he said, according to a 1UP.com translation. "It's in our DNA to avoid doing what other companies are doing. I suppose you could say that Max Payne 3 is something close to an FPS, but there are really unique aspects to the setting and gameplay there, too, not just in the story. You have to have originality in your games; you have to have some kind of interesting message. You could say that the goalpoint of Rockstar is to have the players really feel what we're trying to do". Houser went on to say that Rockstar has "made new genres by ourselves with games like the GTA series. We didn't rely on testimonials in a business textbook to do what we've done. I think we succeeded precisely because we didn't concentrate on profit... If we make the sort of games we want to play, then we believe people are going to buy them." Gdog
i don't care as long as they don't force it on us. give us the ability to choose between 1st/3rd. don't see anything wrong with that. if you prefer one to the other then just use whatever one you're happy with. it would be a bit selfish to demand that a feature be removed just cause you don't like it. the more choices the better. a lot of people aren't happy with the 1st person feature but personally i can't wait for it. happygrowls
Without a doubt the next sandbox R* games will have a first and third person option, Rockstar knows that having it shoved in your face by forcing you to use it is a bad move. Raynos
Is this really a step in the right direction for GTA as a series? The answer to that question can never truly be objective. It all comes down to personal opinions and what people like. The potential is there, obviously. GTA 1-2 = Top Down GTA 3 = 3d 3rd person with Optional Top Down GTA VC = 3rd person GTA SA = 3rd Person GTA IV = 3rd Person + Hood view in cars GTA V (ps3/360) = 3rd Person + Hood view in cars GTA V (pc/ps4/xone) = First Person + Optional 3rd Person Where do we go from here??? Maxxeine
I doubt it. GTA has been third person ever since GTA 3, and the series is known for the iconic controls and camera view. If they forced first-person, GTA wouldn't be the same game anymore. Not only that but you also can't see much around you, unless you turn up your field of view, which is a PC exclusive feature. I'm fine with them adding first person, I just don't think, or see, them forcing it upon us. It wouldn't feel, well, "GTA" to me, and to a lot of people. I thought that GTAoClock and IGN preview said it was adjustable on console? I might be mistaken though.. VIPΣR

CarlitoDorito
FP mode will most likely be in every GTA now, but it'll still be optional, surprisingly detailed, but optional.
