ryan_J
so bland much dry wow Everyone knows that the average turkey is just a disappointing dry version of a roast chicken but it's tradition.. like how Champagne isn't particularly that nice. Gay Tony
For Christmas my family cooks and eats legit octopus. It's a Spanish tradition from my moms side. Don't knock it it's very good actually, better than boring turkey. Edited November 14, 2014 by mr toasterbutt

Don't knock it it's very good actually, better than borning turkey. Never had octopus but squid is god damn delicious, it turns rubbery if cooked poorly but with good timing anyone can pull it off. My family usually just has the traditional turkey, and maybe some lamb or beef for those who aren't that keen on turkey. We usually cover the turkey in bacon though which is about as good as it gets! ghost of delete key
Let's worry about Thanksgiving first. Amen. Went to the library today, they're putting up the big-ass Christmas tree. Worse, the day after Halloween, they put up the tiny ones on all the light posts in town No love for The Turkey. None at all. gtamann123
Gunned us, stunned us, exploited and they hung us Id like to take a moment to say, f*ck Columbus but yeh turkey is p bland Didn't you once say your grandpa was a Polish Jew? So as much as you hate to admit it you got some European blood in you dude I usually defend you, gtamann, but this really is nonsensical. SPND and I disagree on a lot of things but I'm pretty sure he doesn't hate Europeans in a racially-motivated way, if at all. Secondly, it's disingenuous to call Ashkenazi Jews Europeans. Many among the Ashkenazim wanted to assimilate into wider European culture and did so successfully during the Enlightenment. However it wasn't long before the Dreyfus affair, pogroms and worse reared their heads and made it pretty clear that Europe had no intention of considering the Jews to be European. Naturally I can't speak for SPND's ancestors but I doubt that they, as Polish Jews, had much or anything to do with European colonialism. Heck, it's more likely that your ancestors had something to do with this. Should this have any bearing on you? No, of course not--how can you be held accountable for the actions of people you're distantly related to but otherwise have no affiliation with? We should honour the good deeds and traditions of our ancestors, and be mindful of the ill (for we can learn lessons from all of them) but that's about it. Damn it. SPND man you need to get back onto the anti-capitalist/anti-Israel political schtick so we can start arguing again. Afaik Most of my ancestors came here between 1900 and 1915. Except for one individual who came here in the early 1840s and settled in the Cleveland Ohio area (non slave state and his son fought for the Union in the civil war) and he was nothing more than a working class handyman and farmer so he probably didn't take anything from Natives. And I think most of my family have been lower class serfs and tradesmen since the beginning of time. So I'm not really sure if anyone in my family has ever had anything to do with colonialism. Which is why it confuses me that some people belive I should be punished for something not even my ancestors were involved in. Even if your ancestors had been involved it would be stupid to think you should be punished for it. I hope I didn't give off a contrary view when I replied last time. You have an interesting family history--it's good that you've traced it that far back. Edited November 16, 2014 by Failure
Panz
Man, Christmas blows. But, I guess I'll try to round up my mess of a family and see if we can all hang out in a room for a few hours without someone losing his/her sh*t. I might actually travel to visit my boyfriend since my mom usually ends up working Christmas day, anyway, and we usually just end up celebrating it all on Christmas Eve.
