Why was there never a human shield system in the games?

When IV came out, GTA finally got a covering system and you hid behind wall, but we never used people as human shields. Why is that? There are plenty of other games that have that, so why not GTA?

I don't know how much use a human shield would be in an actual shootout with the cops or whatever. I enjoyed how Sleeping Dogs did it, though.

Human Shields were always pretty useless and unrealistic to me. Why do they never fight out of it in games? And wouldn't bullets go through their bodies, hitting you anyway? It would be cool to hold innocent people Hostage so police wouldn't shoot at you, though. But taking an armed enemy as a shield to block out other enemy bullets is so dumb to me,

Human shields are stupid, it takes an amount of disbelief that's compared to wrestling moves.

It will only look right in a hostage/kidnapping scenario.

It may go through them and hit you. However with most bullets, like pistol and SMG bullets and shotgun pellets, the bullet would most likely break apart in their body.

Human shields are usually used when the protagonist or whoever is in a tight situation and needs an easy way to escape, thus they take a hostage in exchange for an easy getaway, more or less. In GTA, if the protagonists are in a tight situation, they tend to shoot it out. I feel that the human shield feature was useful in Sleeping Dogs because the police actually try to arrest you in that game, instead of shooting you down. Also, guns can be scarce in SD, so the player would want to converse ammo by taking a hostage instead of shooting something out. This wouldn't be helpful in GTA because, as I stated before, guns are more or less plentiful and the protagonists shoot their way out of things.

I would have loved a human shield system or the option to rob peds at gunpoint just like in RDR.

Exactly, this feature is to restrained during the gameplay of a GTA game. Why running straight to a guy to grab him by his neck, offering yourself as some target practise to his buddies along the way, when I simply can pull out my .457 Magnum and shoot him in the face ? 'Now what I mean ?

It could work in certain circumstances, but it would possibly cause the usual media sh*t storm.

Cheers.

Everything causes a media sh*t storm, at this point R* should just completely ignore media and crap since the only way they're gonna stop bitching is if GTA is turned into Foam Padding: The Game.

Clearly not, considering there were already some similarities between SR3 and GTA V. Mainly the cops that will never arrest you and shoot the sh*t out of you instead, and the fact that police cars can ram semi trucks or APCs off the road, and the arcadey driving. And the fact that both had shorter and, in my opinion, not as good stories than the previous games in their respective series. I thought SR2 was great though.

It's funny, because Trevor takes a human shield in the prologue.

I mean, it'd be nice but like others have pointed out it isn't really needed.

Don't know if that pic's from SR3 or SR4, but whatever Rockstar does with the human shields, I hope they don't screw it up like SR3 did. In that game, enemies seem to completely ignore the fact you have a shield, and keep on shooting 'till the unfortunate victim dies. Hell, this happens even if you grab a civilian in a cop shootout, lol. SR2 did that way better (and allowed faster movement while holding the shield as well).

Oh, and shields in that game don't even block bullets very well. It's as if they can shoot through the human shield and hit you every single time.

Blood money for sure. You needed to get necklace from this woman. Seems like this guy took the "kill'em all" appproach.

Oh yeah "It would be unrealistic", great excuse for the latest game which happens to include super powers. I mean "Special abilities".

I don't think a "media sh*tstorm" means a thing because this game already allows you to do the worst of the worst which is running around and killing innocent people for fun with no consequences. A human shield is nothing compared to that.

But think, we live in a society where people riot over sports games yet are perfectly fine with having people starve without a home. The general public's opinions on what's bad and what's not are pretty screwy.
