Skeloboy
Do you think steam machine will be succsessful against Xbox and playstation they will be delayed until next year as valve has announced . What's your opinion
Flachbau
It depends. Each manufacturer needs to supply different performance tiers that market towards specific people. High end tier should get at least 8GB RAM, the Core i5-i7 or the AMD 8350, and one of the newer GPU's Mid-range tier should get a Core i5, 8GB RAM, and a fairly recent GPU Low-end tier should get a Core i3, 4-6GB RAM, and one of the older GPU's. I'm not sure if Steam Machines are sold like this, but if they are, they'll definitely compete well with Xbox and PlayStation consoles. I personally wouldn't buy one, as I don't game much.. I'd much rather build my own PC. EDIT - Although.. Steam Machines seem like some sort of gimmick. Why buy a pre-built PC with unconfigurable parts when you can build your own..? Just buy parts from sites like Newegg. Edited November 9, 2014 by Android

Vanto
For me, Steam Machines are overpriced just like gaming laptops. Look at the Digital Storm Bolt II Steam Machine: i7-4770K, GTX 780 Ti, 16GB RAM 1600MHz, 1TB Seagate, 120SSD Samsung, 500w 80+ Gold PSU and liquid cooling for $2854. You can build a PC that can run Battlefield 4 or Crysis 3 on Ultra for much more less than that.
uNi
I just can't see the point of a steam console.
yoječ
There is one: it looks sleek. I'm into smaller PCs lately and I must admit I prefer the look of steam machines over typical gaming stations. Arguably you could build a small gaming PC by yourself, though the cases that SM use seem to be custom. Other than that, there's nothing to it. GG14876
Another point for it might just be convenience over making your own gaming computer... Some people might not want to (or cannot) deal with the various issues with building a computer or don't/can't get into the whole definitions/differences associated with it. For instance, on getting good parts vs. a good console, each part group would need to be identified (CPU, GPU, MB...), choices compared to others along "apples to oranges" comparisons (USB vs SATA vs PCI on an MB) and price, reliability of reviews/comments analyzed while with the whole console, you clear most of that away with guarantees of "This will play X, Y and Z at Ultra settings" and reviews that cover the whole console. As for definitions/differences, people new to the field might have wrong impressions or misguided information which results in them going the wrong way until they find some help; sometimes they don't even realize they are going the wrong way and that they need help in the first place. And of course, which is easier for kids to ask parents/family members for: (yea, major difference in price, just ignore that aspect, I needed some parts to list) "Family, I really wish I get a Steam Machine (shows ad) for my Birthday/upcoming gift giving Holiday?" or "Family, I really wish that I, for my Birthday/upcoming gift giving Holiday, get an Intel i7-4770k processor, a GTX 970 Ti, 16GB RAM 1600MHz, 1TB Seagate, 120SSD Samsung, 500w 80+ Gold PSU and a water cooling apparatus?" Of course, this doesn't differentiate it from other consoles... I would have to say that Steam/Valve could pull ahead/become competitive if they incorporate the rest of their stuff right with it; exclusive content for SM before PCs get it, possibly better help (Such as tech support being able to run diagnostics/repairs remotely)... On the negative side... SteamOS and the whole requiring another computer to be able to run Win/Mac games through it might hold them back. I mean, if you already have a computer to run Steam on, why get another just to play on your TV? I'd just figure out what I would need to do to play on a TV and get that... At least then, I could also do other stuff with the TV, such as family picture slideshows...
