N4TE
I hope it's just static. Refueling's a hassle in real life, I don't want to do it in GTA. BLOOD and Fuzzknuckles
Doland J. Trump
It'll probably be frozen because you know. Cars never run out of gas in the GTA universe and people build gas stations for the fun of it. BLOOD

79'Blazer4x4
you know what ... i want the fuel to run out and have to visit a petrol station. it will add a whole new element to the game. you've got 5 stars and your petrol is about to run out. what are you gonna do? you can't just go in and fill your tank up! you'll be forced to ditch the car and steal another one. while you do this you'll need to hold off the police who are surrounding you on the ground and also the helicopters above you. it would add a bit of excitement to it. of course i understand that this is a game and some people just don't want to have to bother with refueling. that's OK. all it'd take is a simple option in the settings menu to enable/disable refueling. enabled: fuel dial will drop. a warning light will flash giving you time to get to a petrol station. if you don't make it then you can fill it up with a jerry can to give you enough fuel to get to the station. if you don't have one with you then you'll need to hitch a ride to ammunation then get back to your car. that's if you want to keep it of course. when you get to the station you just roll up. maybe you can choose how much you put in. half a tank or full tank. it would be cool if the fuel prices were linked to stock prices of certain companies on BAWSAQ that are related to the fuel industry so that they fluctuated. disabled: same old. the fuel dial stays where it is. Another option when you run out of fuel could be to call a tow truck. A tow truck(small or large depending on the size of your vehicle) would appear in a similar fashion as when you call a cab, hook up to your vehicle and you'd climb in the passenger side of the tow truck and you could have the same options as the taxi where you can just let them drive to the nearest gas station, tell them to hurry(with risk of damaging your vehicle being towed due to the reckless tow truck driving, or just skip to the destination. Once there the tow truck would pull the car up to a gas pump, unhook, get paid, and leave and you can now fuel up the car. Alternatively you could just call the tow truck to bring you out a jerry can. Shotgunna-Hux
I think the gasoline meter in the next/current-gen (to me it's still the next) version has been created for decorative purposes only. I could be wrong because in Mafia 2 (a semi - free roaming game which did have consumable fuel in it) vehicles did consume fuel but at a very slow rate. The gasoline was also very cheap to purchase but that is because the game's setting is a 1940s-1950s post-WW2, fictional American city called Empire Bay. Based on the experiments of the Mafia 2 community, it would seem that if the player's vehicle ran out of gas, the vehicle would "cough" and jerk and then the engine would shut off. Some players still insist that it is not the case: the player's vehicle will just accelerate much slower but never actually run out of gas. I never managed to run out fuel in Mafia 2 as the game did not encourage open-world exploration so I never drove around the city. Back to GTA V. Perhaps consumable gasoline could work, if it was affordable. The jerry can could get a new role as a tool not meant solely for destructive purposes. But still, GTA V relies heavily on vehicular transportation, so implementing a new, possibly game-changing mechanic would be a bold move by Rockstar North. What about the effects it would have on helicopters, boats, planes and the submarine? Nick930930
Nick930930
I feel as though adding fuel consumption would be really cool, but it should definitely be optional (menu option). Not everyone wants to have to drive back and forth getting gasoline all the time. Zanje
killahmatic
they are going above and beyond on this with working gauges animations etc it dosn't make sense to have a dead fuel gauge it dosn't make sense at all The fuel gauge isn't "dead" its accurately showing how much fuel is in the tank, and as it so happens fuel never runs out, so its a working gauge that will properly show a full tank. Like others have said it'll probably lower if the fuel is leaking.
Handsome Phil
It'll probably stay frozen until you shoot your tank and it leaks which causes the gauge to go down. Just a thought by me. Probably this. Payne Killer
MikeyB
Refuelling would be fine if the fuel lasted the same as in real life. You can almost guarantee though that if fuel WAS consumed it would be at the rate of a Saturn 5 rocket and you wouldn't be able to get from one end of the map to the other and back on a tank. agentkb
In an interview with CVG, The Benz says "These are all things that go through our minds. Do people like that level of realism?", when asked, "At what point do you stop trying to base the GTA games on reality? Would letting people fill up cars with petrol be a step too far?" Then he goes on with "I'm trying to remember what we did with (filling cars up with petrol). I remember thinking, "Should we do that?" maybe six months ago. I think it just sat in a list of 'Will we do that?' We do all the stuff we have to do first, and then see where we're at; if we get time". I'm with the majority, I would love to have it in the game, but as an option, for the people that don't care for it. S1LV3R_W0LF
With so much innovation, and if they paid atention to our ideas as they did with a lot of other stuff they can very well have an option where we can chose to play with gas on or off. So if it's off it gets stuck like if we're using a gas cheat code if we set on it will work as it should. I don't think something like this is a brainer for them, they have the gauges there, they have animations... they have all in place all they have to do is add a "counter" for a standard deposite. A big one a medium and a small one and along with it create a fast car class which burns gas faster, a medium class and a slower class. Adding these two factors together without the need of much costumization, they create a working fuel system. To refill the car they set a point in a gas station where you stop and it refills, or they had some extra animations where someone comes and does it. Well it's not a big deal, it all depends on their will and creativity. DevilDaRebel
Hmm. Well my humble presumption pertaining to the possible functionality of the fuel gauge is that, upon the underside of a vehicle being pierced by a well-placed bullet, the fuel will begin to spew and the needle will progressively sink to depletion. This would then, in turn, trigger the amber illumination of the 'Low Fuel' dashboard indicator on the instrument pane. Two of the three dashboard layouts that have been exposed to thus far, are comprised of fuel pump indicator lamps integrated into the clusters, so there is certainly the potentiality for that element of realism. After the vehicle is devoid of fuel, it would simply be rendered unusable and another one would have to be ascertained. This epitomizes yet another as to why I am super excited for November 18th. It strikes in just eight days. What the f*ck is this? lol.

I just wish our cars could also get filthy dirty! The rain seems to bring all cars to their former glory, GTA IV had it good, I would visit the car wash quite often! I've never had a person come wash my car by hand in IV or V. I tried with numerous convertibles and it only said "this vehicle cannot be washed" or something of that nature. I agree with that though, the cars should get at least this dirty from mucking around in mud and stuff. And notice I say at least, it would be even better if you could eventually get them like this.
