how will they handle the fuel gauge?

It'll probably stay frozen until you shoot your tank and it leaks which causes the gauge to go down. Just a thought by me.

It'll be frozen, unless the game won't use "denuvo" or anyother stupid restrictive and intrusive DRM that restricts modding.

Like maxpaynefan said, It will more than likely just be frozen and only move when the gas tank is leaking. Though it would be awesome if there was an option in the pause menu to turn on fuel consumption and allow you to fill up at gas stations.

At the very least(though it's doubtful) I hope that the position of the needle at least varies in different cars and that every car in the game isn't "full", even if the gauge is frozen it would add a bit more to the immersion.

thats the thing they are going above and beyond on this with working gauges animations etc it dosn't make sense to have a dead fuel gauge it dosn't make sense at all

There was a topic about this a few days ago--> http://gtaforums.com/topic/745499-ign-says-gas-gauge-works/

It got rather argumentative and had to be closed. For some things, we just have to wait and see.

Yah, some people feel very passionate about fuel and its implications on "fun". Lets hope this topic doesn't get the same treatment.

OP, Very interesting, i was going through some screenshots earlier and this question got stuck in my mind too.

The temperature gauge fluctuates as the car drives etc, this is evident by screens and the FPS trailer, in all the screenshots for cars, bikes and planes.. They all have fuel gauges sitting on max.

This leads me to think, if they have gone to the effort of putting in the fuel gauge for EVERY type of vehicle, surely, there could be an OPTION to turn it on? Or is it to represent leaking fuel when your vehicle gets shot up?

I'm hoping for the former, options are all good!

The FPV mode has plenty of options, lets just hope that fuel is an option too!

I agree, it should be an option. That way the ones that don't want fuel consumption can keep it off and the ones that do want it can keep it on.

Personally I would love it as I tend to role play more than anything else. I usually stop at a gas station and pretend to fuel up anyway.

Bingo (fuel?)

Or it could be like the fuel keeps on getting consumed as we drive, and after it becomes empty the car stops. However, there won't be interactive gas stations, so we'll just have to get another car.

Or you could fill it to a certain extent if you have a jerry can.

Hmm. Well my humble presumption pertaining to the possible functionality of the fuel gauge is that, upon the underside of a vehicle being pierced by a well-placed bullet, the fuel will begin to spew and the needle will progressively sink to depletion. This would then, in turn, trigger the amber illumination of the 'Low Fuel' dashboard indicator on the instrument pane. :)

Two of the three dashboard layouts that have been exposed to thus far, are comprised of fuel pump indicator lamps integrated into the clusters, so there is certainly the potentiality for that element of realism. After the vehicle is devoid of fuel, it would simply be rendered unusable and another one would have to be ascertained.

This epitomizes yet another as to why I am super excited for November 18th. It strikes in just eight days. :D

I kinda feel like it will be like the service bar on the phone, purely aesthetic.

^ Yes, actually. I'm one of em.

Anyway, for V it would be cool if the fuel gauge needle moves if the tank gets shot and starts leaking.

Do people seriously want refueling in GTA?

There are a lot of role players out there. I doubt anyone wants to have to fuel up after a half hour of driving or so, but if fuel consumption was added it would be practical to have a full tank last about 3 hours or so of non stop driving the same car. As was mentioned in the other thread that was locked, Those who don't want something like fuel consumption typically don't use the same car long enough for it to run out of fuel anyway, those who want it tend to use the same car for longer. It's no different than going to LSC to fix your car when it's too damaged for you. There are the people who just find a new car when theirs breaks and there's people that will limp it to LSC to get it fixed.

Look at Mafia II, it had fuel consumption yet I don't recall ever actually needing to fuel up a car as I never used the same one for that long and the ones I wanted to keep didn't get driven that much. Though knowing R* if they did add it you'd probably get around 15 minutes out of a tank of gas.

Do you's think IF it's in in will be strictly cars? It got me thinking how cool it would be to be flying a 747 and realise you are going to run out of fuel. But where does it stop? Will the electric car run out of power?

Refueling vehicles would add to the things to do in game. Provided you are not required to refill every day, and you could go many in game days in between I would like it. A working needle would add to that charm.

Cheers.

It's just a static decal. That's it. No fueling. That's been speculated upon since before SA and they haven't added it still. It's safe to assume that they never will.

I highly doubt it'll be dynamic even when you shoot the fuel tank and no, there won't be any refueling option since it would turn frustrating and people would start flipping Rockstar for it.

R* is aiming casual players for GTA V. If the casual players wants a working fuel system, they'll add it, if they don't want it, then they won't add it. It's a simple equation.

Unfortunately, we're hostages of the casual players (aka 9 y'old COD players), we must await for the PC version and cheer to it be moddable for someone add a fuel system...

@OP That and it'll probably go down to a certain point and magically reset after x amount of time / after you start/end a mission/job or respawn.

I'd be ok with that, at least it would make it seem more real than a gauge that's constantly stuck on full. You could even use the excuse that the protag fueled up after the mission before you took control of them.

Hmm, interesting, apparently this is a list from Rockstar Games.

New first-person cockpit views for vehicles, with fully re-modeled interiors, including working speedometers, gas dials, radio and instrument panel lighting

Source: http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/gta_5/news/these_are_all_of_gta_5s_ps4_xbox_one_and_pc_upgrades_and_enhancements.html

So if we were to believe this website in their statement Rockstar has helped us out by sending over a list of all that's new with GTA 5 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Rockstar have specifically said "working gas dials"

Interesting......... (if the source is reliable)

you know what ... i want the fuel to run out and have to visit a petrol station. it will add a whole new element to the game.

you've got 5 stars and your petrol is about to run out. what are you gonna do? you can't just go in and fill your tank up! you'll be forced to ditch the car and steal another one. while you do this you'll need to hold off the police who are surrounding you on the ground and also the helicopters above you.

it would add a bit of excitement to it. of course i understand that this is a game and some people just don't want to have to bother with refueling. that's OK. all it'd take is a simple option in the settings menu to enable/disable refueling.

enabled: fuel dial will drop. a warning light will flash giving you time to get to a petrol station. if you don't make it then you can fill it up with a jerry can to give you enough fuel to get to the station. if you don't have one with you then you'll need to hitch a ride to ammunation then get back to your car. that's if you want to keep it of course. when you get to the station you just roll up. maybe you can choose how much you put in. half a tank or full tank. it would be cool if the fuel prices were linked to stock prices of certain companies on BAWSAQ that are related to the fuel industry so that they fluctuated.

disabled: same old. the fuel dial stays where it is.

While I'm flying from Los Santos to LV, I see I'm low on fuel. So I land at a small little separate military base out in the far distance to fill up.
