The Crew

Theres only one problem with The Crew:

The steering. Its just so so bad...it would be really okay but you just can't steer from left to right without the steering wheel being stuck in the middle for a second...

Really? I changed my controls to full sensitivity and while it isn't exactly Forza Motorsport in terms of driving I can't say I observed the issue you wrote about.

I changed my controls many times and it just didn't go away...deleted the game from my console some weeks ago

I'm thinking of downloading this game through the 30Ubi offer, but the reviews I read don't seem to be pleasing.

Hopefully I'll download The Crew sometime this month, and if it performs well (or at least, is playable) in my PC, then I'll try to buy Calling all Units.

Is there anything I should know about this game?

I still enjoy playing The Crew.

The best way to play this game is using a steering wheel. And cruise around while you listen to music and drink something you feel like drinking.

I don't find driving from coast to coast as fast as i can as cool, however, sometimes it's nice to drive arround without looking at a GPS and not going faster than 140-150km/h (80-90mph)

You can also drive bikes which i also enjoy a lot.

When you reached level 50 (max), you will be able to get Platinum Medal from doing mission or challenge.

But don't get hyped up yet, because that Platinum Medal doesn't carry better gear parts. Instead, it's a huge jackpot machine and most likely you'll get stickers and obsolete gears for your car.

The photo mode ~= Forza mode, still can't hide the low model quality though.

  • 1 month later...

Just picked it up since its only 12$ on PSN, and damn im 2 years too late. I played it at launch, but the beta looked like sh*t so i never picked it up nor thought about the game, but i have to say its such a fun game. Map is huge, cars have great customization too. Im thinking of picking up WildRun dlc too, aint too sure tho. I like the fact that it takes so long to drive from one state to another, feels real.

Cons - The steering is just f*cked up, you cant really cruise down the highway without your car going in to the next lane when touching your steering wheel slightly.

Camera view is messed up too, its either too close or too far. Interieur view is weird too, character sits way too close to the steering wheel. Its too dark inside as well, speedometers are fully black when its not dark outside.

Im enjoying it so far tho. Wish i picked it up by release, probably more packed lobbies back then. There still is a huge amount of people playing tho, especially PvP.

I got it free last spring on the xbone and liked it enough to buy the DLC and season pass. The season pass was a good deal for all of the extra cars but in retrospect, I wouldn't recommend the Wild Run DLC. It just adds bikes that handle pretty wonky and really have no purpose in PvP, and drift, drag and monster specs which are all ridiculously overpriced compared to the specs from the base game. It's $500k in game money for a drag spec car you will rarely use, for example. Many of the cars you would expect to have drag spec don't, either. I mean, no 1970 Charger drag car is just lame.

Other than that, the map is huge and really fun to drive and it's piss easy to earn money in PvP. The customization is decent and the economy doesn't punish you for changing parts around. The game has its flaws for sure, but it's a bargain for $12.

Photo mode is great, too.

I can't exactly agree about The Wild Run with you Voodoo. While of course the bikes physics is a bit wobbly and it's definitely not GTA level of fun, they still can give you a bit of pleasure, especially when you are riding at high speed on the oncoming traffic. And there is absolutely no reason to buy any of the extreme classes with your money, especially that as you said these are overpriced. You can and should very likely take part in The Summit events, where you can not only earn a lot of parts for your cars (since all of the awards are smart loot), but get a lot of Extreme Starter Kits for free. Currently I have two drag and drift cars and one monster truck (since I didn't want more) and too many ESKs that I want to use.

Hmm, i honestly wanted to pick up WildRun just for the bikes and the drag cars. I just checked out wich cars can be made in to drag racer and wich not, the options we have are pretty lame, gotta agree with that. However the Summit events do look pretty fun, i can see myself playing that without getting bored. Might pick one of the dlcs up in the future, might not, we'll see.

Are story missions important? Unlocking stuff etc? I stopped playing story missions when i unlocked PvP, it just pays way better. Also, can we earn Crew Credits again? I used all my 100K Credits i got for free. I had the choice (own made up choice, lol) - buying a exotic car thats fast or buying several different cars. Went with the second option, more variation in cars that way, wich is obviously better so you have atleast one car in every category. I now have around 10 cars already(level 27), including 2 free hotrods. Saving up for the Aventador now.

Nice shots man! Gotta try out the photo mode soon as well.

The story is ridiculous and annoying but you have to progress it to at least the first race in LA in order to unlock the HQ there and the last set of perks to get your cars to 1299. I hit level 50 before I even got to Miami though by just doing PvP and grinding some skills. Those blue crew creds are a one time thing but it's so easy to make the white base money that it's not that big of a deal. After a few months I own all but three of the cars and all but two of the bikes and have around $6 mil in the bank left over.

I think they are going to release the second repack which bundled all DLC until the 'NFS-Rivals-like' mode.

Probably I'll get one again later, although I'll have to replay everything all over again, which is really draggy..

So...

Seeing as it comes out tomorrow, anybody talking about the new police expansion...?

No...?

I skipped out on buying Wild Run. Just didn't really appeal to me.

Played The Crew again when it went free and a friend of mine grabbed it. The new loot system is ass-backwards and now maxxing my left-behind cars is a pain...

But seeing as Calling All Units just gives you Wild Run for free big kick in the balls for those who actually bought it... I might pick it up.

Also why didn't I think of sharing my screenshots here before.

Really makes me feel better about my crappy GTA ones. Photo mode in The Crew is really where it shines, considering you can pick time of day, choose car damage, toggle traffic...

If anything I'll go back to playing just for more kickass screens.

My early ones were still a bit rocky, learning how to use the system and whatnot...

Really screwed up the focus on this one...

Yay! CAU is still full price for people who bought WR!

"Oh! Don't worry! You'll get something else!"

Well, what is it?

A F*CKING GT-R R35 FOR FREE.

AS IF EVERYONE WHO BOUGHT THE GOD DAMN WILD RUN EXPANSION DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY.

Seriously, f*ck you Ubisoft. You could've given us the expansion at a lower price, but no. You just give us a stupid R35 which will be unusable in PvP thanks to everyone who has the Huayra or the Agera.

But why though? lol

Calling All Units is a whole new expansion. Why it has to be lower price just because you bought Wild Run?

Btw, Ultimate Edition is releasing soon.

EDIT: Aha, just checked my PS store and I see that Calling All Units includes Wild Run and the price is like 1.5x from Wild Run. lol

What can I say. Ubisoft. lol

I mean, I do understand a lot of people's annoyance who bought Wild Run.

It reminds me of Elite Dangerous' scummy money grab model.

Buy Horizons and you get the base game free, but what if you bought the base game on release?

You get a Cobra MkIV that's worse than the one already in the game! No, no. Not for free. You still have to buy it.

But now that I'm on the other side of the spectrum, well...

I skipped out on Wild Run because it didn't seem all that interesting. I was dubious that it had enough content to entertain me for the price.

Now with this police DLC out, you're telling me I get Wild Run along with it?

That's sweet.

I understand why my friend was defending Frontier so much while I was boycotting Horizons.

I wonder how many complete editions they are going to release in the end, because this is already the second one. And I guess people won't be happy especially that previous add-on is free if you bought this one. I thankfully got The Wild Run when it was discounted by 50%, but I am not going pay a dime for this one (especially if it may be free with the next one).

Different thing is that CAU is not really worth its initial price of 25$, due to the fact that game is working in quasi F2P way like GTA:O. To prevent fanbase from splitting into two Ubisoft had to give some things for free and with CAU they gave enough to leave the rest highly unappealing. You can progress to level 60 and deliver the crates, which is half of the point of the add-on anyway, for free. What you are losing is around 10 police vehicles - mostly tuned up version of cars already present in the game except GT-R. There are no Crown Vics nor Chargers of course, but instead you may get Fiat 500 Monster Truck Cop Car (!). And of course you cannot buy any of the new vehicles (while this is subjective there are two vehicles interesting in my opinion - 1984 Kawasaki Ninja and Jeep Wrangler), but you can test drive them without any problems. There are also around 14 Faction Cop missions, which are locked as well.

Similarly to TWR there are no achievements nor additional awards granting you new licence plates, which could give slight incentive to get this add-on. And as a cherry on a top of a cake it seems that they've changed the voice actor of Zoe as well.

EDIT:

And if that sh*t wasn't enough right now Zoe calls you every five f*cking minutes (checked with a clock) to tell you in her changed squeaky voice that you have free cop car waiting in the shop, which is a blatant lie since you cannot use it without paying the 25$. It's like f*cking ransom, either you will pay up to make her go f*ck herself, or you will be hearing the same sh*t over and over again. I swear to God it's ten time worse than these annoying GTA Online phone calls were.

There's a new 50,000CC (microtransaction money) offer/award if anyone's interested in blowing the money on stuff like cheap cars or skill points (you redeem it like any other award with the orange point thingies in Ubisoft Store or whatever.)

26fFY2u.png

Was going to eventually someday one day make a really bitchy and entitled post about the fact the Corvette Stingray is conveniently priced at 109,989CC or $20 Season Pass so that you have to buy one or the other to get the car - now I can finally get it :santa:

Hopefully it's not going to get bumped up in price by the time I get around to buying it...

Tell me about it. Before CAU was a thing, every time I launched the game and set a waypoint to mission/destination, she'd call about an event to the special (Wild Run?) event in the Midwest and relocate my waypoint to it. There was a time where I was half-way through to the event when I realized that something ain't right and found out that I went past the mission I wanted to go to because she moved my waypoint. Annoys the hell out of me.

Today she relocated my waypoint to CAU event, then two minutes later she relocated the waypoint again to the Wild Run event. Ridiculous tbh.

Gnocchi Flip Flops

I must say I'm new to all this. I just played the demo and it's uncanny how big the map is. And after adjusting the steering the driving is actually fun. It's not close to Horizon but it has the same flow that cars in games like GTA 5 seem to lack, once you get going it feels like, well, actual driving.

Seeing as the prologue was limited to a mere 40-50 minutes I decided to travel as much as possible. So keeping to the freeways I high tailed my ass from Detroit all of the way down to Dallas and then the border. Then I headed west along the freeway, in my 370z, and only got so far before the trial ended. The distance between where I was and Los Angeles was still longer than the distance I had just driven... :O My average speed was about 105mph. Had I driven in the style I usually drive in (following road rules and going about 90mph max on freeways) it probably would've taken almost two hours to get where I was. That is just crazy. And I've been playing GTA Online for months getting bored because even cruising, it takes about 9 minutes to get from the bottom of Los Santos to the top of Paleto.

Needless to say I'm sold. I can't believe I overlooked this game. I'll probably pick it up next week. I can't wait to see what it's like to go on an endless cruise around the map in one car, probably the Continental Supersports.

While cruising and customizing is nice and all, man the game has sh*tty online netcode. Me and a friend are just cruising together, and suddenly, the game decides to put us in different sessions or something (because we dissapear to each other, then we have to wait a minute or two to re-appear). Repeat every 10-20 minutes or so, I mean ffs.

I wouldn't really recommend buying this game. The game's supposed to be played with people, but all the game mechanics are designed to totally work against that (stupid car leveling system which makes Multiplayer unfair and stupid, no balancing and practically wants you to focus on one car per category until you max it), the aformentioned netcode/session issues) At least they made car leveling less grindy with the latest update. I'm glad I got this game back when it was offered free.

TLDR The game's only good for going through story mode once and cruising/customizing. The worst part is, custom race tracks/freeroam racing is locked behind a DLC. That's downright insulting.

One question, when you buy a car does it force you to upgrade to street spec? Like can I buy a stock spec car and keep it there?

Link to comment

When you buy a car, you'll get stock. You want to turn it into other type like Street, Perf, Raid, you have to pay upgrade charge. But you will keep every type in your garage.

Like last time I had BMW M4 for Street, Perf, Raid, and also stock. All regarded as different cars.

^ Perfect. Well, I don't know when I can really buy this game but hopefully it'll be soon and the Ultimate Edition. I thought the demo look good but supposedly there was a graphics update? Oh my, I can't imagine a game this big looking even better. Sounds fun. Seems quirky like the TDU series but unlike those games the driving and map design seems very well put together so I think this game will have a long replay value for me. :)

Graphic update was already during the Wild Run update. When you buy the Ultimate Edition, it will definitely be applied to the game already.

The map and photo mode are the best.

The option to change car anytime is also very thoughtful.

Fast travelling allows you to drop in any spot, which is awesome. And The loading speed is outstanding.

I don't know about the car physics since I'm not a car guy. But it feels great and running on different terrains feel different from one another and so does each of car type.

I'm not a big fan of the activities and the parts upgrade system. Especially when you're at max level and instead of giving something worth your performance and level, they used something called Smart Loot or whatever, which is a jackpot of literally everything, including outdated parts.
