MyNameSucks
I should've posted this on my GPU thread but I forgot and it got locked so... Anyways I bought a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and own an i7 2600k CPU. Question is, how much can I OC the CPU without breaking it? (stock is 3.40Ghz) I was thinking about 4GHz or just a tad over, is it safe clock? Or how far can it go? Thanks! EDIT: Also what kind of temperatures would the CPU get with 4GHz and that cooler? Flachbau
I wouldn't go over 4.4GHz. What is a safe temperature for a CPU? AMD and Intel both have maximum temperature ratings for their CPUs listed around 80C. If your CPU gets this hot, you've got some serious problems. Most people try and keep the CPU temperature below 40C at idle and below 55C at load.
yoječ
Any stable frequency is good as long as it doesn't require high voltage. High frequency itself won't break the CPU.

What kind of temps would 4GHz create?
Flachbau
4GHz would be fine, I'm sure If it goes anywhere over 70 idling I think you'll have to tone it down
MyNameSucks
The stock fan is total sh*t since it's 65C idling and more or less when gaming lol Have neither of you had any experience with this Hyper EVO? If yes, is the fan on it controllable? Or automatic? E: In case you might ask, no I haven't installed it yet, it arrived in the mail just a few hours ago Edited November 8, 2014 by MyNameSucks
