For close quarters combat a auto shottie is probably the best option. For mid range gun fights I get out my special carbine. For long shots the heavy sniper. There are also a ton of other scenario's where other guns could be used. Grenade launcher is handy for those using cover and out of your line of sight. MG's and mini guns for anyone in a chopper. AP pistol when in a car chasing someone down. Horses for courses.

What's good about the Pistol .50? (I've never used it). I hope you don't just say this because it's a rare item, and nobody would know the difference.

 

My favs:

AP Pistol - light, quick draw

Combat MG - sheer power & long range

Assault Shotgun - obvious

And for deathmatches: Advanced Rifle - great range (silenced for stealth)

Hmm i thought of the combat mg as being the most practical...but i just remember my favorit is said to be the heavy sniper if i look at my statistics

Depends on the situation. For death matches, I mainly stick with a Carbine Rifle and Assault Shotgun, both suppressed for stealth. The carbine has very reliable mid- to long range firepower and accuracy, and is good for getting headshots. The assault shotgun absolutely dominates at close range; it is very fast and has decent spread, so you don't have to have great aim. It even works pretty well from behind cover with blind-fire.

 

For missions and survival, the Combat MG and Assault Shotgun pretty much cover all my needs. The Combat MG is especially good for survival; you don't have to reload very often, it has excellent long-range firepower, and is especially good against NPC's in vehicles and choppers. It may be slightly less accurate than an assault rifle, but I hardly notice in actual gameplay. The assault shotgun is excellent when you are being overwhelmed by NPC's; it has bailed me out of many situations.

 

I have a suppressed Micro-SMG which I use as my main drive-by weapon. Not sure if the suppressor really helps avoid wanted levels in missions and free mode, but I have it on anyway just in case it helps a bit. It is also nice for missions since a lot of times the cars tend to blow up easily and then you fail if you are trying to steal something from the driver; I know I am a lot less likely to blow up the NPC's car if I don't get a headshot right away, since it has less firepower than the AP, so that's another reason it is my default drive-by weapon.

 

The AP Pistol is a respectable alternative to any of the weapons above at almost any distance. The lock on range is slightly shorter than rifles, and its zoom magnification is very low, but the thing has incredible firepower and surprisingly good accuracy, even at a longer ranges. It is also the most powerful drive-by gun, so I mainly use it when I want something with a bit more firepower than my micro-SMG.

Look unlike the rest of the ppl in here i have exp with just about every weapon in the game not to mention the 50000+ kills not to mention the 2000+ dm wins,the fact is different weapons are needed in different situations period.If you wanted to get technical the lazer cannon is probably the best weapon

20 feet is ridiculously short range. that's a little more than 2 times the height of a person.

 

You must know some seriously tall people if 20 feet is only a little more than twice the height of a person!

I'm going to vote for the Heavy Pistol or .50 Pistol. Most people don't realize the range and power of these guns. It is uncanny how accurate they are and with head shots at far ranges you can lay any opponent flat with 2-3 shots. That and you look bad ass while doing it. I really hope Rockstar brings back the Magnum revolver. Now there was a gun!

Pistols: AP Pistol obviously lol.

SMG: Don't really use these, but Micro-SMG is good for drive-bys.

MG: Combat MG.

Assasult Rifle: I usually use Carbine Rifle, Advanced Rifle and Special Carbine. The one I use the most is the Special Carbine.

Sniper Rifle: Heavy Sniper and Marksman Rifle.

Melee: Knife.

Shotgun: Assault Shotgun for close range and Heavy Shotgun for more range but Assault Shotgun all the way really lol.

Heavy: Depends for the situation, but I mainly use RPG and the Homing Launcher.

Throwables: Sticky Bombs.
