i think it would be dope if we could talk in public like enter two ppl can stand nxt to eachother and start a convo and more ppl can jump in the convo... of course we would be able to kick out the griefers... and the convo would be a safe zone.. say we all on top of a car garage havn a group convo in free roam

Clearly there should be local voice chat that does not go throughout the whole server. That would be realistic. The voice volume would fade away as you get 10 or 20 meters away. Second Life works like this.

Like direct communication in dayZ when only people close to you can hear you?

Hardcore lobbies with only local blips should have this.

If there ever is such a thing as hardcore and friendly fire off lobbies.

I am no expert when it comes to 'street lingo', but I believe it would also be fly, poppin' fresh and whack, dawg. One might even go so far as to suggest it be 'illin'.

Yeah I think rockstar should waste time on something that isn't broken... Just plug in your mic and talk. If you want to limit the conversation use a party or mute. Pretty simple

After we get heists and jet pack wearing unicorns we can ride under water then they can look into this....

People are drawing comparisons to all kinds of other games with proximity based voice chat, but even Red Dead Redemption had voice chat that was proximity based.

Yes, it would be quite nice, especially since we're about to be in 30 player lobbies.

I think I read somewhere that jetpack wearing unicorns that you ride underwater will be here before heists. They said they were coming "soon"...

Proximity voice chat was implemented in RDR. Probably wasnt implemented again because of the unpopularity. You had to be in a posse in order to talk to someone that wasnt in your proximity. I found it stupid

I can just imagine what proximity voice-chat would be like in this game.

You approach someone on the map, and you begin to hear noise in your headset.

As you get closer, you can faintly make out "N*gger n*gger n*gger n*gger n*gger n*gger". You get even closer to the player, and it gets louder. "N*gger n*gger n*gger n*gger n*gger ".

You say to yourself "I'm getting away from this guy" and as you drive away into the sunset, you hear "N*gger n*gger n*gger n*gger n*gger........"
Silence.

That's pretty much GTA Online chat in a nutshell.

Now I get it. You mean, we would be able to invite other players through our phones or the interaction menu in the same manner that we invite other players to our apartments, right?

Word, homie.

Wait, that's two words.

I actually think that's a good idea. With 30 people lobbies coming up (as others have pointed out), a proximity based chat like that in the ARMA series and Red Dead Redemption would be amazing. Still won't stop me from using Steam's voice chat or Skype with my friends, but for the odd time I'm by myself online, it'd be great.

I agree, it would be nice if you could select it so you don't have to listen to some players arguing over something dumb if your all the way out in Paleto bay but if someone is in your vicinity you could still hear them. Communication needs to be improved for the game, having all the people running around silently means the only communication is to shoot whoever comes close to you. It would be nice if you could have some system to communicate your intentions without having to annoy the whole lobby, especially if there are 30 people in a lobby.

IMO they should ban mics on consoles. People socializing in video games is just plain freakin annoying. I hate the fact auto-mute is disabled when you start a mission. Always causes me to drive my cars over them until they are dead and a few voice reports to send them on their way to badsport. Use mic=badsport IMO.

I don't understand why party chat or toggling mute for certain players can't give you the desired result. I certainly don't want to follow my friends around just so we can talk.
