  1. 1. Which GTA Version(s) Should I Buy?

    • Get it on next-gen console now, and get it again on PC in 6 to 12 months
      60
    • Get it on PC in January, and don't bother with console at all

Just get it for PS4. Unless you really like mods (which i consider over-rated)

Not only verrated but there is a high chance they won't be supported online.

The PC versions advantages over consoles seem to be dwindling more and more are we nearer release.

Could be a bigger let down than Destiny

Look, I love GTA more than any other game franchise, but I would never buy the same game multiple times. All you're doing is paying the company twice as much for the same game. Decide which one you want and buy it when it's released. Human's have a bad condition that tends to have them buy more than they actually need. Those same humans will be complaining about how they never have money and the economy sucks... odd, isn't it?

...get the ps4/xb1 version and don't bother with PC.

Check my sig and member title. Unless mods are completely impossible even in single player, you can bet I'll be making mods for the PC version of V.

As far as the possibility of modding being restricted or impossible, thus far it's only an unsubstantiated rumour.

It's certainly got substance, the only debunk so far has been a fake e-mail from someone on here to the anti piracy platform.

Anyway console graphics are making large jumps, I don't really need anything more than 1080p and 60fps. The ps5 I hope will have 4k graphics, and hopefully by that time 4k tvs will be affordable, because atm they are far too expensive

Could someone please advise me as Im a bit confused.

I was about to start a new thread but did a search and found this one. Im in a similar boat to the OP. Ive got loads more friends on PS4s than PCs. I game on a PC also although I stress im not a "fan boi" of any platform. To me they are all computer gaming systems, just enjoy them.

I currently play GTA5 on the PS3. Its likely I will want to get the PS4 AND PC version.

Am I right in saying that I can only make a SINGLE transfer from PS3 to console or PC?

I cant transfer my save game to the PS4 and then later on transfer again to PC right? Just want to be clear on this.

Thanks guys :)

I usually refrain from discussing rumours, but I guess I'm in it now.

It's unsubstantiated. While I wouldn't be surprised if mods are to be restricted in Online, and there is evidence of some involvement with Denuvo, nothing has been proven or otherwise verified. In fact, the co-founder of Denuvo has stated that GTA V will not make use of any of his company's DRM.

You're free to believe what you believe. However personal beliefs, speculation, and a screenshot of a logo on a third party's website do not equal fact.

Yes, that is my understanding also. If we could transfer from PS4/Xbone to PC, I wouldn't be as indecisive as to which new version(s) to get. It does seem to be implied that we cannot make a second transfer.

From R* Newswire:

Can you only make the GTA Online character progress transfer once?

If I transfer my GTA Online character to the new systems, will I still be able to play with him/her on my PS3 or Xbox 360?

Yes, you will only be able to transfer your character once. After transferring your character to PS4, Xbox One or PC, you can continue playing with him/her on your PS3 or Xbox 360 but the progress you make while playing is not shared to the character you transferred to your new version.

From R* Social Club:

Character Transfer

You will need a Rockstar Games Social Club account linked to the console accounts used when previously playing GTA Online.

When entering GTA Online, you will be given the option to transfer your previous GTA Online character and progression data. Once you have chosen to transfer your previous character and progression data, the transferable in-game money, RP and Rank of all previous characters will be displayed. These are the characters that will be transferred to the PlayStation®4 or Xbox One. Once the transfer has completed, you will be prompted to choose a character and enter GTA Online.

You will still be able to play your existing characters on PlayStation®3 and/or Xbox 360, however any progress made with versions of the characters on those systems after a transfer will remain on those systems only. Any existing PlayStation®4 or Xbox One GTA Online character and progression data will be replaced by the previous character and progression data during the transfer, except for any existing in-game money, which will be combined with your transferred balance.

All earned in-game money will transfer. Purchased in-game money that has not yet been spent will only transfer within a console family (e.g. PlayStation®3 to PlayStation®4).

From R* Support:

Question: If I buy Grand Theft Auto V for PlayStation®4, Xbox One or PC, will I be able to transfer my Grand Theft Auto Online character and progression from my Xbox 360 or PlayStation®3 account?

Answer: Yes, you will be able to transfer your GTA Online characters and progression from PlayStation®3 or Xbox 360 to your choice of PlayStation®4, Xbox One or PC versions. For example, you could transfer your Grand Theft Auto Online characters and progression from Xbox 360 to PlayStation®4, Xbox One, or PC, or from PlayStation®3 to PlayStation®4, Xbox One, or PC. More information will be made available at a later date. If you would like to receive an automatic email notification as soon as there are more details about Grand Theft Auto Online save transfers, please log into the Support Site and click Subscribe at the top of this page.

Throwing money at something out of impatience is useless.

If you have friends on PS4 you'd like to play with, go ahead and triple dip. Otherwise, wait for the PC version if you feel your PC is up to it. The Denuvo DRM rumors have been debunked by the head of the company. Rockstar's listing on their site was due to the fact that they worked together on SecuROM for the PC version IV many years ago. Denuvo has nothing to do with GTA V.

It's three months. You've got November, a month full of new releases. Then December, the month of Christmas. And then you just have the first couple of weeks of January. Boom. You're there.

Wait it out. Your wallet will thank you in the long run.

Thanks lonestranger

Although this makes it a very tough decision :(

I will have to create a whole new character for PS4 as Ive decided to get the PC version first when it comes to nextgen GTA5. I will carry PS3---->PC

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't spoil my experience a second time. It's bad enough that we had to buy it on last gen instead of experiencing it first on our preferred platform.

Being a PC gamer, I missed many things on PS3 like playing Online with friends, mouse and keyboard, the ability to capture screenshots and videos and many other things.

On the other hand, my friends that like GTA only play on PC, so I couldn't enjoy the game with them since they don't have a console.

You said you have more friends on console. Do you mean on console overall or just PS4 vs PC?

If you have considerably more friends on PS4 than on PC, sure, buy it and play it with your friends if that's important for you.

If mods are more important to you than playing Online, skip the PS4 version.

All the pros you posted besides playing it early and with a wireless controller are related to Online.

If Online it's not that important to you as the mods, single player replay value and saving money, wait for the PC version.

Didn't you buy it on last gen if I'm not mistaken? Or did you come to that conclusion because you bought it? :p

That's exactly why, yep.

I should have emphasized I speak from experience. Didn't want to come off as judgmental or something. Sorry.

The difference between me buying the game on last gen and the OP buying it on new gen is that he needs to wait even less for the PC version. I gave in and bought my last gen copy back in November 2013. Literally a year later, I still don't have the game on my platform of choice! So me buying it back then accomplished nothing (the aliasing on the 360 version did give me a short-term headache though ).

The only reason I'd not get it on PC is if you plan on playing online a lot. Sure it'll look great but it's PC. With all the mods and hackers and cheaters it'll be a cluster f*ck of spawned in tanks and ufos and ramps and sh*t.

The double dip was worth it, if you bought it last year on the old gen consoles. Because you got the most out of your money. I probably invested something on the order of 250-300 hours in GTA V altogether over the last year. That was easily worth it.

But to buy the next gen version, and only have it for like 2 months before the PC version is available? No, sorry that's retarded. Even if I was filthy rich and didn't feel a thing from buying this game 3 times, I STILL wouldn't do it out of principle.

I don't blame you for buying it, I bought it on launch and bought a (used) PS3 just for it.

I didn't want to get story spoilers, but I still managed to somehow get spoilers of the ending (and then some) by reading some random posts even finishing the story in the first week after the launch.

At least we are getting some exclusive things, but I still think the ability to transfer the Online progression is not fair to those who only play it on PC. I didn't play Online much and I'll still have like 1.5 million dollars from the start.

Imagine how much fun it will be playing with those who already have tanks and jets on the first day while some will have just a Blista and a handgun.
