The Killa
As today is Easter, why not take a minute and look back and reminisce about your favorite games, old or new, and what surprises you've discovered? They're spread all over games and many of them go by our heads unnoticed, which is a shame considering it's a great way for developers to be subtle yet humorous with their creations. There are some well documented ones in the GTA series, of course. One of the more memorable ones for me was the "You weren't supposed to be able to get here you know" sign in GTAIII. The literal Easter egg in Vice City, and I know there was quite a few on the San Fierro bridge (?) in San Andreas. Another memorable one for me (which I discovered on accident) was MGS1 where you could see Meryl doing situps in her cell. Peer again a few more times and she would, eventually, be doing them with no pants on. At the time, since I was so young I was still trying to decide in my head weather or not it was gross or gave me a weird feeling in my pants which I've never experienced before. Who knows. Of course, not all easter eggs are physical. I can remember quite a few movie quotes / references in dialogue as well. Any of you found any memorable Easter eggs that just stays in your mind, or that you discovered and gives you a good smile everytime you remember or see it? CryptReaperDorian
The first game with Easter eggs was Adventure I believe. Also, not only that, but Adventure is pretty much the grandfather of sandbox gaming. I believe the Easter egg in that game was the names of some of the lead developers (or something similar). Rockworm
The arcade cabinet in DK64 which was a perfect recreation of the original Donkey Kong game. Good times! I wouldn't call that an easter egg as its right there in plain sight and you even had to play it to get an item. I suppose if there was an easter egg the token you get for playing through entirely *shrug

Holy crap!!!!!! If I recall correctly it was just the initials of the developer. 1 developer per game for Atari back then. Edit: I was wrong - it has his whole name. Added bonus: Just because I love that period of games. The box and promo art usually misled you a bit as to what the game might look like. Here is the box for Adventure. The shot above with the easter egg is actual game play Edited April 25, 2011 by tripmills My crappy games at MyCrappyGames.com Free copy of Save The Puppies and Kittens
AceRay
back in the 80s, covers promised completely different things rather then the dots you get in game. Buy a game with a picture of a highly detailed soldier? get a bunch of dots.

CryptReaperDorian
@tripmills: It's kind of hard to play Atari games these days, but Adventure was one of my favorites. Action-adventure and sandbox gaming started off quite decently with that game. @ajbns87: Speaking about Scarface, it's Al Pacino's birthday today! There was many Scarface Easter eggs in GTA VC along with some in GTA III (there's two I can think of). Oh, and Ken Rosenberg is also a nod to another movie starring Al Pacino (which is also a very good movie).
IceWolf729
The secret Rat Club in Hitman: Blood Money Also, there were some more in that mission with those rednecks, like Agent 47 dancing, or the dancing Marines in the XXV Amendment mission: Edited April 26, 2011 by IceWolf729
