Yes, and it really makes this a better forum. At the top of the page where your name is, on the right, click it to get the menu and go to "Manage ignore prefs". Just add a name and it's done. Their posts are hidden and it says "This post is hidden because you have chosen to ignore posts by Zwenkwiel. View it anyway?" (in this case). If you click "view it anyway" then you get to see it. You do see their posts when they're quoted by people, which really makes me chuckle when you get someone claiming to be clever, and when you tell them you're adding them to your ignore list they actually respond! If someone carries on the quote train you get to see how dumb they are

I agree with what Zwenkwiel is saying about the free-to-play strategy, but hook, line and sinker on that earlier bait. I can't come to the defense of someone that believes cash cards have something to do with tanks running over trees.

I said cash cards influence the game, some1 took that as meaning that cash card influence everything in the game. (even tanks and trees)

Please post a link to where Rockstar said this was F2P. Be specific.

 

This game is not in any way F2P. We all had to pay to get the game, which is explicitly not a Free to Play model being not Free in any way.

Having microtransactions does not mean a game is using a f2p model. You are guilty of a false analogy here. The Crew and Forza have microtransactions and they are no more F2P than GTA.

 

It's extremely beneficial for a company to have an optional revenue stream in an online game because an online game costs them ongoing money for development. If a game has a revenue stream the company is far, far more likely to keep patching and supporting the game, and it gives them incentive to keep developing and expanding it. This game in the last year has seen far more patches and support that the online portion of GTA IV ever did and this support shows no signs of slowing down. That's because of cash cards.

 

As far as balance in microtransactions Rockstar has succeeded spectacularly. There are no items that you have to buy with cash cards, there are no cash card exclusive goods that give a tangible advantage. Cash can be reasonably earned in the game by anyone willing to do it assuming that person isn't horribly inept. The only people I have seen that are angry at cash cards are the people that WANT THINGS NOW without working for it, the people that feel they are entitled to things.

 

I have earned 16.9 million doing jobs and another 15.5 million selling cars. I sell a car every 48 minutes I play. I own a Tornado and drive into gang territory and garage gang Tornadoes to sell for nearly 13k each along with the good paying High Priority vehicles for Simeon which sell for up to 16k. I have exported just under 200 cars just for HPV exports alone. It adds up fast. I do jobs with friends. It's fun, it's not a grind. Without cheating or wasting time doing a boring grind I have millions laying around.

Yes, many of us were able to play the game without purchasing in-game cash, but at what cost? Most of us either; A. glitched money; B. grinded Rooftop Rumble; or C. had no job or personal responsibilities. Both A and B were a detriment to the game, and C, well, that was mostly a detriment to the player's social life, but I digress. The point I'm trying to make is that the original model was suppose to incentivize players to purchase in-game cash.

 

It doesn't really matter whether it was easy or not for you to earn cash. GTA Online is an in de facto F2P model, assuming it's an independent game from Story Mode.

 

Unfortunately, there is no substitute for real-world testing in multiplayer games, and GTA Online fell victim to glitching and game-mode abuse. Today, the F2P model for GTA Online is on life-support. Again, it was a failure.

There were some obvious problems with creating incentives to purchase in-game cash, and somewhere along the line, the strategy backfired. Instead of purchasing cash cards, people were exploiting the game, ie. glitching money, grinding RR 24/7. It was either they increase payouts, or further risk having the game destroyed.

 

Making a free-to-play model that works has to be completely separate from Story Mode GTA V. Like you said, we all payed $60 for it, so why should we have to pay for in-game cash online? That's a very delicate balance, and difficult to manage. Let's just say this is one area where Rockstar failed miserably.

 

 

But we DON'T have to pay for in game cash...that's the point. It's not Rockstar's fault that people are entitled children who have no patience to "earn" anything. Do you really think people wouldn't do glitches even if money was easier to be made (even with it being really simple now)? Cheating will ALWAYS be quicker, so people will always find an excuse to do it.

 

People had better look at this model for a game and realize it's coming to every single one of the games they know and love, and odds are it'll get worse before it gets better. This is the new norm. If you think Rockstar's totally optional cash cards are bad, wait until some of these newer games start coming out...it's only a matter of time before they sell items for real cash only.

-Maximize profits.

-Satisfy the crowds on current-gen and PC that haven't experienced GTA V.

-Realize the game's full potential.

My thoughts.

 

The original release in PS3/360 was designed in a PC. In which I'm positive it was designed in a very high resolution. Once completed this hi resolution world had to be toned down for the current gen consoles.

 

Now they R* knowing the next gen was on its way would utilize this high resolution version they originally designed. Heck it too was probably toned down for the next gen consoles. Leaving yet a higher resolution world still to be seen.

 

So in comes PC. This may finally see the raw, nah it won't be rah cause you can bet that each section of this world is at a ridiculous size. So again we will get yet another toned down version. Albeit the best yet.

 

 

So surely each version is a "port" of the original design that sits on R*'s design teams PC's

 

None the less. I'm grateful to have a PS4 version. Finally I'll get some good mileage out this console.

 

 

I PC will support triple monitors. I'll be grabbing that and using it on my racing rig where 3x 24" monitors reside.

There shouldn't even be a debate though. Sure, the CEO of Take Two called it free-to-play, but we still have to buy the game to play it, not to mention having active memberships (XBL and PS+ on the PS4).

I'm going to play devil's advocate here. How do you value a game? For example, Titanfall is a multiplayer-only game. Is that worth a value of $60? COD is like three games in one (Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies). Is that game a value of $60? Then there's GTA V, a game with a massively huge Story Mode and an Online game? I've read posts in here that said $60 was a bargain for a years-worth of entertainment. That's like 6 cents a day. Did we pay for GTA V's Story Mode only, or was GTA Online just an augmented feature? It's a very grey area.

 

I'm just trying to put this in perspective from an executive's point of view. With that said, I can see how Take Two views GTA Online as "free", and therefore, I share his opinion.
