Would you consider GTA: Online a Freemium title?

So I saw this episode of South Park and it got me thinking how the game they play on the show is a lot like GTA online.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS4VRbsjZrQ

Anyone feel like GTA:Online should be regarded as a freemium title? I feel like it should be based on this video.

No gta online is not free2play or freemium as you need GTA V to play it. It is simply the multiplayer mode of GTA V. When rockstar said it would constantly be expanding i think they meant with GTA 6 or whatever the MP will be called GTA Online. It is also possible that for future gta games mp your characters will be playable on GTa 6 ect

say for instance GTA 6 takes place in Vice city. GTA Online would expand to vice citu and most likely your characters would be retrieved from the cloud servers for that game

I loved that episode.

Not really. It IS possible to have a satisfying experience in GTAO without buying Kesh Kurdz. I'm glad they aren't pulling off sh*t like having content that is only accessible by paying real money, for example (except the CE vehicles I'd guess, but that was just a small bonus that will be available for everyone on new gen now).

Yea fun ep. Randy was typically awesome. Totally freemium. Wish they had mentioned f2p wasn't strictly mobile gaming but they p much nailed it. Would've like some #gamergate stuff too. But I did think of this place when they did the "it's free - it's not free" bit. Good stuff.

I've got $17m without cash cards. You can do the same as long as you don't suck at the game.

There's nothing in this game that you need to spend real money to get, so the answer is NO.

Lol wrong! ^

You need to spend real money to get GTA money.

Id say southpark nailed it. GTA is one step above freemium

it's still fun though....as long as I have the most expensive apartment and the best cars, guns and aircraft. : -D

Grand Theft Auto Online is free to play. Grand Theft Auto Online requires Grand Theft Auto V to play, which still costs upwards of $45 even used. Grand Theft Auto is not a freemium game. You paid for it.

GTA V is the main game, Online is the multiplayer. You bought the game, therefore not F2P.

Saying GTAO is F2P is the same as saying CoD, Halo, and Killzone MP portions are F2P.

It plays like one that is for sure.

If it was patch 1.13 id laugh it off and disagree,

But the game is really hostile towards newcomers,

They would never have a chance unless they buy cash cards.

Sure money could be made,

But its by farming,

And even then you need a tank.

You would have to do hack and dash 2 50 times,

15 minutes each on hard just to get a million.

Or play deathmatch yeah,

Where you only get 11k and that is if you win.

or race yeah,

Where everyone has supercars,

While you cant even afford to steal a car.

I think most who forget these things are paid off by rockstar.

Did yall know it costs 100$ just to private call someone in the lobby?

No, you don't have to spend real money to get GTA money. To get GTA money you could:

-Kill someone and take their money

-Steal and sell a car

-Do a mission

-Do a race

-Do a survival

etc, etc, etc...

So basically, doing almost ANYTHING in the game gets you GTA cash. You're wrong.

1 - Yes, it's rough on new players, but we were ALL new players once. Most of us just played the game and earned our cars and ranks (and had a damn good time doing so). Only a very small percentage of a percentage of those players ever bought a cash card, and most of those that did did so because they were impatient and didn't want to wait for things, not because they had to.

2 - Farming is absolutely not necessary and never was. All you have to do is play the game. I made my money doing strings of missions and survivals with groups, not farming.

3 - You don't "need" a tank for anything in this game, much less to make any money.

4 - You were probably trying to be clever here, but based on the rest of this, I'm not so sure.

5 - Who the f*ck private calls people in this game?

What the hell are you yapping on about?

I can make 350.000 a night by just having fun standing on my head, thats easy, thats just with me fancying a few mission through out the night, and im far from a skilled gta player..

The more expensive things in game are expensive for a reason, you know little goals you work towards..

I find it quite ironic you posting in this thread in this way because its for people like you who share your insatiable need and demand for instant success and gratification that the above system was created..

Funny dont you think?

#edit

And I didnt know about the payment on in lobby phone calls, tbh I think thats pretty cool.. just go sell a baller, thats a lot of phone calls

At GTA v stands now it really should be in the free download class of game which make their money by other means (advertising or cash cards). The trouble is they slowly and sneakily got to that point and it wasn't like that on original release.

Okay, I guess you use it then...that's 2 people.

(Not snapping on you, I've just never heard of people actually using this feature...funny coincidence that you ended up posting it right after I questioned it)

Sooo.... GTA0 is really pay-me-um :)

Without buying $20 cash cards, the alternative is to grind and farm like hell, to buy the equivalent of a $20 virtual car. It reminds me of those really tedious grinding games, where people in poor countries farm up characters collecting sticks and rocks and spells, to sell online for real money.

Somebody should prove me wrong,

Start from scratch,

No second player bs,

play for a week and tell us how much money they made since.

I would but I sold my ps3 to my brother.

Its the only way to quell the discord from both sides,

The rocksuckers and the free roamers.
